This study investigated the ventilation efficiency and energy performance of three ventilation strategies—an all-air system (AAS), a radiant panel system with a displacement ventilation system (DPS), and a radiant panel system with a decentralized ventilation system (DVS). The research analyzed the indoor air quality (IAQ) in a high-rise building based on the building’s height, the air handling unit (AHU) location, air infiltration rate, outdoor air pollution rate, seasonal change, and air filter efficiency. The results indicated that the AAS had the best performance in terms of IAQ in the high-rise building in winter; however, the AAS also had the highest annual energy demand. For the same conditions, the DVS consumed less energy but had the worst performance in maintaining a satisfactory IAQ. Considering energy consumption, it is worth developing the DVS further to improve ventilation performance. By applying a double-filter system on the lower floors in a high-rise building, the DVS’s ventilation performance was dramatically improved while at the same time consuming less energy than the original DPS and AAS. The application of DVS can also minimize the negative effect of the infiltration rate on indoor air quality (IAQ) in a building, which means that the DVS can better maintain IAQ within a healthy range for a more extended period. Moreover, it was found that the DVS still had a substantial potential for saving energy during the season when the outdoor air was relatively clean. Hence, it is highly recommended that the DVS is used in high-rise buildings.

This study investigated the impact of outdoor air pollutants on indoor air quality in a high-rise building, considering factors related to the seasons and air infiltration. Further, the impact of atmospheric weather conditions on air infiltration has been analysed in a downtown area of Suzhou, China. The influence of the outdoor air pollution rate on indoor air quality in the office building was investigated based on on-site measurements and computer simulations. Results showed that the impact of outdoor air pollutants on indoor air quality was highest in winter, followed by spring, autumn and summer. Furthermore, multiple factors, which affect the indoor air quality in a high-rise building, have been further investigated in this study, including stack effect, wind effect, infiltration rate, outdoor air pollution rate, seasonal change and air filter efficiency. The significant influence of these factors on the indoor air quality level with floor height variations has been verified. Based on the analysis, a high-efficiency filter is recommended to maintain healthy indoor air quality. Meanwhile, a double-filter system is required if a building is exposed to heavily polluted outdoor air considering the most substantial impact of outdoor air pollutants on indoor air quality in winter. Moreover, a numerical model of steady-state indoor PM2.5 concentration was established to determine the suitable air filter efficiency and airtightness.

 Elevated CO2 rates in a building affect the health of the occupant. This paper deals with an experimental and numerical analysis conducted in a full-scale test room located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Technology. The experiments and CFD were conducted for analyzing ventilation performance. It is a study on the effect of the discharge airflow rate of the ceiling type air-conditioner on ventilation performance in the lecture room with the mixing ventilation. Most obtained findings show that database and questionnaires analyzed prefer heights between 0.2 m to 1.2 m in the middle of an occupied zone and breathing zone height of between 0.75 m to 1.8 given in the literature surveyed. It is noticed the mismatch of internal conditions with thermal comfort, and indoor air quality recommended by [ASHRAE Standard 62, ANSI / ASHRAE Standard 55-2010]. CFD simulations have been carried to provide insights on the indoor air quality and comfort conditions throughout the classroom. Particle concentrations, thermal conditions, and modified ventilation system solutions are reported.

This study was concerned with the residents’ health awareness of their behavior which affected indoor air quality (IAQ) in high rise building in Jakarta, Indonesia.  This analysis was aimed to describe the difference between the strength of the influence of residents’ dimension to IAQ in unit with knowledge variable and that of without knowledge variable. The behavior based on health knowledge became the parameter of health awareness. The descriptive result indicated that the residents in Rusunami high rise building were well-educated people but not all of them had good behavior.  Participants whose occupations are related to health tended to take care of indoor air quality better than those from other occupation. With the structural equation modeling (SEM), the construct of residents’ dimension was formulated based on physical and psychological comfort,  as well as involving  the healthy life participation and pollution activities. It was found that this combination drove behavioral change to IAQ in high rise building.  Partial Least Square analysis showed that the knowledge of IAQ could raise the effect of residents’ dimension to IAQ in unit from 15.2% to 16.6%.

The modern people are active in various cultural facilities and enjoy the leisure life. The spectators and performers using a small concert hall generally use this space for about 2[Formula: see text]h in an enclosed state, and so the space should maintain a comfortable thermal environment and indoor air quality. The ventilation systems that can be applied to small concert hall are generally classified as the mixing ventilation system and the displacement ventilation system, but the upward displacement ventilation system is known to be able to maintain the clean indoor air quality with high energy efficiency. The upward displacement ventilation system installed in a dome-shaped small concert hall is not limited in the height of the vertical wall. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the optimal height of the return diffuser by utilizing the ventilation performance and the air diffusion performance index (ADPI). This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of the return diffuser position on the ventilation performance of an upward displacement ventilation system installed in a dome-shaped small concert hall. It was confirmed that as the height at which the return diffuser is installed on the vertical wall increases, the ventilation efficiency increases and the thermal stratification formed in the upper area is significantly reduced.

The article presents the results of indoor air quality (IAQ) assessment in four local preschools. The natural ventilation system was used in the buildings. Outdoor air was supplied to the premises through a leak in the external walls and air intakes were of maximum efficiency of 30 m3/h. Parameters describing IAQ were measured, such as: temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide concentration. Two series of studies were performed in each preschool. On the basis of the survey, it can be clearly stated that the indoor air quality in preschools is considered to be very low very low. All the analyzed parameters describing the quality do not meet the current legal requirements. Reported values of CO2 concentration exceeded three times the value set of the recommended maximum.
