Islamophobia has been a controversial concept ever since it first gained popular currency. One of the main sticking points over the term is whether or not it refers to religion. For both detractors and advocates of the term alike, religion should be or is removed from the meaning of Islamophobia, which is conceived as a form of anti-Muslim racism. Islam, we might say, is thereby removed from Islamophobia. Yet, in doing so, it falls short on two of its key objectives, i.e., identifying the particular forms of discrimination that Muslims face in society and subsequently providing a positive basis from which to address this discrimination. In this article, the question asked is if we should put Islam back into Islamophobia and, if so, on what basis? According to the existing literature as well as a study of converts to Islam, it is suggested that Islam as a religion is both an important feature of Islamophobia as well as central to the identities of many Muslims, and then it is suggested why and how we should think about including religion into the scope of thinking on Islamophobia and how it is addressed.

The controversial concept of the Elbe Sandstones National Park as proposed hy the Czech Ministry of Environment is being examined both from physical and human geographical viewpoints. The project of a National Park in geographical version includes three parts: mesas and kuestas in the West, sandstone rock cities in the East, and the Elbe River canyon in the centre. A discourse and social communication is offered for scientific and legitimate evaluation of geographical version. Cultural landscape and balanced regional development are in the focus of the new National Park.

Abstract We show that if a sequence of normalized polynomials gives rise to a positive basis of the skein algebra of a surface, then it is sandwiched between the two types of Chebyshev polynomials. For the closed torus, we show that the normalized sequence of Chebyshev polynomials of type one $(\hat{T}_n)$ is the only one that gives a positive basis.

Abstract Background Food addiction (FA) is a controversial concept, denoting the craving for certain foods. Given the little information available, the aim of this study was to evaluate the possible relationships between FA and full-blown and subthreshold psychopathology or eating behaviors in subjects consulting nutritional biologists. Materials and methods Three-hundred and fifty subjects completed the following self-questionnaires: Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS), Structured Clinical Interview for Mood Spectrum, Self-Report, Lifetime Version (MOOD-SR-LT), Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), Structured Clinical Interview for Anorexic-Bulimic Spectrum, Self-Report, Lifetime Version (ABS-SR-LT). Results Most of the subjects were women (n = 278) and the remaining were 72 men. A large proportion of the subjects (77.1%) had a YFAS score <3 and 22.9% ≥3, with no difference between men and women. The YFAS scores ≥3 were significantly and positively related to the all ABS-SR-LT domains, as well as to three dimensions (Depression, Hypomania, Rhythmicity) of the MOOD-SR-LT, and some SCL-90-R domains (Sensitivity, Psychoticism, General Symptom Index and Positive Symptom). Conclusion Our data, while indicating that FA is related to different subthreshold psychopathological domains, in particular, with both depressive and manic symptoms, as well as with rhythmicity of mood spectrum, or with eating subthreshold symptoms, would suggest that it might be a dimension underlying different conditions or symptom clusters.

Abstract The extraction of phenols as ion-pairs with tetrabutyl ammonium cations was studied with respect to variation of distribution as a function of solvent composition. The large solvent effect observed for 12 phenols gave quantitative agreement with an exponential relationship previously developed for other classes of ion-pairs and had approximately the same magnitude. An exception was noted for phenols substituted at the ortho position by nonpolar groups; decrease of the exponential value in these cases provided support for the controversial concept of specific solvation. Ortho substitution by polar groups led to a pronounced increase of extraction constants; this was explained in terms of delocalization of the anionic charge. Formylation via the Reimer-Tiemann reaction was observed as a complication in the extraction of some of the phenols.

We provide the first report of amyopathic dermatomyositis combined with peripheral neuropathy. Our patient, a 49-year-old woman, initially experienced muscle weakness and tingling sensations in her legs, and nerve conduction study findings and the detection of antiganglioside antibodies indicated that she had autoimmune peripheral neuropathy. The unexpected presence of skin lesions, interstitial pneumonia and antibodies to melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5 prompted an additional diagnosis of amyopathic dermatomyositis. No previous report has described amyopathic dermatomyositis with peripheral neuropathy, and the present case provides evidence for the once-controversial concept of neuromyositis.

All societies moving towards peace must establish reparation measures for victims of political violence. This is not an easy task, however; political victimhood is a controversial concept by itself and all victims of this type are mixed up with general politics from both the past and the present. In divided societies, such as Northern Ireland and the Basque Country, controversies about the definition of political victimhood reproduce old divisions from the past. Drawing on these two case studies, this research project gathers together some initial thoughts on the conceptualisation of political victimhood with regard to three different models: the harm-, blame- and context-based models. The primary contribution of the article lies in the formulation of the third model, the context-based framework.
