Cultural diversity is a necessity in the human community in the world. Cultures have different value systems, so they determine different life goals, and determine ways of communicating that are strongly influenced by language, rules and norms in each culture. So that every communication activity with other people always contains the potential for cross-cultural or intercultural communication, because it will always be in a "culture" that is different from other people. This study aims to find out how cultural differences between foreign tourists and local communities are examined based on the study of cross-cultural communication, so that they can be understood together and avoid culture shock. This research was conducted in the tourist village of Kandri, Gunungpati sub-district, Semarang city with the object of research of foreign tourists who came in the tourist village. The research method used is a qualitative field reserach. Data collection techniques in this study were interviews and observations. The results of the study show that the distinguishing factors in communication can be seen from the verbal and nonverbal language systems, economic systems, educational systems, cultures (values and norms), and religious systems.

This paper examines the spoken discourse of immigrant professionals problem solving in small groups in order to see how different cultural values both influence, and are reflected in, the way a problem is defined and solutions proposed. It also provides evidence that these values are one of the factors that contribute to miscommunication in this type of communication. Three types of miscommunication are identified: misinterpretation of the message because a cultural filter distorts the message; incomplete comprehension because the underlying values are not explicated and the hearers remain unaware of the full implications of the message; and comprehension but misunderstanding and dissonance because the values of the hearers are at variance with the reality of the message. The extent to which the views of individuals conformed to the value systems general ascribed to their cultural background is discussed and instances of individual variance noted. Finally, the implications for teaching and workplace training suggested by these findings are discussed.

The cultural translation view considers translation as a cross-cultural communication activity. The paradigm and thinking of translation will also have profound changes in different cultural contexts. It can be seen from modern translation studies that the translation circle has paid full attention to the cultural differences between the two languages, and due to the profound influence of culture, translators have gradually formed their own unique and personalized cultural understanding and translation concepts in translation practice. Starting from the influence of cultural context on Chinese-English translation, this article explores the cultural context in Chinese-English translation combined with practical work experience, and the understanding and practice of translation activities under the cultural translation perspective.

Globalization can help people gain knowledge and improve learning about how a diversity of the cultures does not cause any conflict, misunderstand, and share knowledge across the culture peacefully. It can be termed as cross-cultural communication. Based on this paper's aims, this article discussed the theory of multiculturalism (cultural diversity), cross-cultural communication, the types of culture shock, the cases of culture shock experience such as the stages of culture shock and reverse culture shock. Thus, this study aims to discuss the theory of multiculturalism and an overview of culture shocks experienced by the student exchange program. As a result, shock culture experience is found by most of the people who live for some duration times. However, they will face reverse culture shock when returning to their home country, even though some returnees do not experience it.

Cultural differences between native and Indonesian culture makes foreign students in Indonesia experience a culture shock. Such case occurs on students from Pattani, South Thailand, who study in IAIN Tulungagung. To overcome that culture shock, Pattani students do communication accommodation to make them feel comfortable in a new environment, and thus can be accepted by Javanese students from Indonesia. This research was a kind of qualitative study. The data were collected by using observation and interview techniques. To find out the forms of communication accommodation performed by Pattani students, the researchers adopted communication accommodation theory by Giles. The results of this research revealed that there were two forms of communication accommodation performed by Pattani student. <em>Firstly,</em> convergence, was performed when Pattani students tried to level communication behavior with their speech partners. Convergence done by Pattani students can be classified into pre-convergence, convergence process, and post convergence. <em>Secondly,</em> divergence, is defending Pattani identity when communicating with Javanese students. Divergence accommodation were performed in two forms namely verbal and non-verbal.
