In a connected vehicle environment based on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology, images from front and ego vehicles are fused to augment a driver’s or autonomous system’s visual field, which is helpful in avoiding road accidents by eliminating the blind point (the objects occluded by vehicles), especially tailgating in urban areas. Realizing multi-view image fusion is a tough problem without knowing the relative location of two sensors and the fusing object is occluded in some views. Therefore, we propose an image geometric projection model and a new fusion method between neighbor vehicles in a cooperative way. Based on a 3D inter-vehicle projection model, selected feature matching points are adopted to estimate the geometric transformation parameters. By adding deep information, our method also designs a new deep-affine transformation to realize fusing of inter-vehicle images. Experimental results on KIITI (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Toyota Technological Institute) datasets are shown to validate our algorithm. Compared with previous work, our method improves the IoU index by 2~3 times. This algorithm can effectively enhance the visual perception ability of intelligent vehicles, and it will help to promote the further development and improvement of computer vision technology in the field of cooperative perception.

We present a super perception system of intelligent vehicles for perceiving occluded street objects by collecting images from neighbor front vehicles V2V (vehicle to vehicle) video streams based on 3D projection model. This super power can avoid some serious accidents of driver-assistant systems or automatic driving systems which can only detect visible objects. Our street perception system can “see through” the front vehicles to realize detecting of the occluded street objects only by analyzing the pair images received from front and host (back) vehicles. Upon the 3D projection model based on the pair images, the system uses affine transformation to achieve augmented reality method to increase the visibility perspective of driver system. Experimental results on different datasets are shown to validate our approach. Evaluation method was first introduced into our perception system.

AbstractThis study develops a projection model of future population distribution on the basis of Japan’s current depopulation trend and applies this model to scenario analyses that assume population compactification and dispersion. The model enables a description of population migration at two levels. First, municipal populations are projected using the cohort-component method, and second, the spatial distribution of populations within municipalities is projected at a 500 m grid resolution with the use of the gravity model. Based on the Japanese depopulation context and the country’s National Spatial Strategy, the compact scenario predicts the formation of medium-scale regional urban areas (population centers located across Japan) and the concentration of people on high-density population areas within municipalities. Meanwhile, the dispersed scenario predicts the formation of more but smaller regional urban areas and the dispersion of the population to low-density areas. The simulated population distribution for 2050 reveals spatial change in population density and age structure, as well as an abundance of areas that were inhabited in 2015 but will be zero population areas by 2050. Overlay analysis of future land use maps and the simulated population distribution maps can contribute toward identifying areas where natural capital such as farmland and forest plantation should be managed but where there will be significant population loss by 2050.

Abstract. The atmospheric oxidation of aromatic compounds is an important source of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) in urban areas. The oxidation of aromatics depends strongly on the levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx). However, details of the mechanisms by which oxidation occurs have only recently been elucidated. Xu et al. (2015) developed an updated version of the gas-phase Caltech Atmospheric Chemistry Mechanism (CACM) designed to simulate toluene and m-xylene oxidation in chamber experiments over a range of NOx conditions. The output from such a mechanism can be used in thermodynamic predictions of gas–particle partitioning leading to SOA. The current work reports the development of a model for SOA formation that combines the gas-phase mechanism of Xu et al. (2015) with an updated lumped SOA-partitioning scheme (Model to Predict the Multi-phase Partitioning of Organics, MPMPO) that allows partitioning to multiple aerosol phases and that is designed for use in larger-scale three-dimensional models. The resulting model is termed aroCACM/MPMPO 1.0. The model is integrated into the University of California, Irvine – California Institute of Technology (UCI-CIT) Airshed Model, which simulates the South Coast Air Basin (SoCAB) of California. Simulations using 2012 emissions indicate that “low-NOx” pathways to SOA formation from aromatic oxidation play an important role, even in regions that typically exhibit high-NOx concentrations.

Arising technologies in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication allow vehicles to obtain information about the motion of distant vehicles. Such information can be presented to the driver or incorporated in advanced autonomous cruise control (ACC) systems. In this paper, we investigate the effects of multi-vehicle communication on the dynamics of connected vehicle platoons and propose a motif-based approach that allows systematical analysis and design of such systems. We investigate the dynamics of simple motifs in the presence of communication delays, and show that long-distance communication can stabilize the uniform flow when the flow cannot be stabilized by nearest neighbor interactions. The results can be used for designing driver assist systems and communication-based cruise control systems.

Improving the matching reliability of low-altitude images is one of the most challenging issues in recent years, particularly for images with large viewpoint variation. In this study, an approach for low-altitude remote sensing image matching that is robust to the geometric transformation caused by viewpoint change is proposed. First, multiresolution local regions are extracted from the images and each local region is normalized to a circular area based on a transformation. Second, interest points are detected and clustered into local regions. The feature area of each interest point is determined under the constraint of the local region which the point belongs to. Then, a descriptor is computed for each interest point by using the classical scale invariant feature transform (SIFT). Finally, a feature matching strategy is proposed on the basis of feature similarity confidence to obtain reliable matches. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides significant improvements in the number of correct matches compared with other traditional methods.

Leukemia is one of the most common cancers. We conducted this study to comprehensively analyze the temporal trends of leukemia mortality during 2003–2017 and project the trends until 2030. We extracted national-level data on annual leukemia mortality from China Health Statistics Yearbooks (2003–2017). We applied the Joinpoint regression model to assess leukemia mortality trends in urban and rural China by sex during 2003–2017. We also produced sex-specific leukemia mortality using the adjusted Global Burden Disease (GBD) 2016 projection model. In urban areas, age-standardized leukemia mortality decreased significantly among females during 2003–2017 (APC = −0.9%; 95% CI: −1.7, −0.1%). In rural areas, significant decreases of age-standardized leukemia mortality were both found among males (APC = −1.7%; 95% CI: −2.9, −0.5%) and females (APC = −1.6%; 95% CI: −2.6, −0.7%) from 2008 to 2017. Rural-urban and sex disparities of leukemia mortality will continue to exist until the year 2030. According to projection, the leukemia mortality rates of males and rural populations are higher than that of females and urban populations. In 2030, leukemia mortality is projected to decrease to 3.03/100,000 and 3.33/100,000 among the males in urban and rural areas, respectively. In females, leukemia mortality will decrease to 1.87/100,000 and 2.26/100,000 among urban and rural areas, respectively. Our study suggests that more precautionary measures to reduce leukemia mortality are need, and more attention should be paid to rural residents and males in primary prevention of leukemia in China.

Vehicular ad-hoc network contains of very intelligent vehicles on the pathways and give communication service to the dives in the network or can connect with the roadside devices. In the near future it will provide many service and fast delivery of information with minimal delay. It is the modern technology which is mixing the wireless networking to vehicles. The main goal of the VANET system is to provide uninterrupted connectivity to the vehicular users on road, smart vehicle to vehicle interaction without any interruptions is known as intelligent transportation system (ITS). In this paper, we present a review on the VANET, its trust issues, how routing is done in VANET. Different routing and the type of trust models with which routing takes place are discussed. Comparison of parameter such as throughput, bit-error rate and delay are done on the basis of, with optimization and without optimization according to number of rounds.
