The purpose of the article is to develop strategic directions in the management system of an industrial company in the conditions of uncertainty and instability of the market economy. The authors investigate the genesis of the theory of competitiveness, identify the signs of competitiveness of industrial companies in the short and long term. It is determined that financial and economic indicators, including profitability, financial stability, and financial leverage, play a significant role in the short- and long-term periods. The effect of financial leverage is calculated as a generalizing indicator of financial and economic indicators of competitiveness in Russian industries for 2015-2017, which has a predominantly negative value, which negatively affects the performance of companies. The main reason for this trend in Russia is the high level of financial dependence of companies, low return on assets and high interest rates on loans. Three strategic directions in the management of an industrial company in a volatile economy have been identified and analyzed: development of a corporate strategy of formation and improvement of competitiveness of companies based on innovation, implementation of strategic marketing and a concept of strategic controlling in the management of an industrial company. The priority strategies for ensuring the competitiveness of industrial companies (horizontal diversification, innovation or integrated growth) are identified; strategic marketing tools are proposed to stimulate technological processes in the industrial complex in an unstable economy; the directions of strategic controlling as a practical implementation of deviation management are identified. An approach to evaluate the effectiveness of a corporate strategy based on the size of a gap between the strategic plan and the real capabilities of an industrial company is proposed.

<p>In the past two decades, research on the relationship between corporate social performance (CSP) and corporate financial performance (CFP) has seen considerable growth; however, evidence from Turkey remains scarce, and the results are not uniform. To address this lack, this study investigates the impact of CSP on CFP from the perspective of stakeholder theory. Following the investigation of 47 publicly listed companies from the BIST Corporate Governance Index (XKURY) in the period 2014–2018. The results demonstrate that CSP positively affects CFP in both the short and long term. This study addresses the lack of Turkish experience, and the results indicate that CSP is an intangible resource in corporate strategy that can improve the competitive power of Turkish enterprises. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the positive role of CSP in short-term and long-term CFP in the Turkish context from the stakeholder perspective. The results have implications for Turkish policymakers regarding the rational use of corporate social responsibility (CSR) to promote economic development and insights for Turkish enterprises in terms of gaining stakeholders' trust and improving investors' valuation through the strategic use of CSR to achieve long-term, sustainable development of enterprise competitiveness and finance.</p>

The article analyzes the current situation in the American defense contractor Raytheon Technologies and assesses prospects of business development in view of present short- and long-term trends. As events in Karabachos, Syria, Libya and some other countries showed, today we can see the growing importance of war tools in pursuing foreign policy and it makes research and analysis of military-industrial complex companies more topical. Academic literature pays serious attention mainly to companies of the American military-industrial complex, which can be explained by their impact and leading positions on market. At the same time it should be pointed out that these materials demonstrate summarizing nature and do not deal with concrete and specific matters of such companies. The choice of the company Raytheon Technologies was stipulated by the fact that, due to merger with United Technologies, today it is one of the biggest American companies of the defense-industrial complex. Our analysis can support the idea of the high potential of consolidation of the defense-industrial complex sector in Western countries, which can lead to closure of unprofitable (low profitable) capacities and mass reduction of jobs, as well as degrading of technological and other related competences.

Assessment of competitiveness in different branches of economy still remains to be a problem both in theory and in practice. The earlier introduced models were either too complicated to implement or did not meet the management objectives based on strategic marketing. Competitiveness in the authors’ model is measured by economic indicators, since they enable to assess most accurately the competitiveness of any kind of production. Though the present model is based on the food sector, it may be successfully used in other branches of economy. The results presented in the paper may be applied for developing short- or long-term strategies in the food sector.

Forecasting production and economic indicators of agricultural production is relevant for drawing up long-term plans and programs for the development of the agro-industrial complex at various levels: a region, a municipality, an agricultural producer. This paper describes the created software package that allows predicting the yield of agricultural crops, labor costs for obtaining products, production volumes, financial indicators for the medium and long term. For prognostic purposes, the functions of growth with saturation were used: asymptotic and logistic. The software package has been tested on data from municipal districts and agricultural enterprises of the region. With its help, significant models are determined that make it possible to make forecasts with different lead times, as well as to evaluate prognostic values, taking into account different conditions of agricultural enterprises.

Objective: Approximately one out of five patients with Graves' disease (GD) undergoes a thyroidectomy after a mean period of 18 months of medical treatment. This retrospective and non-randomized study from a teaching hospital compares short- and long-term results of total (TT) and subtotal thyroidectomies (ST) for this disease. Methods: From 1987 to 1997, 94 patients were operated for GD. Thirty-three patients underwent a TT (mostly since 1993) and 61 a ST (keeping 4 to 8 grams of thyroid tissue - mean 6 g). All patients had received propylthiouracil and/or neo-mercazole and were in a euthyroid state at the time of surgery; they also took potassium iodide (lugol) for ten days before surgery. Results: There were no deaths. Transient hypocalcemia (< 3 months) occurred in 32 patients (15 TT and 17 ST) and persistent hypocalcemia in 8 having had TT. Two patients developed transient recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy after ST (< 3 months). After a median follow-up period of seven years (1-15) with five patients lost to follow-up, 41 patients having had a ST are in a hypothyroid state (73%), thirteen are euthyroid (23%), and two suffered recurrent hyperthyroidism, requiring completion of thyroidectomy. All 33 patients having had TT - with follow-ups averaging two years (0.5-8) - are receiving thyroxin substitution. Conclusions: There were no instances of persistent recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy in either group, but persistent hypoparathyroidism occurred more frequently after TT. Long after ST, hypothyroidism developed in nearly three of four cases, whereas euthyroidy was maintained in only one-fourth; recurrent hyperthyroidy was rare.
