Outdoor Activities and Myopia on Junior High School Student in Rural Area of Bali

Introduction and Aims. Refractive errors such as miopia, hyperopia and astigmatism in teenagers are common in Asian country nowadays. Gadget usage also influence the prevalence and incidence of refractive errors specially for miopia and astigmatism. Outdoor activities have positive impact to prevent miopia. The aim of this study is to report the role of outdoor activities as unique school program that could prevent refractive errors in Junior High School in rural area of Bali Method. This is analytic descriptive study with cross sectional approach of 231 Pekutatan II Junior High School students taken in December 2016. This school located in rural area; 35,3 km from Jembarana and 60,5 km from Denpasar, the capital city of Bali. The area of the school is about 1500 m2, where 70% of the land are still vacant to natural habitat and this school had their own garden area that being organized by the students themselves after school hours. This school do not have computer extra curriculum as well. Result. From 231 students there were only 14 students that have refractive errors consist of 5 boys and 9 girls, mostly aged 15 years. Six students (2%) were diagnosed as myopia and 8 students (3.4%) were diagnosed as compound astigmatism myopia. The length of gadget usage in this school were 1.66 hours and outdoor activities time were 4.78 hours per day. The hereditary factors of refractive errors were noted in 12 students (5 %). Outdoor activities associated with refractive errors in this study (p = 0.03). While time using gadget does not have an association with the refractive errors (p = 0.38). Conclusion. Rural area where the outdoor activities are still common have protective effect to prevalence of refractive errors in teenager.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to find out about (1) The level of legal awareness regarding the dangers of smoking for the health of junior and senior high school students (2) Strategies that need to be done to increase legal awareness regarding the dangers of smoking for the health of junior and senior high school students in the capital city of Jakarta. This research is a research using descriptive qualitative. The method of collecting data is through online interviews. Respondents in this study were 13 civic education teachers at the junior and senior high school levels and 10 junior high school students. The data analysis technique uses data reduction, data display and data verification. The results showed (1) The level of legal awareness of students against the dangers of smoking was very good, this can be seen from the majority of students obeying the smoking prohibition rules in schools. Even so, there are still some unscrupulous students who are caught smoking and bringing vapes (e-cigarettes) to school. (2) The strategy that has been carried out by teachers in schools to increase the legal awareness of students regarding the dangers of smoking for the health of junior high and high school students in the capital city of Jakarta is by increasing legal knowledge and awareness of students through repressive, preventive and maximally repressive through learning civic education. ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tentang (1) Tingkat kesadaran hukum terkait bahaya merokok bagi kesehatan siswa-siswi SMP dan SMA di DKI Jakarta dan Banten; (2) Strategi yang perlu dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran hukum terkait bahaya merokok bagi kesehatan siswa-siswi SMP dan SMA di DKI Jakarta dan Banten. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian dengan menggunakan kualitatif deskriptif. Metode pengumpulan data melalui wawancara dan analisis datanya menggunakan reduksi data, display data dan verifikasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) Tingkat kesadaran hukum berlalu lintas peserta didik di Kota Makassar tergolong cukup baik, hal ini terlihat dari mayoritas siswa-siswi mematuhi aturan larangan merokok di sekolah. Meskipun demikian, masih ada beberapa oknum siswa yang ketahuan merokok dan membawa vape (rokok elektrik) ke sekolah. (2) Strategi yang telah dilakukan oleh para guru di sekolah untuk meningkatkan kesadaran hukum peserta didik terkait bahaya merokok bagi kesehatan siswa-siswi SMP dan SMA di DKI Jakarta dan Banten adalah dengan cara meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran hukum para siswa-siswi melalui upaya preemtif, preventif dan represif secara maksimal.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perkembangan kemampuan representasi matematis dan Self Confindece siswa SMP melalui penerapan model Problem Based Learning (PBL). Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Subjek yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dua orang siswa kelas VII. Pengambilan siswa berdasarkan hasil tes dan konsultasi dengan guru. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan tes dan wawancara semi terstruktur. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk memperoleh data kemampuan representasi matematis selama proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran PBL berupa hasil tes individu setiap pertemuan, sedangkan instrumen yang digunakan untuk memperoleh data Self Confidece siswa berupa angket. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan model PBL dapat membantu menumbuhkan perkembangan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa terlihat dari hasil tes individu setiap pertemuan dan hasil wawancara semi terstruktur siswa. Meskipun siswa belum dapat memenuhi semua indikator yang diukur, namun terlihat sebahagian besar siswa telah dapat memenuhi sebahagian besar  indikator representasi matematis yaitu (1) menyajikan data atau informasi dari suatu masalah ke representasi gambar, diagram, grafik atau tabel, (2) menyelesaikan masalah yang melibatkan ekspresi matematis. Hanya satu indikator kemampuan representasi matematis yang tidak terpenuhi yaitu  menuliskan langkah-langkah penyelesaian masalah matematika. Kemampuan Self Confindece siswa mengalami perkembangan secara klasikal dan memiliki dampak positif terhadap kemampuan representasi matematis siswa terhadap proses pembelajaran PBL sesuai dengan indikator Self Confindece. Penelitian ini memberikan gambaran tentang pentingnya melatih siswa menjawab soal non-routin melalui pembelajaran. Tantangan bagi guru untuk membiasakan siswa merepresentasi dan  melakukan langkah-langkah penyelesaian masalah secara sistematis serta memiliki kepercayaan diri dalam menjawab soal. Pembelajaran yang dilaksanakan guru berpengaruh terhadap terbentuknya kebiasaan siswa. Katakunci : kemampuan representasi matematis, self confindece,model PBL This research is to know the development of mathematical representation abilities and self-confidence of junior high school students through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model.This type of research is qualitative research. Data collection was performed using semi-structured tests and interviews.The instrument used to obtain mathematical representation ability data during the learning process by using the PBL learning model in the form of individual test results at each meeting, while the instrument used to obtain students' Self Confidence data in the form of a questionnaire.The results was  showed that learn with the PBL model can help students to grow the development of students 'mathematical representation abilities seen from the results of individual tests at each meeting and the results of students' semi-structured interviews. Although students have not been able to meet all the measured indicators, it appears that most students have been able to meet most of the mathematical representation indicators, namely (1) presenting data or information from a problem to the representation of images, diagrams, graphs or tables, (2) solving problems that involves mathematical expressions. Only one indicator of mathematical representation ability that is not fulfilled is to write steps to solve mathematical problems. The ability of Self Confindece students have developed classically and has a positive impact on the ability of students' mathematical representation of the PBL learning process in accordance with the Self Confindece indicator. This study provides an overview of the importance of training students to answer non-routin problems through learning. The challenge for the teacher is to get the students to represent and take steps to solve problems systematically and have confidence in answering questions. Dance as a form of art is an expression of human feelings expressed by body movements that have undergone processing, sterilization or distortion, which manifests into a natural aesthetic expression. Dance in the world of education, has a positive impact, not only for the preservation of dance, but also for the benefit of education itself. The age of junior high school students ranges from 13 to 15 years and belongs to the early adolescence group, where the transition from childhood to adulthood experiences development of all aspects or functions to enter adulthood. As a successor to the nation, if it is not directed to something positive, it could be that junior high school students will experience the tendency of negative traits as described previously. For this reason, a positive media is needed to build the positive character of middle school students who experience age transition. One of them is dance with its learning can be used as a means of expression, imagination and creativity to foster a rational and emotional balance, intellectual and aesthetic awareness. On the basis of these problems, a community activity program was made "Creative Work Creation PKM in Junior High School 3 Bissapu Bantaeng Regency". The results of these activities produce; (1) Creative Dance adds insight into students' skills in dance, (2) Through this activity students are familiar with dance and know the process of its creation, (3) The creation of creative dance performances based on the movement of the tradition of South Sulawesi.

This article reports on an experimental methods-comparison study, which was undertaken with beginner level junior high school students (aged 12 and 13) in Japan. The study aimed to investigate which type of teaching, Total Physical Response (TPR) or Present Practice Produce (PPP), was more effective in developing productive and receptive knowledge of a set of collocations. Results showed that both types of teaching had a significant impact upon the development of understanding and using the target language. However, there were no significant differences between the effectiveness of TPR and PPP, apart from a short-term benefit for PPP in terms of receptive knowledge. This shows that both types of teaching can have a positive impact upon learners of this age and level and that there is a need for further research to investigate the effectiveness of these communicative methodologies in this context. 本論は日本における初級レベルの中学生(12~13歳)を対象とした実験方法・比較研究を紹介したものである。本研究では、一連の連語の生産的・受容的知識を習得するために、Total Physical Response (TP-身体の動きを通して「聞くことの」の能力を発達させる方法)と、Present Practice Produce (PPP-教師が提示、学習者が練習・産出)のどちらの教授法がより効果的かを調査した。この2つの教授法は学習者の目標言語(英語)の理解や使用に重要な影響を与えるという結果がでた。しかし、受容知識におけるPPPの短期間の利点を除けば、両教授法に有意差はなかった。したがって、この2つの教授法はこの年齢と学習レベルの学習者には肯定的な効果をもたらすことを示しているので、これらのコミュニケーション教授法の効果を調査するさらなる研究が必要になるであろう。

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the engagement of junior high school students in the mathematics learning process measured using an adapted Watson analytical tool. This research is a qualitative study that analyzes video transcripts of a junior high school teacher in West Nusa Tenggara, East Indonesia who are carrying out mathematical teaching on probability.  In this study, the teacher carried out mathematics teaching designed by researchers using the ELPSA (Experience, Language, Pictorial, Symbolic, and Application) framework. The learning process was recorded through a video and then transcribed so that it is easily analyzed. The results showed that the dimensions of student mathematical engagement that emerged during the mathematics learning process were dominated by activities comparing/classifying and justifying/reasoning. These results also have a positive impact that by using the adapted of Watson analytical tool to analyze the learning process of mathematics can help teachers to gain deeper insight into students' mathematical engagement. This technique can be used as a reference by the teacher to further analyze so that better teaching actions can be planned.
