ALTA SOLUTION FROM KNEWTON AS A TOOL OF SUPPORT FOR ADAPTIVE LEARNING IN MATHEMATICS

The article analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the adaptive learning platform Knewton. Recommendations for the development and use of an adaptive course based on Knewton (for example, a program for studying mathematics Alta) are given: creating a profile (account), choosing readymade tasks, designing your own course in Alta, monitoring the students’ activity.

<p>Computer assisted and computer based applications become more and more important in everyday lives. Their implementation in the field of music education seems to become a long-term project. Whereas years ago we were sure about the fact, that the quality of e-learning at our University of Music and Performing Arts depends on the implementation of audio-visual media at our e-learning platform, nowadays the text based tasks and written journals have won the race at least in the statistic of usage. </p><p>Many modules containing multimedia based content promote creative processes and different learning situations. Advantages of e-learning include flexibility and convenience for learners, especially if they have more variety in learning experiences by using multimedia applications. This paper deals with the change of our user behaviors in the last years, discussion forums, blogs, wikis and collaborative online activities and focuses on tools for musicians, composers and music scientists based on the actual status of the discussions in media pedagogies. A scientific project including surveys about the advantages and disadvantages of digital teaching repositories describes common used online music tools. </p><div><span><strong><br /></strong></span></div>

Adaptive learning platforms that individualize each learner's experience according to their input have only recently become widely accessible. This chapter illustrates some of the potential of adaptive learning platforms and describes a case study where this emerging technology has been used with physiotherapy students in a simulated clinical setting. Aspects of patient care scenarios presented with an adaptive learning platform were interleaved with live simulated patient interactions. Evaluation of the projects and the benefits and challenges of using adaptive learning platforms in biomedical education are discussed.

In this chapter, a game-based student response system, Kahoot!, is investigated. The purpose of the chapter was to analyze instructors and pre-service teachers' perspectives about the use of this platform. The advantages and disadvantages of integrating this tool in the classroom was investigated. Pre-service teachers' feedback and instructors' experiences using Kahoot! in higher education classrooms indicate that pre-service teachers welcome the use of these kind of games. Kahoot! can be used not only to increase student participation in the classroom but also as a formative assessment tool. Kahoot! can provide an engaging learning environment and adds active participation in the classroom by appealing even the most introverted students. In addition, immediate feedback feature of this game-based learning platform provides opportunities for instructors to tailor their instruction based on student understanding on games.

The second article in a three-part series discusses how to deliver a distance education online course by i) assuring understanding of the learning platform, ii) developing a course model, iii) creating individual assignment rubrics for courses, iv) requiring active participation from both instructor and students, and v) setting-up quality communication. This paper is a continuation of the first paper whereby the history of distance learning, the positives and negatives of online learning, advantages and disadvantages of online learning, and the initial considerations for establishing online courses.

This paper presents the results of a pilot study investigating the use of the Realizeit adaptive learning platform to deliver a fully online General Psychology course across two semesters. Through mutual cooperation, UCF and vendor (CCKF) researchers examined students’ affective, behavioral, and cognitive reactions to the system. Student survey results indicated that students found the system easy to use and were generally positive about their seamless transition to adaptive learning. While the majority of students were successful, learning outcome metrics utilizing Realizeit indices indicated a potential for early prediction of students who are likely to be at risk in this environment. Recommendations are presented for the benefits of cooperative research between users and vendors.

<p class="0abstract"><span lang="EN-US">With the great advances in the world of mobile learning, development approaches are a very important challenge in designing an M-learning platform for instructors. The development can quickly become a handicap to the integration of certain functionalities and features if the approach is not very well thought and adapted to the pedagogical model designed for the platform. The purpose of this article is to clarify certain comparative aspects between the various methods of development of mobile learning platforms, their ordering and processing and the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. The authors present a multi-criteria analysis which can help instructors in decision-making by assisting their choice of the mobile development approach according to the most important criteria. This paper constitutes an overview of the m-learning platforms from design implementation point of view and will help researchers implement the pedagogical design model described in previous work.</span></p>
