Structural steel has many advantages over other construction materials by its high strength and ductility. It has a higher strength to cost ratio in tension and a slightly lower strength to cost ratio in compression when compared with concrete. This paper is intended to evaluate the beam column rolled and cold formed steel connection experimentally by moment resistant connection such as stiffened, un stiffened and splices connection. At the present, in most of the countries, the use of light gauge cold formed steel section has been developed for economical and best seismic performance by different shape of cross sectional area and various types of connections are used. These results to study the seismic performance of cold form steel sections area using various moment resistance connections. Finally the report result the splice connection has best moment resistance connection, seismic resistant of structures, load carrying capacity is high and minimum weight compare with other types of connections. The splice connection has load carrying capacity is high, so we can reduced the size of section and prevent the base shear due to reduced the weight of structures.

Introduction: Based on the experimental results of cold-formed thin-walled steel lipped channel sections, the uncertainty of calculating mode of load-carrying capacity using effective width method considering distortional buckling for different material types cold-formed steel compressed members was researched, and the uncertainties of material strength and geometric characteristics of the typical sections were statistically analyzed. Methods: According to the recommended resistance of partial coefficient in the draft of Technical code of cold-formed steel structures (GB50018-), the reliability indexes of cold-formed thin-walled steel lipped channel sections under compression were investigated using the improved first-order second-moment method considering different possible external loading combinations. Results: The analyzed results show that, using the recommended resistance partial coefficient in the code draft, the reliability indexes of the compressed members with width-thickness ratio within the limitation of code draft can well met the target reliability index. The suitability of the corresponding calculating modes of load-carrying capacity considering distortional buckling was established.

A centrally reinforced column is a new type of RC columns, formed by providing a reinforcement skeleton at the central part of the cross section of an ordinary RC column. Tests have shown that as compared with an ordinary RC column, this type of columns has a higher load carrying capacity and ductility. From the pushover analysis of a frame composed of ordinary RC columns and one consisting of centrally reinforced columns, their seismic performance under seismic load of 9-degree intensity was studied according to Chinese code, including target displacements, story-level displacements, interstory drifts, appearance and development of plastic hinges. The results indicate that although the dimensions of cross sections of columns in the frame with centrally reinforced columns are smaller than those of the ordinary frame, the former still has a higher overall load carrying capacity and seismic performance than the latter.

Cold formed steel differ from hot rolled steel by its lesser thickness and weight. The cold formed steel applicable in roof purlin, pipe racks and wall panels etc. Due its lesser wall thickness the cold formed steel member subjected to buckling. The enhancement of load carrying capacity of the cold formed steel member can be achieved by external strengthening of CFRP. In this study cold formed channel members connected back to back to form I shaped cross section using screws. These built up beam members were 300mm, 400mm and 500mm in length with 100mm screw spacing and edge distance of 50mm were chosen for testing. CFRP fabric cut according to length, width of built up beams and wrapped outer surface of beam using epoxy resin. Experiments were carried out in two sets firstly plain built up beams and secondly CFRP wrapped beams. The test results shows that increased load carrying capacity and reduction in deflection due to CFRP strengthening. Experimental results were compared with AISI standards which are in good agreement. Experimental results shows that CFRP strengthening is economic and reliable.

The buckling behavior of thin-walled steel structures under load is still imperfectly understood, in spite of much research over the past 50 years. In this paper, the buckling behaviors of H-section columns under compression have been simulated with ANSYS. In the analysis, contact pairs between column ends and end blocks have been introduced into the model, and the load carrying capacity of the columns with four kinds of end constraint conditions and various typical initial geometric imperfections has been calculated and discussed. The results indicate that the load carrying capacity is most sensitive to the flexural imperfection, and the constraint condition cannot change the imperfection sensitivity of a column under compression, but improving restrain condition can heighten the load carrying capacity. They are helpful to the use and the tolerance control in the manufacture process of thin-walled H-section steel structures.

The concept of prestressing steel structures has only recently been widely considered, despite a long and successful history of prestressing concrete members. Several analytical studies of prestressed steel plate girder were reported in the literature, but much of that work was not studied with reference to different parameters like tendon profile, eccentricity, partial span to full span ratio, prestressing force, load carrying capacity etc. associated with prestressing. This paper examines analytically a comparative study of various tendon configurations and prestressing parameters on over all analysis and design of prestressed steel plate girder. The output from the computer Program for analysis and design of steel plate girder prestressed with different tendon configurations are compared among each other. As a Case-study, a prototype model of Prestressed Steel Testing Frame with straight tendon has been designed, constructed and tested in the laboratory for its safe load carrying capacity and maximum deflection.

Cold-formed steel purlin systems with overlapped or sleeved connections are alternatives to continuous two-span systems and exhibit different degrees of continuity. Both connection types are highly favourable in practice since they are both strategically placed over an interior support to provide additional moment resistance and rotational capacity where the corresponding demands are at their largest, thus improving the overall structural efficiency. Until recently, full-scale testing has been the most common way of investigating the structural behaviour of such systems. In this study, numerical modelling, capable of capturing the complex contact interactions and instability phenomena, is employed. The developed finite element models are first validated against data from physical tests on cold-formed steel beams featuring sleeved and overlapped connections that have been previously reported in the literature. Following their validation, the models are employed for parametric studies, based on which the structural behaviour of the examined systems is explored, while the applicability of conventional plastic design as well as of a previously proposed design approach is investigated. Finally, the efficiency of these systems in terms of load-carrying capacity is compared with their equivalent continuous two-span systems.

Shear wall with concrete filled steel tube columns and concealed trusses is a new kind of shear wall. In order to further the seismic performance of the new shear wall, experiment was carried on three 1/5 scale models, which included one traditional RC shear wall, one shear wall with concrete filled steel tube columns, one shear wall with concrete filled steel tube columns and concealed trusses. Based on the experimental study, load-carrying capacity and hysteretic property of each model were analyzed. The study show that the seismic performance of shear wall with concrete filled round steel tube columns and concealed steel trusses has high bearing capacity and good hysteretic property. Load carrying capacity calculation of shear wall with concrete filled steel tube columns and concealed steel trusses were carried out, the calculate results were in good agreement with the measured results.

The seismic performance of the internal connection of precast prestressed concrete frame was studied systematically, based on the experiment of full-scale model under low cyclic reversed loading. This study was mainly focused on failure pattern, load-carrying capacity, skeleton curves, and hysteresis curves. Furthermore, a nonlinear finite element analysis using Abaqus was carried out to study the characteristics of the internal connection of precast prestressed concrete frame. Results revealed that the damage was concentrated mainly on beam end owing to flexural action, while steel bars in the columns and stirrups in the core region remained elastic until failure occurred. The calculated value of the load-carrying capacity of the internal connection was similar to the experimental one. Present study can be referenced for the application of precast prestressed concrete frame in high seismic zones.

This study aims to model and study G+14 RCC building with different geometrical configurations and provision of shear wall at different location for zone IV and V. The various parameters like Lateral displacement, Storey drift, Drift ratio, Base Shear are compared for building models developed by using SAP2000 with and without shear wall. The provision of shear wall in multistoried building in zone V improved lateral load carrying capacity and also other parameters are enhanced in comparison with building in zone IV.

In recent years, in our country are modernized and rebuilt several sections of railway lines, mainly main lines. The greater part is adapted to increased speeds. However, such an adaptation involve the reconstruction or construction of new bridges including steel ones. The paper concerns the executive imperfections of constructions of steel bridges which in recent years have been built in the modernized main railway lines. These imperfections consist of, among others, the geometric imperfections from the assumed construction project. This also applies to defects in welds of various types that occur in critical elements of bridge structure. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the influence of imperfections on the load carrying capacity and fatigue of these structures. Author showed that the observed imperfections have a significant impact on the fatigue life - especially for weld defects, in the case of load carrying capacity their importance is much smaller. These analyses are performed by using the theoretical methods developed in previous reports. In the analysis new standards for the design of steel structures from Eurocodes group were used.
