The assessment of tourist destination images should not only be the arrangement of multiple influencing factors. This study explores the complex causal relationship for tourist destination images based on a configuration perspective to enhance the overall tourism image using the fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis method. The configurational paths for promoting tourism image can be categorized into two types and nine configurations in Shandong Province. Therefore, this study recommends augmenting the tourism image of the entire region with the logical thinking of “segmentation–integration” and “enhancing strengths–supplementing weakness” and finally realizing a sustainable tourist destination image.

As the internal requirement of the development of China’s traditional manufacturing industry, intelligent transformation has gradually become the main goal of China’s regional manufacturing transformation. From the perspective of manufacturing value chain, this paper proposes a conceptual model of intelligent transformation of manufacturing industry. Taking 22 sample cities as cases, the paper uses fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method to identify the necessary factors of intelligent transformation of manufacturing industry and the configuration analysis of each factor combination, and then obtains three realization paths to promote intelligent transformation. The results show that intelligent technology innovation and intelligent industry investment are the necessary conditions for the intelligent transformation of manufacturing industry, and there are three configuration paths: collaborative R&D and processing, external factor driven and value chain climbing, which promote the intelligent transformation of manufacturing industry. This paper enriches the research on intelligent transformation of manufacturing industry from the perspective of value chain, and uses the qualitative comparative analysis method of fuzzy set to provide countermeasures and suggestions for the direction and path of intelligent transformation of manufacturing industry.

AbstractThis manuscript analyzes start-ups’ usage of different communication strategies (information, response, involvement), their underlying decision logics (effectuation, causation, strategy absence) and respective social media success. A multitude of studies have been published on the decision logics of entrepreneurs as well as on different communication strategies. Decision logics and according strategies and actions are closely connected. Still, research on the interplay between the two areas is largely missing. This applies in particular to the effect of different decision logics and communication models on social media success. Through a combination of case studies with fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis this exploratory study demonstrates that different combinations of causal and absence of strategy decision logics can be equally successful when it comes to social media engagement, whereas effectuation is detrimental for success. Furthermore, we find that two-way-communication is essential to create engagement, while information strategy alone cannot lead to social media success. This study provides new insights into the role of decision logics and connects effectuation theory with the communication literature, a field that has been dominated by causal approaches.

This study investigates the motivation configuration of bluxury tourism behavior. According to complexity theory and push and pull motivation theory, we establish a framework of complex configuration conditions, including push forces, pull forces, and constraints that lead to bluxury tourism. Based on fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis, we identified seven main motivation configurations of bluxury tourism behavior covering three core factors: physical factors, seeking/exploration in push forces, and intangible factors in pull forces. In addition, combinations of constraints in the configuration demonstrate various paths leading to bluxury tourism behavior. These findings provide unique insight into bluxury tourism participation.
