Understanding the mechanisms of various factors that affect PM2.5 can assist in the development of scientific measures to improve air quality. Nevertheless, existing research has concentrated on exploring local effect mechanisms, while structural effect mechanisms at regional or national scales have scarcely been analysed. Consequently, this study presents an analytical framework for elucidating the structural effect mechanisms of associated factors on PM2.5. Geographically and temporally weighted regression was used to explore the local effect mechanisms. This was followed by spatial clustering analysis to reveal these mechanisms by detecting their aggregation patterns. In the analysis, datasets for annual mean PM2.5 and socio-economic factors in China from 1999 to 2016 were employed. Urban population, gross industrial output, and sulphur dioxide emissions were identified as factors affecting changes in PM2.5 concentrations. These three factors had both negative and positive effects, while the gross industrial output had the largest coefficient variation degree. Three geographically related factors exhibited different impacts on PM2.5 concentrations in most of mainland China. These factors were the urban population roughly west of the Heihe-Tengchong line, gross industrial output primarily in southwestern China, and sulphur dioxide emissions primarily in southern China.

Purpose The increase in enrolment into higher education and the inadequate student housing in educational institutions has led to the growth of off-campus private student housing in Nigeria. Studentification as a research area has received attention in most countries in the global North, whereas there is dearth of studies on studentification in Nigeria. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the effects of studentification on the residents of selected Nigerian communities. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted an exploratory research strategy. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather qualitative data from respondents, who were landlords and indigenous tenants of the host communities of two tertiary institutions. The data collected were analysed by means of the thematic analysis technique. Findings It became evident that studentification has some effects on the communities. Significant positive effects are business patronage and liveliness, while socio-economic-related factors, which include indecent clothing and theft, were noted as the most significant negative factors. Practical implications Implementing the outcomes of this study will contribute to promoting societal ethical values and economic prosperity of the communities. Originality/value The paper contributes to building the body of knowledge on the effect of studentification in the Nigerian context.

Guangzhou is believed to be the most important epicenter of dengue outbreaks in southern China. In this study, a longitudinal serological investigation of previous cases of dengue fever in Guangzhou was conducted to explore the persistence of IgG antibodies and related factors affecting the changes of antibody level. We recruited 70 dengue virus type 1 (DENV-1) primary infection cases at two years post infection for serological investigation and conducted a second follow-up in the 5th year of prognosis. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for DENV IgG antibody was examined in all study subjects. Potential factors associated with the concentration of serum total IgG antibody were determined by the generalized estimation equation (GEE). No significant difference in serum total IgG antibody positive rate between two follow-ups was observed (χ2 = 3.066, p = 0.080). However, there was a significant difference in the concentration of serum total IgG antibody between the two follow-ups (Z = 7.154, p < 0.001). The GEE showed that the antibody level in the five-year prognosis was mainly affected by the antibody level in the two-year prognosis (OR: 1.007, 95%CI: 1.005–1.009). In conclusion, the serum IgG antibodies of previous dengue fever cases can persist for a long time.

Fluid fuel combustion technology in coal-fired power plants is very popular in the Czech Republic, resulting in a relatively high production of a specific by-product - fluidized fly ash (class C according to ASTM definition), which differs from the classical high-temperature fly ash in mineralogical composition with a high sulphur content of anhydrite CaSO4. Fluidized ash is not yet used in the production of fired building materials, where it could be used as a source of calcium oxide (for example, the production of porous ceramic tiles). However, high volume of sulphur dioxide emissions during the re-firing of fluidized fly ash in ceramic raw materials mixtures has been solved. The aim of the paper is definition of temperature ranges of anhydrite decomposition (formation of SO2 emission) from pure class C (fluidized) fly ashes from different sources (power plants) depending on granulometry of fly ash especially.
