The Effect of Corporate Governance, Ownership and Tax Aggressiveness on Earnings Management

Objective - The purpose of this research is to empirically examine the effect of corporate governance, ownership and tax aggressiveness on earnings management. Methodology/Technique - The population of this research consists of non-financial companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) between 2013 and 2015. This research uses 3 recent years and utilizes different variable that have not been used in prior research. The 67 samples were choose using a purposive sampling method. The hypotheses are tested using multiple regression analysis with the SPSS program, to investigate the influence of each independent variable on earnings management. Findings - The results show that the board of director have a positive influence on earnings management, while board independence, audit quality, managerial ownership, and tax aggressiveness have no influence on earnings management. Novelty - This research add value in the existing literature and empirically study the effect of the board of directors, independence of the board, audit quality, managerial ownership, and tax agressiveness on earnings management. ABSTRACT This reseach amied at knowing the influence of audit quality, propotion of independent commissioner, audit committe, firm size, managerial ownership and leverage. It used purposive sampling technique or choosing samples based on certain criteria. The sample of this research was 25 companies of banking industry in indonesia stock exchange period 2008-2012. Descriptive analysis, classical test, as well as multiple linear regression by examining the hypothesis using SPSS 20.0 were used to analyzed the data. The result shows that (1) all independent variables simultaneously hasinfluence on earnings management; (2) however partially audit committee, audit quality, managerial ownership and leverage do not affect significantly to earnings management; (3) only firm size and independent commissioner that affect significantly to earning management. This study aims to determine the effect of good corporate governance and leverage on earnings management. The population used is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2014-2015 and the sample determination method used is purposive judgment sampling. Samples obtained were 44 companies. Data analysis techniques used are descriptive analysis, classic assumption test, multiple linear regression test, and hypothesis testing. This study found that simultaneous good corporate governance and corporate leverage influence earnings management. Partially, this research found that good corporate governance is proxied by institutional ownership (KI), managerial ownership (KM), audit committee (KA), company size (UK), and leverage affect earnings management, while the independent board of commissioners (DKI) and the board of directors (DD) have no effect on earnings management.

This study aims to verify the correlation between financial distress and earnings management of tax aggressiveness moderated by corporate governance. This study uses a population of manufacturing companies that publish their financial statement on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2017 until 2018. Sample collection was performed using a purposive sampling method, resulting in a total of 212 populations that published complete financial reports. This study was tested by using the Multiple Regression Analysis test. This research gave empirical proofs that financial distress and real earnings management positively influenced the tax aggressiveness was supported, the proportion of independent commissioners weakened the financial distress and negatively impacted the tax aggressiveness was supported, the total audit committees weakened the financial distress and negatively influenced the tax aggressiveness was not supported, the proportion of independent commissioners and total audit committees weakened the real earnings management and negatively affected the tax aggressiveness was not supported

<p><em>The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of GCG variables, firm size, and leverage on earnings management. The sample used is 35 public listed property and real estatecompanies in the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2015 until 2017. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. This study uses multiple regression. The results of the analysis showed that managerial ownership does not have a negative effect on earnings management but oppositely, it has a positive effect on earnings management, while company size does not have any effect on earning management.</em><em> </em></p>

The purpose of this research is to provide empirical evidence of the affect of ownership concetration, firms size, and corporate governance mechanisms on earnings management. Ownership concetration was measure by the biggest stock of individual or organization, firms size was measure by natural logaritma of net assets, and corporate governance mechanisms were measure by three variabels (composition of board of commisioner, audit quality were measure by industry specialize audit firm, and composition of audit committee). Earnings management was measure by discretionary accruals use Modified Jones Method. The population of this research is 41 companies in the banking sector which were listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX). The research data were collected from banking companies financial statement for the period of 2016 to 2018. Based on purposive sampling method. The reseacrh hypotesis were tested using multiple regression analysis. The results of this research show that firm size, firm of commissioner and proportion of commissioner have significant relationships with earnings management. Next, variables composition of board of commissioner, ownership concetration and specialize audit firm have no significant relationship with earnings management. This study is aimed to examine the effect of corporate governance mechanisms, such as, independent board of. commissioner composition, board of commisioner size, audit committee, institutional ownership, and managerial ownership toward profit management. This research used 5 of food company and Baverages that was listed in Indonesia stock Exchange since 2014-2018. The sample of this research are selected by purposive sampling method. Analysis method of this research used multiple regression. Earnings management measured by using discretionary accrual. The result of this study showed that the result of regression as follow: = 7,365 + 0,631 XI + 0,553 X2 + 0,583 X3 + 0,674 X4 + 0,768 X5 + e. However the result of variable: (1) Composition of independent commissioner council has the effect of significant at profit management. It was proved by t value is higher than t table that was 4,291 > 2,085. (2) Standard of commissioner council has the effect of significant at profit management, it was proved by the result of t value is higher than t table that was 3,148 > 2,085. (3) the committee of audit has the effect of significant at profit management. It was proved by t value is higher than t value 3,569 > 2.085. (4) The ownership of constitutional has the effect of significant at profit management. It was proved by t value is higher than t table that was 4,422 > 2,085. (5) The ownership of managerial at profit management. It was proved by t value is higher than t table 5,618 > 2,085. (6) Composition of independent commissioner council, standard of commissioner council, the committee of audit, the ownership of constitutional, the ownership of managerial have the effect of significant at profit management. The result of calculation showed that f value that is 22,861, while f table 2,74 (22,861 > 2,74). It means that f value is higher than f table. The result of calculation of Composition of independent commissioner council, standard of commissioner council, the committee of audit, the ownership of constitutional, and the ownership of managerial showed that the value coofesien was 0,730 (73%) and the balance 0,270 (27%) it is described by other variable was not include in this research.

Objective - The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of good corporate governance (GCG) on Indonesia's SOEs and the influence of state ownership on company performance. Methodology/Technique - This study examines State Owned Enterprises in Indonesia that were listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange between 2011 and 2015. Findings - The empirical results show that GCG and state ownership both have a positive influence on the company's financial performance (in this case, Return On Assets). However, the percentage of state ownership has a negative effect on the relationship between Good Corporate Governance and Return On Assets. Novelty - One agency cost is monitoring expenditure by the principal. Privatization is one way to improve the performance of SOEs. Privatization is believed to improve the performance of SOEs, as a result of increased supervision of the performance of SOEs in Indonesia. The aim of the study is to analyze the impact of corporate governance rules on earnings management for companies listed on Palestine Exchange. A number of corporate governance variables was selected to achieve this aim, including size of board of directors, CEO duality, board of director’s independence, property rights, number of board directors’ meetings. Modified Jones Model has been used to detect earnings management. Panel Data Model has also been involved in the study, where the population study consists of the 48 companies listed on Palestine Exchange, and which are distributed across five main sectors. The study sample included 13 industrial and services companies listed on Palestine Exchange. This study found that there was a negative influence between board size and CEO duality, and between earnings management. The study also showed that there is a positive influence between board independence and earnings management. Moreover, it showed that no relationship between board directors meetings and internal ownership with earnings management. The study stressed on the need for continued reinforcement of the governance rules, in order to avoid the negative impacts resulted from failure to apply these rules, taking into consideration the support of board independence in their relationship with areas of executive work to avoid taking decision that may affect earnings management. It also recommended that doing other researches on the same subject should be continued, taking into account the examination of variables other than those in this study to get to the variables that have the greatest impact on earnings management for companies listed on Palestine Exchange.

Earnings management is a manager's deliberate action to manipulate financial statements with permissible limits with the aim of providing incorrect information for users of financial statements. The variables tested in this study consisted of independent variables and dependent variables. The independent variables tested in this study consisted of independent board of commissioners, managerial ownership, audit committee, and board of commissioners. While the dependent variable is earnings management as measured by the modified Jones model discretionary accruals. This study uses 52 data on manufacturing companies in the consumer goods sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2016 to 2019. Sampling using the purpose sampling method. All data obtained from the company's annual financial statements. The results of this research show that partially independent board of commissioners and managerial ownership have no effect on earnings management, while the size of the board of commissioners and audit committee has a positive effect on earnings management. This study was prepared with the intention of analyzing the impact of the Good Corporate Governance (GCG) Mechanism on the Stubben Model of Profit Management (analysis of Mining Sector Companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2014-2019). The population used in the study is the mining sector companies on the IDX. The sample selection method used purposive sampling technique. To process data after sample selection, compile a research model, determine the variables analyzed in the study, and propose a hypothesis, the next step is to carry out data processing procedures through regression analysis with panel data. The results of the analysis conclude that (1) Institutional Ownership has a negative and significant impact on Earnings Management, (2) Managerial Ownership has a negative and significant impact on Earnings Management, (3) The Independent Board of Commissioners has a negative and significant impact on Earnings Management, (4) The Audit Committee has a negative and significant impact on Earnings Management, and (5) Audit Quality has a negative and significant impact on Earnings Management.
