Karst aquifers are indispensable, yet vulnerable, resources; therefore, they require a comprehensive protection strategy. Since springs are the terminal points of the karst flow systems, knowledge of their distribution is a key element for the better understanding of groundwater flow, availability and vulnerability. The present study aims to introduce a data-driven analysis by the application of a spatial statistical technique (Weights of Evidence (WofE)) for the evaluation of factors influencing spring distribution in karst areas. A workflow was developed for investigating two questions: where will the springs locate, and where will the permanent springs evolve? This workflow has the potential for application to unconfined karst areas. This enhanced approach was applied to an unconfined transboundary aquifer, the Gömör–Torna Karst (HU and SK). The roles of five factors was statistically investigated: terrain elevation, distance to faults, distance of the carbonate–non-carbonate rock contact, distance to sinkholes, and precipitation distribution. The validation procedures confirmed the effectiveness of the approach. The resulting predictive maps are useful for decision-makers to delineate areas holding potential karst springs and to address water availability problems and protection measures. In addition, the WofE technique improved the comprehension of the geological conditions favourable for the formation of the springs.

The purpose of this study is to find out the empirical relationship and influence of Research Environment, Integration of the university with Industry, High-tech Employment and Professional & Managerial Development on the University Performance.A Questionnaire has been used to collect the data. Correlation and Regression analysis were used to determine the relationship and influence of identified dimensions over the University Performance. The findings of the study show that the identified dimensions significantly relate and influence the University Performance. This study would be helpful for the university administration while making policies to upgrade its performance. Less work has been done in Pakistan for the development of universities. This study distinctively identifies and represents the variables and their influence over the university performance. The findings increase the value of the study as it would help the decision makers at the universities to think ‘out of the box’.

In Saudi Arabia, Mobile government (m-government) is in its infancy. This study aims to explore potential factors influencing adoption of m-government services in Saudi Arabia to improve future implementation. The review of the relevant literature revealed a lack of research regarding the factors that may potentially influence the adoption m-government services in Saudi Arabia by using TAM model based on the perspective of experts in Yesser. To examine relationships between external factors and behavioural intention to use (BIU) in the TAM model, a qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with five experts from Yesser. Analysis demonstrated that the factors of trustworthiness, usage experience, awareness and security might influence the adoption of m-government services in Saudi Arabia. The results of the qualitative study also demonstrated that enjoyment does not influence the adoption of m-government services in Saudi Arabia. These findings may help decision makers in Saudi government to improve future implementation of m-government services.

Indicators are important tools to guide and assist decision-makers. They are also important to get to know the scenario of a given place and monitor its development. This study aimed to analyze the behavior of the municipalities of Marajó-PA through indicators that cover social, economic, housing and sanitation, using a statistical technique of multivariate analysis to group these into a small number of homogeneous groups. In order to choose the indicators, we carried out a checklist of national, regional and local academic papers dealing with sustainability. Then, the indicators were standardized according to the different units and scales of measurement, not influencing the result and presenting similar weights in the calculation of the similarity coefficient. The measure of dissimilarity used was the euclidean distance and for the composition of the groupings the Ward and k-Means methods were applied. The result obtained using Ward’s hierarchical grouping method enabled the reduction of the numbers of municipalities to a number of 4 probable groups with similar attributes within the group and distinct among the others. It also presented a cofenetic correlation coefficient (CCC) of (r = 0.81), indicating a good degree of fit between the dendrogram and the dissimilarity matrix. The results indicated that the formation of the clusters and the municipalities integrated in them presented similarity both in the hierarchical and non-hierarchical methods. In the k-means method it was found that almost all municipalities that make territorial division remained within the same group.

BACKGROUND Early research in the area of virtual care solutions with peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients has focused on evaluating the outcomes and impact of these solutions. There has been less attention focused on understanding the factors influencing the uptake, usability, and scalability of virtual care for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients receiving PD at home. OBJECTIVE In this context, a study was undertaken to (1) assess and understand the factors influencing the uptake of a virtual care solution and (2) provide recommendations for the scalability of a virtual care solution aimed at enhancing CKD patients’ outcomes and experiences. METHODS This study used a qualitative design with semistructured interviews and a thematic analysis approach. A total of 25 stakeholders—6 patients and 3 caregivers, 6 health care providers, 2 vendors, and 8 health system decision makers—participated in this study. RESULTS The following three primary mechanisms emerged to influence the usability of the virtual care solution: (1) receiving hands-on training and ongoing communication from a supportive team, (2) adapting to meet user needs and embedding them into workflow, and (3) being influenced by patient and caregiver characteristics. Further, two overarching recommendations were developed for considerations around scalability: (1) co-design locally, embed into the daily workflow, and deploy over time and (2) share the benefits and build the case. CONCLUSIONS Study findings can be used by key stakeholders in their future efforts to enhance the implementation, uptake, and scalability of virtual care solutions for CKD and managing PD at home.

Research at home and abroad shows that subway excavation often causes soil stress loss, resulting in settlement deformation and horizontal displacement of stratum. Therefore, combined with the special engineering geological conditions in Kunming area, the foundation deformation caused by subway excavation is studied, so as to provide an important foundation for proposing the protection measures of surrounding buildings and buried pipelines and promoting the construction of subway.

Even though there is emerging literature on e-government, research focused on potential problems related to citizens' adoption of e-government services in developing countries is still limited. As a developing country, e-government services in Pakistan have witnessed prolific advancements over the years. Since 2002, Pakistan has strategically adopted e-government as a part of its policy. In this chapter, the factors influencing citizens' e-government service adoption in Pakistan are examined using the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model. The findings indicate that, in addition to the lack of awareness and data privacy, all of the factors specified by the model have an effect on the adoption of these services in Pakistan. The empirical results highlight the voice of citizens concerning the usage of the services. This information can be used by the policy and decision makers to promote services that correspond better to the needs of the citizens.
