A novel Cu(II) complex based on the Schiff base obtained by the condensation of ortho-vanillin with gamma-aminobutyric acid was synthesized. The compounds are physico-chemically characterized by elemental analysis, HR-ESI-MS, FT-IR, and UV-Vis. The complex and the Schiff base ligand are further structurally identified by single crystal X-ray diffraction and 1H and 13C-NMR, respectively. The results suggest that the Schiff base are synthesized in excellent yield under mild reaction conditions in the presence of glacial acetic acid and the crystal structure of its Cu(II) complex reflects an one-dimensional polymeric compound. The molecular structure of the complex consists of a Cu(II) ion bound to two singly deprotonated Schiff base bridging ligands that form a CuN2O4 chelation environment, and a coordination sphere with a disordered octahedral geometry.

Pyrimidine-2-thione (HSpym) reacts with lead(II) thiocyanate and lead(II) bromide in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) to form poly[(μ-isothiocyanato-κ2 N:S)(μ4-pyrimidine-2-thiolato-κ6 N 1,S:S:S:S,N 3)lead(II)], [Pb(C4H3N2S)(NCS)] n or [Pb(Spym)(NCS)] n , (I), and the polymeric one-dimensional (1D) compound catena-poly[[μ4-bromido-di-μ-bromido-(μ-pyrimidine-2-thiolato-κ3 N 1,S:S)(μ-pyrimidine-2-thione-κ3 N 1,S:S)dilead(II)] N,N-dimethylformamide monosolvate], {[Pb2Br3(C4H3N2S)(C4H4N2S)]·C3H7NO} n or {[Pb2Br3(Spym)(HSpym)]·DMF} n , (IIa), respectively. Poly[μ4-bromido-di-μ3-bromido-(μ-pyrimidine-2-thiolato-κ3 N 1,S:S)(μ-pyrimidine-2-thione-κ3 N 1,S:S)dilead(II)], [Pb2Br3(C4H3N2S)(C4H4N2S)] n or [Pb2Br3(Spym)(HSpym)] n , (IIb), could be obtained as a mixture with (IIa) when using a lesser amount of solvent. In the crystal structures of the pseudohalide/halide PbII stable compounds, coordination of anionic and neutral HSpym has been observed. Both Spym− (in the thiolate tautomeric form) and NCS− ligands were responsible for the two-dimensional (2D) arrangement in (I). The Br− ligands establish the 1D polymeric arrangement in (IIa). Eight-coordinated metal centres have been observed in both compounds, when considering the Pb...S and Pb...Br interactions. Both compounds were characterized by FT–IR and diffuse reflectance spectroscopies, as well as by powder X-ray diffraction. Compound (IIa) and its desolvated version (IIb) represent the first structurally characterized PbII compounds containing neutral HSpym and anionic Spym− ligands. After a prolonged time in solution, (IIa) is converted to another compound due to complete deprotonation of HSpym. The structural characterization of (I) and (II) suggests HSpym as a good candidate for the removal of PbII ions from solutions containing thiocyanate or bromide ions.

Nowadays, the development of new approaches which smartly bypass the use of harsh reaction conditions and hazardous chemicals covers a pivotal role. In this research paper the synthesis, characterization and application of novel libraries of triazine bis-quaternary ammonium salts, employed as coupling agents to produce amides, is reported. Full characterization of the novel compounds by 1H and 13C NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, ESI-HRMS and elemental analysis (EA) is provided. Furthermore, a comparison in terms of activity of the preformed triazine compounds versus in situ formulations has been evaluated for the formation of amides in the presence of phenylethylamine and different aliphatic or aromatic acids. A possible correlation between the chemical structure of the triazine and their reactivity for the formation of the triazine bis-quaternary ammonium salts is also reported. Moreover, best performing condensation agents have been further tested for the cross-linking of collagen powder as possible wet white tanning systems, for sustainable and environmentally friendly leather tanning.

The insitu synthesis of Schiff base metal complex using o-phenylenediamine (oPD) and p-anisaldehyde (p-anisal) as starting materials with Nickel nitrate hexahydrate (Zn(NO3)2.6H2O) as a metal precursor in equimolar ratio (1:1:1 M) at room temperature. After the reaction time, the prepared metal complex washed several times with ethanol and boiled water for complete removal of un-reacted starting materials. The following characterization was used to confirm the metal complex by UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis.), Fourier Transforms-Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD) and Cyclic Voltammetry (CV).

The reactivity of a Lu2O3-promoted Rh/Al2O3 catalyst in the CO/H2 reaction is reported. Methane, heavier hydrocarbons, methanol, and ethanol are obtained. In situ DRIFTS has been employed to record the infrared spectra under the actual reaction conditions. The structure of the observed COads DRIFTS bands has been resolved into its components. The production of oxygenates (methanol and ethanol) has been correlated with the results of the deconvolution calculation. Specific sites for the production of methanol and ethanol in the CO/H2 reaction over a Rh,Lu2O3/Al2O3 catalyst are proposed.

Zirconia-graphene composite (ZrO2-G) has been successfully synthesized via decomposition of ZrOCl2•6H2O in a water-isopropanol system with dispersed graphene oxide (GO) utilizing Na2S as a precursor could enable the occurrence of the deposition of Zr4+ and the deoxygenation of GO at the same time. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were used to characterize the samples. It was found that graphene were fully coated with ZrO2, and the ZrO2 existing in tetragonal phase, which resulted in the formation of two-dimensional composite.

ABSTRACTThin films of SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN) with thicknesses of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 μ were grown by Sol-gel technique on silicon, and annealed at 650°C. The SBN films were investigated by Raman scatering for the first time. Raman spectra in some of the samples present bands around 60, 167, 196, 222, 302, 451, 560, 771, 837, and 863 cm−1, which correspond to the SBN formation. The study indicates that the films are inhomogeneous, and only in samples with thicknesses 0.4 μ the SBN material was found in some places. The prominent Raman band around 870 cm−1, which is the A1g mode of the orthorhombic symmetry, is assigned to the symmetric stretching of the NbO6 octahedrals. The frequency of this band is found to shift in different places in the same sample, as well as from sample to sample. The frequency shifts and the width of the Raman bands are discussed in term of ions in non-equilibrium positions. FT-IR spectra reveal a sharp peak at 1260 cm−1, and two broad bands around 995 and 772 cm−1. The bandwidths of the latter two bands are believed to be associated with the presence of a high degree of defects in the films. The experimental results of the SBN films are compared with those obtained in SBT (T=Ta) films. X-ray diffraction and SEM techniques are also used for the structural characterization.

Condensation reaction of naphthalene -2-Sulfonylhydrazide, as starting material with 2,5-dimethoxy benzaldehyde was used to produce (E)-N’-(2,5-dimethoxybenzalidene)naphthalene-2-sulfonohydrazide. The Schiff base product was isolated, purified and then spectrally characterized via UV-Vis, GC/MS, FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR analysis, where strong evidences confirmed the formation of the desired product. Antimicrobial activity of Schiff base product was evaluated in vitro against several types of bacteria such as: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and MRSA by Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) test using tetracycline (TE) as a standard antibiotic. The tests showed a promising bacteriostatic effect of this compound against gram negative bacteria such as P. aeruginosa and K. pneumoniae, such character is valuable for biological applications.

AbstractA new cyclotriphosphazene, 2,2,4,4,6,6-hexakis (o-tolylamono)-1,3,5,2λ5,4λ5,6λ5-triazatriphosphinine (MPAP), was prepared using microwave irradiation and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, 31P NMR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the crystal, in addition to hydrogen bonds, the network is further stabilized by inter- and intramolecular π–π stacking interactions between aromatic rings.

The objective of this paper was to prepare the composite of crefradine/montmorillionite in the method of solution intercalation. The drug load and intercalation rate varied with the drug concentration. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy, and thermal analysis (TG-DSC) were applied to characterize composite mentioned above. Together with drug release tests, results indicate cefradine intercalated into montmorillionite. The release profiles of cefradine/MMT in simulated gastric fluid (pH 1.2) and simulated intestinal fluid (pH 7.4) at 37°Cduring 10h are shown in Fig. 4. The amount of cefradine in the beginning 2h came up to 35% and 50%, and in the following time, cefradine released slowly. The release behaviors met the requirements of sustained release.
