scholarly journals Design of slit loaded Planar and Curved Patch Antenna

Slit loaded circularly polarized patch antenna embedded on planar structure and curvature structure were investigated. The curvature effect on slit loaded patch antenna determines the limiting value of radius of curvature to obtain circular polarization. At a certain radius of curvature (ROC) around 131.3 mm, circular polarization have been obtained with axial ratio band width around 15 MHz and return loss bandwidth around 56 MHz compared with 17 MHz and 65 MHz as that of planar structure. The beam width responsible for coverage of planar patch are 104 and 107 degree with respect to 84 degree and 124 degree of curved patch at phi = 0 and 90 degree respectively

Satellites are very prominent for current and future communication applications like broadcasting, 5G and Military Communications. Most of the Satellites are used for radio communication. For communicating purpose, the satellite antenna must have unique characteristics such as circular polarization, broad beam width and good axial ratio. In order to have such type of unique characteristics, the micro strip patch antenna is the suitable antenna for Satellite applications because of its advantages. In this paper, a Wide band DGS circularly polarized micro strip patch antenna has been proposed for C-Band Satellite Communication Applications. Two defects or slots are introduced in the ground plane and those are orthogonally overlapped to get the circular polarization characteristics. In addition to this, these two slots enhance the bandwidth of the patch antenna by tuned to different frequencies. Moreover, the patch with defective ground structure is simulated and fabricated. Also measurements are carried out and obtained results are compared with the simulated results. It is noted that all the simulated and measured radiation patterns of the antenna have been carried out for all the frequencies and data has been compiled. However, some of the simulated and measured radiation patterns are included in this paper due to space constraint.

AbstractA broadband circularly polarized slotted square patch antenna with horizontal meandered strip (HMS) is presented and studied. The HMS feeding technique provides the good impedance matching and broadside symmetrical radiation patterns. A set of cross asymmetrical slots are etched on the radiating patch to realize the circular polarization. An electrically small stub is added on the edge of the antenna for further improvement in performance. Measured 10-dB impedance bandwidth (IBW) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of the proposed antenna are 32.31 % (3.14–4.35 GHz) and 20.91 % (3.34–4.12 GHz), respectively. The gain of the antenna is varied from 3.5 to 4.86dBi within 3-dB ARBW. Measured results matched well with the simulated results.

In this communication, a circular patch antenna is reported for dual- band operation based on VIAs. Initially the patch is resonating at single band with Linear Polarization (LP), and the Circular Polarization (CP) is obtained by inserting semi circular cuts at the edges of circular patch. The second band is achieved by loading the vertical metallic VIAs along the circumference of the patch antenna. The reported antenna is working at 2.4 GHz (Wi-Fi) and 3.5 GHz (5G) bands with Return Loss Band Width (RLBW) of 4.83% and 10.37% respectively. The Axial Ratio (AR) bandwidth at 5G band is 2.38% (3.31- 3.39 GHz)

A compact single-feed circularly polarized microstrip antenna is proposed to achieve symmetric radiation pattern over a wide range of observation angles. In order to reduce the radiation aperture and consequently broaden the circular polarization (CP) and the half power beamwidth (HPBW) of the antenna, a partially etched superstrate and a conducting cavity are employed in the design. Further, reasonable axial ratio (AR) and impedance bandwidths are realized within the compact structure by using a simple series crossed-slot aperture coupled feeding. As a consequence, the overall dimension of the fabricated prototype is 0.32λ0× 0.32λ0× 0.12λ0at the center operating frequency of 1.56 GHz, and a 3.0% overlapped bandwidth of 10 dB return loss (RL) and 3 dB AR is obtained. Within the bandwidth, symmetric CP radiation pattern over almost the entire upper hemisphere is observed and the HPBW is also increased from 60° to 106°.

This article focuses on designing a single-feed circularly polarized equilateral triangular microstrip patch antenna. The axial ratio bandwidth of the antenna is around 190 MHz. The antenna has been etched at specific locations for achieving circular polarization. The suppression of surface waves is also being focused upon for gain enhancement. The array of cylindrical metallic pins is embedded near the radiating side of the patch antenna. The gain enhancement of around 3.23 dB is observed. The antenna is designed for use in satellite communications.

Microstrip antenna with circular polarization can be applied for many applications. Some microstrip antenna with square, circular, triangular, and hexagonal shape has been designed to get return loss, axial ratio, and radiation performance. We compare twelve microstrip antenna by maintaining its substrate dimension, feeding shape, and outer patch dimension. Even though antenna has a circular patch, it doesn’t always produce circular polarization. From the simulation, we found that with add some structure, the antenna can reach multiband resonance from 1 to 6 GHz. The Circular patch antenna reached seven numbers of the multiband resonance frequency. The hexagonal patch antenna reaches the highest directivity as 9.53 dBi. The circular polarization is achieved for a square and Hexagonal patch shape with axial ratio value is 1.96 dB at 4 GHz and  1.26 dB at 4.1 GHz sequentially at phi 900 and theta 900.

This paper presents a simple and compact coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed circular-shaped reconfigurable patch antenna with a switchable circular polarization (CP) sense. The circular patch is cut at the ends vertically and switches are introduced to connect the patch ends. By controlling the ON/OFF status of the two switches, the polarization of the antenna can be switched between two states: left-hand circular polarization and right-hand circular polarization. The patch is designed on a very thin RT Duroid substrate of dielectric constant (εr) of 2.2 and thickness of 0.254 mm. The overall antenna dimensions are 35 × 30 mm. The antenna is designed and simulated using finite-element method -based EM simulator, HFSS. For each switching condition the return loss curve, radiation pattern are obtained. Axial ratio curves for polarization diversity cases are also plotted. Parametric studies have been made in order to get optimized values for certain antenna dimensions such as thickness, CPW ground to feed gap, etc.

A broadband circularly polarized stacked probe-fed antenna suitable for UHF RFID applications is presented and studied. The proposed antenna is fed by two probes which are connected to a hybrid coupler. Two parasitic patches are stacked above a primary probe-fed patch to enhance the bandwidth of the antenna. The optimized antenna prototype achieves gain of more than 6.5 dBic, axial ratio of less than 3.0 dB, and return loss of less than−15 dB over the UHF band of 820–980 MHz (17.7%). Parametric studies are carried out to demonstrate the effects of antenna geometry parameters on the performance. The proposed antenna can be a good candidate for UHF RFID applications.
