EXPLORING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TEACHER LEADERSHIP IN LESOTHO HIGH SCHOOLS

Whilst teacher leadership is an evolving concept with a potential that has yet to be realized, the fostering of teachers’ leadership growth remains a sustainability element in education worldwide. Teacher leadership for sustainability indicates a fresh and extended consideration of leadership emphasising sustainability principles and providing leadership that transforms the school environment while engaging in collaborative efforts to do so. Located in the interpretive paradigm, this qualitative study sought to elicit the views of Heads of department (HoDs) and District Education Managers (DEMs) in Lesotho high schools to explore the views they consider most relevant in developing teacher leadership skills to ensure leadership succession as sustainable practice. The findings reveal that to achieve sustainable teacher leadership, there is a need to withdraw from a top-down hierarchical model of leadership towards more flexible, transformative, and empowering approaches to leadership. Furthermore, in order to maintain sustainable teacher leadership, HoDs and DEMs must be innovative in providing reflective plans for professional development that can sustain teachers throughout their careers and foster learning environments that are healthy for teachers, learners, and the school. The study recommends that school leaders should mobilise the leadership expertise of teachers in their schools in order to create more chances for transformation and capacity building. Sustainable teacher leadership can help bring about great improvements in a school, including extending the scope of leadership beyond what the HoDs and DEMs cannot achieve alone, and building their relationship capacity to become collaborative change agents.

For years the teaching of health education has always been a problem in the Nigerian schools either due to the absence of the subject on the curriculum or inadequate professional preparation of teachers to handle it. This study introduces an extracurricular approach using four endemic diseases as an example in the teaching of health education in five secondary schools. The findings revealed that: 1) teachers can be successfully used as informal agents in the school environment if exposed to appropriate health education techniques, and 2) endemic diseases can be controlled through the provision of learning experiences in the school environment where feasible.

Abstract: This article presents a study on management and leadership skills of education managers (principals, vice principals) of high schools in Vietnam in the current time. By clarifying theories of skills and leadership skills, alongside with empricial study to explore the performance of these skills of the principals and vice principals from high schools. Research results have made specific contributions to the development of training programs for managers to contribute to the overall renovation of basic education and training to meet the needs of society.

This paper addresses the critical aspects of women’s political leadership in Pashtun society. The primary questions under investigation are; whether Nasim Wali Khan acquired political leadership skills and if she did, how she utilized these skills to accomplish her political objectives? We intend to see how familial political apprenticeship as well as career progression, enabled Nasim Wali to attain and retain leadership positions successfully? We do so mostly with the help of analyzing primary data collected through in-depth interviews of Nasim Wali Khan, her family members, political workers, journalists, and academicians to comprehend to support our argument. This study highlights the qualities bestowed with and acquired by Nasim Wali Khan to attain a leadership position within a political party. The study argues that by developing her political skills, such as political acumen, eloquence, political   astuteness, efficient   decision   making, confidence, and social astuteness, etc., Nasim Wali auspiciously engraved a political constituency in an otherwise patriarchal Pukhtun population. In such a way the paper explains the critical odyssey of Nasim Wali Khan in the uncertain sphere of politics.

The aim of this research is to reveal the ideas of teachers serving in high schools regarding the factors that affect students’ academic achievement. For this purpose, the aim is to investigate and reveal in depth the thoughts of teachers serving in high schools. The research was designed with the case study type of qualitative research method. The study group of this research consists of 11 female, 9 male branch teachers employed in high schools. The participants’ professional experience ranged from 1 to 13 years. The participant group consisted of 5 Turkish language and literature teachers, 5 mathematics teachers, 3 English teachers, 2 history teachers, 1 biology teacher, 1 information technology teacher, 1 chemistry teacher, 1 physics teacher and 1 physical education teacher. The study group was determined with the criterion sampling type of purposive sampling method. The criteria determined for this research were that teachers should be working in high schools, be branch teachers and be serving in schools in the province and district. According to the research findings family education level effects students’ academic success in terms of academic support, being a role model, concern, intellectual and motivation dimensions; school’s physical conditions effects students’ academic success in terms of learning, motivation and creativity; School Management effects students’ academic success in terms of operation and attitude. School Environment effects students’ academic success in terms of motivation, social effects and socio-economic effects. Teacher effects students’ academic success in terms professional competence, being a role model, communication, attitude, motivation and guidance.

<p>Innovation can be best described as the adoption of an idea or behaviour pertaining to a product, service, device, system, policy or programme that is new to an organization. Many companies nowadays develop and pursue innovative new products as a strategic move to gain competitive share in the market, and many do so by launching new products before competitors moving in. However, to produce innovation effectively, they need support from various operating sections and one of the main sections comes from suppliers. Because managers are always confronted with competitive pressures from newly developed products by rivals, collaborative efforts with experienced suppliers can help companies develope new products more efficiently, especially to cut costs and reduce time to develop new product. Innovative new products from major players in the industry can also have a potential detrimental impact on profitability. To deal with this situation, the authors will discuss how the role of supplier influence can minimize this problem. A model and several propositions are introduced to illustrate potential effects between relavant research variables. First, the relationships between all independent variables (threats to innovation and supplier influence) and new product innovativness were examined. Second, the study assesses whether greater supplier influence would positively moderate the domain relationships. The study advocates that supplier influence is an issue of paramount importance for practitioners in most industries and is an essentail element in the marketing mix that impacts directly on revenue. This study contributes to both theoretical and practical perspectives.</p>

Adolescents with Asperger syndrome (AS) are increasingly being placed in academically focused high schools. These students, although academically able, may not be coping with the wider classroom and social demands of transition to, and within, the high school environment. Schools are keen to enrol these students. However, there appears to be a gap between the rhetoric and the reality relating to the varying perceptions of key stakeholders. In this paper we present the results of a study of the perceptions of key stakeholders in the transition of two students with AS into two academically focused high schools. Eight participants were involved in semistructured, one-on-one interviews. Key stakeholders included executive teachers, classroom teachers, students and their caregivers. The results indicated that there were some differences in the teacher and caregiver perspectives across physical, academic and social areas of transition.

IntroductionHealthcare performance and quality of care have been shown to improve when clinicians actively participate in leadership roles. However, the training for junior doctors in leadership and management is either not formally provided or requires out of programme training. In this article, we discuss how we devised a leadership training programme for junior doctors at our district general hospital and reflections on how it can be implemented elsewhere.MethodsA junior doctors leadership programme was developed involving workshops and guidance through delivery of quality improvement projects. A precourse and postcourse questionnaire assessing preparedness to lead was given to trainees to assess the effectiveness of the course.ResultsUsing a Likert Scale, trainees provided quantitative self-assessment for precourse and postcourse changes in their leadership skills. There was an overall increase in confidence across key areas such as communication, preparing business cases and understating hierarchies of management teams.DiscussionThe structure of this leadership programme has provided the opportunity to address gaps in leadership skills that trainees encounter, without the need to extend training. This programme is easily reproducible and offers other trusts a guide on how to do so.

The balance between economic growth and social wellbeing has been around as a political and managerial challenge for many years, and the concept of sustainability has grown in recognition and importance. The pressure on companies to broaden its economic and sustainability performance reporting and accountability to shareholders has increased. The integration of the concepts of sustainability in projects and project management became very significant. Today modern companies have to implement the principles of sustainability in their operational activities, and this process requires changers including: finance, marketing, manufacturing, communications. Project managers are regarded in organizations as �change agents� who have a strong influence on the sustainability of organizations. Translating the principles of sustainability into strategic and operational reality project managers need to obtain some competencies that provide them with the necessary tools and abilities to manage such important changes and to integrate sustainability standards and ideas into company�s day-to-day operations. However, the standards of project management fail to address the role that project managers play in realizing sustainable development, and project managers are lacking competencies to consider the sustainability aspects of their projects. This �competency gap� of the project manager has appeared in the standards of project management competencies. Many scientific scholars and practitioners are aware of strong importance of engaging sustainability into the modern models of project managers� competencies, to prepare project managers for their pivotal role in realizing sustainability of organizations. The central question of this paper is: Which new competencies should be added to the standards of project management competencies? This paper also reports a literature-based analysis of the coverage of the competencies required for considering sustainability aspects, in the standards of project management competencies. In this article the authors present a review of different scientific approaches to the sustainability competencies of project managers and make an attempt to establish the significance of closing the gap between the set of project managers� competences and the required competencies from the point of sustainability.
