This paper deals with a partial study that is being carried out on teaching strategies that are used in the teaching practice of some institutions of higher education, which work under the competence approach. Likewise, an analysis is made of the basic competences that teachers must possess to work on any subject of the curricular maps established at a higher level under this same approach. Through this study and analysis the reality of teaching practices is exposed once educational reforms focused on the professionalization of teachers have been approved, showing the challenges, advances and areas of opportunity in the short term. Evidencing that although the educational approach by competences is currently being worked on at all levels, from basic education to higher education, there are still many gaps between the links that make up the education system chain

Elas abarcam a temática ambiental? Meio Ambiente. Infância. AbstractBased on the understanding that Environmental Education should be an intentional and coherent practice, this paper proposes to perform a literature review that articulates the theoretical field of Environmental Education with that of Early Childhood Education, in order to observe the limits and possibilities of teaching practice, when dealing with the value construction or appropriation. Thus, the following questions guide the research: What  teaching practices can be identified in relation to the values appropriation ? Do they cover the environmental theme? In what contexts are they researched? Is early childhood education one of these contexts? For this discussion nine international articles were raised, which lead the reader to understand that teaching practices in relation to the values taught are distinct from one article to another: two of them as moral practice, three as construction, two as socialization, one as habits formation and one as clarification. Only two of the articles do not cover the environmental theme. Regarding the research context, in this survey the articles are directed to: five for Childhood - Basic Education, one for Basic Education with adolescents and three for Higher Education. Therefore, it was concluded that early childhood education is one of the contexts in which environmental education has been researched, especially regarding the appropriation of values relevant to the environmental theme. Keywords: Moral Education. Environment. Childhood.

As part of a PhD investigation, this presentation aims to reveal the findings on Portuguese as a Non-Native Language (PNNL) teaching practice when using technology to implement other language approaches such as Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT). A mixed research was developed to explain if there was a relation between technology use and the implementation of different language methods and teaching strategies, and also holistic task development. Data was gathered from 101 PNNL teachers, with working experience in and out of Portugal. The results provided evidence that technology was not being used to engage students in active learning and holistic tasks, as TBLT sustains, nor was it being used to develop different language methods and teaching strategies. It has been concluded that PNNL teachers were not using technology in their teaching practice to better implement other language methods, such as TBLT.

The present study is the result of an investigation carried out for eight months, from March to October 2006, comprises Grade 1 classes at the São Paulo Public Education System, Brazil. Forty teacher students performing literacy activities during their pre-service activities simultaneously conducted this action research in 40 Grade 1. Six-year-old children were moved from preschool education to elementary schools since 2006 in order to respect the legal determinations defined by the Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional (Brasil, 1996), which expanded basic education from 8 to 9 years. Such democratic governmental action, however, has raised issues concerning the way very young children are taught in a typically school-like context. From this perspective, our study enables us to raise sociocultural problems regarding the non-inclusive pedagogical practices in use. Results show non-inclusive pedagogical practices, as well some paths to change this educational setting.

At present, the priority goal of the higher education system is the formation of a personality not only professionally competent, but also tolerant, capable of creativity, able to predict his role in a dynamic world, responsible and passionate. Actually, all these characteristics are set by the labor market for the training of qualified and competitive personnel. However, as scientific research and teaching practice show, not all students can independently achieve the necessary results due to their lack of adaptation to higher education. Therefore, we need specialists who can help them in this and show them the right direction. In this regard, there is a growing interest in the study of curatorial activity, its role and place in the higher education system. The article, within the framework of the "School of Curators" created at S. Seifulin Agro Technical University, analyzes the results of diagnostics in order to identify the pedagogical competence of curators, focuses on a number of reasons that impede their activities, as well as a number of tested areas of activity that contribute to their elimination, offers a number of measures aimed to improve the pedagogical culture of curators of student groups who do not have a basic pedagogical education.

The NCF-2005, NCFTE-2009 and the New Education Policy-2020 recommend teachers to be reflective practitioners. The realization of the concept of reflective teaching practice helps us to openly accept the new changes that are brought about by the education system and enables us to progress towards the betterment of the education system. The fundamental principle of teacher education is to be on reflective teaching model. As the reflective practice has been introduced more recently, there has been a shift in the approaches of teaching from teacher centeredness to learner centeredness. Adapting to the novel changes requires a mind-set to acknowledge the changes and evolve according to the need. It also involves likes and dislikes which can be rightly called attitudes. It is helpful to know the level of attitude of teachers, so as to provide them with required training, motivation and support. This helps the teachers also to change their attitudes towards reflective teaching. The measurement of attitude towards reflective teaching practices enables the teacher-educators, the educationists and the government to design programmes to help teachers develop a positive attitude to the new recommendations. It also helps the teacher education institutions to inculcate the positive attitudes towards the reflective teaching so as to prepare the entrant teachers to become reflective practitioners. Hence the attitude scale was constructed. The main purpose of the attitude scale is to measure and quantify the attitude towards reflective teaching practices. The reflective teaching practice scale was developed based on Likert scale construction procedures. The theoretical framework was adopted from the Pollard’s Reflective Teaching.

Motivation: The crisis of liberal democracy reveals a new dimension to the dispute over the role of the university. Declining trust in elites and the growing uncertainty during the pandemic challenge the belief that the key aim of the university reform should be to subject it to the global mechanism of competition as well as to introduce modern management principles. In the American society, there is a growing belief that the higher education system in the United States is heading in the wrong direction and that universities are politically biased. Despite this, the American system inspires higher education all over the world, including Poland. Even during the pandemic, the attention of the academic community in Poland is focused on the lists of journals constituting the basis for the evaluation of universities and academics. Aim: The aim of the article is to demonstrate the threats posed by a higher education system governed by the dominant economic and political forces. The author evaluates the economic forces behind the parameterisation and ranking system, challenging the rationality of the Polish higher education reforms. The source of the arguments for academic freedom is the political economy that places economic goals in the perspective of long-term universal goals and examines the complex relationships between the economic, political and moral aspects. Results: Academic freedom is not a privilege of the academic world, but one of the foundations of the successful development of a democratic society because science and education cannot be subject to existing patterns of thinking and current economic and political forces. But modern universities are driven to act like firms in competitive market places and they are following trends set by short-term economic and politic interests. Political economy is an effective tool for analysing functioning of higher education operating in quasi-market conditions, imposed by the dominant market players and the state. Understanding the forces underlying the reform of universities requires an analysis of the processes of interpenetration of economic and political processes, which means that the paradigm of political economy is gaining importance. In view of the requirements imposed on universities, dictated by short-term interests, the most important thing is the awareness that the necessity of state financing means that no solution will guarantee autonomy, if there is no responsibility of the academic community and self-discipline of its members.

We tested the effectiveness of Faculty Institutes for Reforming Science Teaching IV (FIRST), a professional development program for postdoctoral scholars, by conducting a study of program alumni. Faculty professional development programs are critical components of efforts to improve teaching and learning in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, but reliable evidence of the sustained impacts of these programs is lacking. We used a paired design in which we matched a FIRST alumnus employed in a tenure-track position with a non-FIRST faculty member at the same institution. The members of a pair taught courses that were of similar size and level. To determine whether teaching practices of FIRST participants were more learner-centered than those of non-FIRST faculty, we compared faculty perceptions of their teaching strategies, perceptions of environmental factors that influence teaching, and actual teaching practice. Non-FIRST and FIRST faculty reported similar perceptions of their teaching strategies and teaching environment. FIRST faculty reported using active learning and interactive engagement in lecture sessions more frequently compared with non-FIRST faculty. Ratings from external reviewers also documented that FIRST faculty taught class sessions that were learner-centered, contrasting with the teacher-centered class sessions of most non-FIRST faculty. Despite marked differences in teaching practice, FIRST and non-FIRST participants used assessments that targeted lower-level cognitive skills. Our study demonstrated the effectiveness of the FIRST program and the empirical utility of comparison groups, where groups are well matched and controlled for contextual variables (for example, departments), for evaluating the effectiveness of professional development for subsequent teaching practices.
