Biorefineries are attracting attention as an alternative to the petroleum industry to reduce carbon emissions and achieve sustainable development. In particular, because forests play an important role in potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero, alternatives to cellulose produced by plants are required. Bacterial cellulose (BC) can prevent deforestation and has a high potential for use as a biomaterial in various industries such as food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. This study aimed to improve BC production from lignocellulose, a sustainable feedstock, and to optimize the culture conditions for Gluconacetobacter xylinus using Miscanthus hydrolysates as a medium. The productivity of BC was improved using statistical optimization of the major culture parameters which were as follows: temperature, 29 °C; initial pH, 5.1; and sodium alginate concentration, 0.09% (w/v). The predicted and actual values of BC production in the optimal conditions were 14.07 g/L and 14.88 g/L, respectively, confirming that our prediction model was statistically significant. Additionally, BC production using Miscanthus hydrolysates was 1.12-fold higher than in the control group (commercial glucose). Our result indicate that lignocellulose can be used in the BC production processes in the near future.

The current experiment was conducted to investigate the application effects of selenium conjugated to insect protein (SCIP) in the production of selenium-enriched eggs. A total of 450 laying hens were randomly assigned to five dietary groups, each group consisting of six replicates. Hens in the control group received a diet without selenium supplementation, whereas hens in the other four groups received diets supplemented with either 1, 2, 5, or 10 mg/kg of selenium from SCIP. The productive performance, egg quality, antioxidant and immune capacity, biochemical indices, intestinal morphology, and oviduct health of laying hens were evaluated. The results showed that the supplementation of organic selenium provided by SCIP in the diets of laying hens enhanced performance and egg quality without any toxicity effect, even at the 10 mg/kg inclusion level. A level of 2 mg/kg of selenium provided by SCIP in diets tentatively improved the serum antioxidant and immune capacity, intestinal development, and oviduct health of laying hens in a conspicuous manner. Hence, the biosafety and positive effects of SCIP as a feed additive supplement in laying hens’ diet have been demonstrated with the enhanced production of safe and selenium-enriched eggs.

Three synthetic growth-promoting substances were administered to cauliflower plants (Brassica oleracea) to determine their effect on flower weight and flower growth. A Youden square experimental design was employed to set up treatment groups for all possible combinations of three substances at four concentration levels and three frequencies of application, and an untreated control group. The substances employed were 3-indolylbutyric acid (IBA), 2,3,5-tri-iodobenzoic acid (TIBA), and β-naphthoxyacetic acid (NOXA); concentrations used were 0.01, 0.2, 4.0, and 80.0 parts per million; and frequencies adopted were 2, 3, and 6 times in a 12-day period. Final flower weights were analyzed by an analysis of variance which showed that the treatments differed significantly (P <.01). Treatments with NOXA and IBA produced flowers weighing significantly more than those of the control group. Flower growth was characterized by a rapid initial rise, which subsequently levelled off in the control group. For treated groups, the initial rise continued throughout the flowering period. The results suggest that the use of certain synthetic growth-promoting substances may be feasible commercially for enhanced production of cauliflower crops.

The paper concentrated on the optimization of the recombinant strain BL21 (DE3)-PE7-Nit. The component of culture medium and the culture conditions were optimized. The optimized medium was: yeast extract 10 g/l, L-glutamate sodium 8 g/l, MgSO4.7H2O 0.7 g/l, Isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactopyranoside 0.3 mmol/L, potassium hydrogen phosphate 0.5 g / L, phosphate Potassium 0.5 g / L and the culture condition was: initial pH 7.0, inoculum 2%. The result showed that the activity of nitrilase prepared with these conditions increased by 130.37 % through optimization.
