With the rapid development of urban road traffic, there are a certain number of black spots in an urban road network. Therefore, it is important to create a method to effectively identify the urban road black spots in order to quickly and accurately ensure the safety of residents and maintain the sustainable development of a city. In this study, a GIS (geographic information system) and the Firefly Clustering Algorithm are combined. On the one hand, a GIS can accurately extract the distance between accident points through its spatial analysis function, overcoming the disadvantage of the accident data not usually including the specific location data. On the other hand, the Firefly Clustering Algorithm can be used to comprehensively extract the characteristics of accident points, which is particularly suitable for the identification of black spots. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed method, this research compares the identification effect between the OD (origin–destination) cost distance calculated by GIS and the Euclidean distance. The results show that the Euclidean distance is smaller than the OD cost distance and that the accident search method based on the Euclidean distance can overestimate the number of black spots, especially for intersections. Therefore, the proposed method based on the Firefly Clustering Algorithm and GIS can not only contribute to identifying urban road black spots but also plays an auxiliary role in reducing urban road crashes and maintaining sustainable urban development.

With rapid development of the geographic information system technique, the electronic chart has come into being and is more and more mature. The electronic chart can provide the accurate and detailed information about the ocean environment, including the depth of water, situation of the seabed, distance from the shore, position, orientation and velocity of the ship, and other useful information. This paper first gives some introduction about the electronic chart. After analyzing the characteristics of the electronic chart, the application of the electronic chart in ocean navigation is provided. Finally the existing problem of the electronic chart and its future development trend are also discussed.

Advances in mobility are clearly illustrated by the rapid development of urbanization and motorization in developing countries. Following the dramatic incensement of traffic demand, the parking problem has been becoming much more seriously important in many metropolises. With the aim of seeking solutions as to how the parking system could operate more efficiently by using new technologies and new methodologies, this paper discusses the application of geographic information system into the parking planning and management for traffic operation effectiveness in metropolis. The concentration of this paper includes the characteristics of parking demand and the causations of parking problems, especially the basic parking principle and strategies for solving parking problems from the perspective of geographic information system are discussed in enough detail in this paper.

Geographic information system (GIS) Education is booming up in China, GIS applications have already exceeded their areas of expertise driven by the needs of the community and promote the rapid development of GIS education in non-GIS expertise. The necessity and feasibility of application of GIS in the border defense teaching were discussed based on the introduction of GIS functions and some ideas about applications of GIS in the border defense teachingbased on the teaching of the border defense in , and the corresponding ideas were proposed.

Damage of disaster to residents can be mitigated by urgent refuge. But the old way to plan urgent refuge is not reasonable. So techniques and methods are needed. Geographic Information System (short for GIS) as a new technique and method is of some import to planning urgent refuge. Calculating the impact of factors in each raster, distribution maps of Euclidean distance is got. Then, the maps of factor which get different weight index are calculated by overlay way. The last map is as planning urgent refuge. After that, the way is used in a country as a test application. The result shows that the way based on GIS makes planning urgent refuge more scientific and more reasonable. Planning the country urgent refuge proposed is worthy to use for reference.
