High Performance Computing Clusters (HPCCs) are common platforms for solving both up-to-date challenges and high-dimensional problems faced by IT service providers. Nonetheless, the use of HPCCs carries a substantial and growing economic and environmental impact, owing to the large amount of energy they need to operate. In this paper, a two-stage holistic optimisation mechanism is proposed to manage HPCCs in an eco-efficiently manner. The first stage logically optimises the resources of the HPCC through reactive and proactive strategies, while the second stage optimises hardware allocation by leveraging a genetic fuzzy system tailored to the underlying equipment. The model finds optimal trade-offs among quality of service, direct/indirect operating costs, and environmental impact, through multiobjective evolutionary algorithms meeting the preferences of the administrator. Experimentation was done using both actual workloads from the Scientific Modelling Cluster of the University of Oviedo and synthetically-generated workloads, showing statistical evidence supporting the adoption of the new mechanism.

The market for shared mobility services is growing very quickly. New types of vehicles have been introduced, and the offer of available services and functionalities has expanded, the purpose of which is to improve the quality of service. Despite all the improvements, it is still not possible to speak of achieving full availability of systems that meet the needs of users. This is due to the reluctant involvement of operators of shared mobility systems in joining Mobility as a Service platforms based on the idea of open innovation. The aim of the article is to analyze the factors influencing the limitations in the development of open innovations in the form of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) services. The authors focus on identifying the challenges and concerns faced by shared mobility service providers. The article supports the development of the concept of open innovation in shared mobility services. It also contains practical recommendations for the development of MaaS systems. The results of the developed research can be used by operators of shared mobility services, transport authorities, or IT service providers providing MaaS services to strengthen cooperation and integration using the language of mutual benefit.

Forest fires are a major risk factor with strong impact at eco-environmental and socio- economical levels, reasons why their study and modeling are very important. However, the models frequently have a certain level of uncertainty in some input parameters given that they must be approximated or estimated, as a consequence of diverse difficulties to accurately measure the conditions of the phenomenon in real time. This has resulted in the development of several methods for the uncertainty reduction, whose trade-off between accuracy and complexity can vary significantly. The system ESS (Evolutionary- Statistical System) is a method whose aim is to reduce the uncertainty, by combining Statistical Analysis, High Performance Computing (HPC) and Parallel Evolutionary Al- gorithms (PEAs). The PEAs use several parameters that require adjustment and that determine the quality of their use. The calibration of the parameters is a crucial task for reaching a good performance and to improve the system output. This paper presents an empirical study of the parameters tuning to evaluate the effectiveness of different configurations and the impact of their use in the Forest Fires prediction.

Assessing students’ satisfaction of service quality is vital to educational service providers. This qualitative study hence employed the SERVQUAL Theory to explore the perspectives of 30 distance learning students on the quality of services provided at the University of Ghana Learning Centres. The participants were purposively selected and engaged in in-depth qualitative interviews through a semi-structured interview guide. Our findings revealed varied satisfaction levels with the five dimensions of quality of service: reliability, assurance, responsiveness, tangibility, and empathy. The findings revealed that students’ perceptions of the tangibility and empathy dimensions were negative. We thus advocate leveraging the three dimensions perceived to be satisfying among students while ensuring improvements in the two other dimensions that elicited no satisfaction. Consequently, we offer recommendations framed by UNESCO that may be of interest to providers and managers of distance education programmes in similar learning centres.

Memory system performance is an important factor in determining overall system performance. The design of key components of the memory system, such as the memory controller, becomes more important as memory performance becomes a limiting factor in high performance computing. This work focuses on the design of a unit which sends control signals to Double Data Rate Synchronous Dram (DDR SDRAM). The design is based on established concepts such as access reordering. A novel, adaptive page policy based on a machine learning algorithm has been developed in this work and evaluated with traditional page policies. the work illustrates some of the design trade-offs in a memory controller and the performance of the designs when using real application address traces.The results show that access reordering improves the performance of DDR SDRAM compared to in-order scheduling (up to 50% improvement) and that scheduling multiple requests can result in latency hiding. The dynamic page policy approximates the best static page policy in most cases.

Recently, cloud service providers have been gradually changing from virtual machine-based cloud infrastructures to container-based cloud-native infrastructures that consider performance and workload-management issues. Several data network performance issues for virtual instances have arisen, and various networking solutions have been newly developed or utilized. In this paper, we propose a solution suitable for a high-performance computing (HPC) cloud through a performance comparison analysis of container-based networking solutions. We constructed a supercomputer-based test-bed cluster to evaluate the serviceability by executing HPC jobs.

Nowadays, more and more organizations are realizing of importance of their data, because it can be considered as an important asset in present nearly all business organizational processes. Information Technology Division (ITD) is a department in the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) that consolidates efforts in providing IT services to the university. The university data management started with decentralized units, where each center or division has its own hardware and database system. Later it improved to become became centralized, and ITD is now trying to one policy across the whole university. This will optimize the high performance of data management in the university. A visit has been done to ITD building and a presentation has been conducted discussing many issues concerning data management quality maturity in IT division at IIUM. We got some notices like server’s room location, power supply and backup and existence of data redundant. These issues are discussed in details in the next sections of this paper and some recommendations are suggested to improve data quality in the university. The quality of the data is very important in decision making, especially for a university that is trying to improve its strategy towards a research university and rise its rank among the World University Ranking.
