The indiscriminate use of antimicrobials in clinical and surgical routine is an upward reality among veterinarians. The emergence of multiresistant strains is one of the consequences of the irrational use of these drugs, causing an emergency worldwide health problem. By 2050, it is estimated that superbugs will kill about 10 million people worldwide, more than cancer. This paper aims to conduct a literature review on the topic and raise awareness of health professionals about the importance of rationality in the act of choosing the antimicrobial to be used, as well as assess the need or not to use them

Abstract Objective: To analyze the evidence available in the literature on harm reduction actions developed by primary healthcare. Method: Integrative literature review carried out in the databases MEDLINE, CINAHL, SCOPUS, Web of ScienceTM and LILACS. Results: Seventeen (17) primary studies published from 2008 to 2017 were included in this review. Care strategies for harm reduction included maintenance treatment with methadone, therapy with opioid agonists, needle and syringe distribution programs and the creation of rooms for supervised drug consumption. Health professionals were essential for consolidating inclusion strategies, possessing skills to listen without judgment and prejudice. Conclusion: Harm reduction care strategies have been disseminated in different countries and healthcare levels, aiming toward safe practice and quality, effective and risk-free care actions.

This article presents an extended literature review, undertaken to understand the significance of self-compassion for health professionals' wellbeing and its relevance for the health visiting workforce. The review showed that self-compassion reduces compassion fatigue, burnout, anxiety, stress and depression. Further, self-compassionate employees are more compassionate towards colleagues and patients, and compassionate practice enhances staff wellbeing. Organisational support for wellbeing increases staff members' sense of worth, resulting in improved ownership of their own wellbeing, and group interventions in particular foster self-compassionate work cultures. The review concludes that self-compassion enhances staff wellbeing and recommends that all NHS staff should be provided with the tools to prevent compassion fatigue and burnout.

This article proposes a three-factor model of communication competencies inspired in literature review and evaluated and completed by Portuguese health specialists with expertise on health literacy, who were organized into four focus groups (n=25). The study includes a response to the lack of consensus in the literature as to what specific and operative competencies the health professional should perform in clinical encounters with the patients. All the participants in the focus group agreed and reinforced that an aggregated and interdependent model, which is composed of assertiveness, clarity of language, and positivity (ACP model), can be an effective health communication model.

Research suggests that a large proportion of people living with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) are using cannabis to self-manage symptoms, or at least believe there are potential benefits in using this drug. Since community nurses are frontline caregivers, they are likely to encounter PwMS who use cannabis within the home setting. The literature base surrounding this topic is largely driven by quantitative research examining the effectiveness of cannabis as a medicine. This review found that qualitative research exploring the experiences of PwMS who use cannabis is lacking worldwide and is completely absent within UK nursing literature. PwMS using cannabis may not feel safe discussing this with health professionals, as they might fear being judged. This literature review discusses how people perceive the effectiveness of cannabis in helping symptoms associated with MS, while also considering the stigma and legal concerns people face. This review may help community nurses inform their practice and enhance person-centred relationships between them and PwMS.

ObjectiveTo identify generic competences on the desired knowledge, skills and of health professionals in rheumatology (HPRs) to inform the respective EULAR recommendations.MethodsA systematic literature review was performed on the generic core competences (defined as knowledge, skills or attitudes) of HPRs (nurses, physical therapists (PTs) or occupational therapists (OTs)). Literature was obtained from electronic databases, published EULAR recommendations and via personal communication with representatives of national rheumatology societies and experts in the field. Qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods studies were included, and their methodological quality was scored using appropriate instruments.ResultsFrom 766 references reviewed, 79 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Twenty studies addressed competences of multiple HPRs: 15 were of qualitative design, 1 quantitative, 1 mixed-methods, 2 systematic reviews and 1 opinion paper. The methodological quality of most studies was medium to high. Five studies concerned the development of a comprehensive set of competences. Key competences included: basic knowledge of rheumatic diseases, holistic approach to patient management, effective communication with colleagues and patients and provision of education to patients. The proposed competences were confirmed in studies focusing on one or more specific competences, on a rheumatic disease or on a specific profession (nurses, PTs or OTs).ConclusionGeneric competences were identified for HPRs. Data were mostly derived from qualitative studies. All identified studies varied and were at national level, highlighting the need for the harmonisation of HPR competences across Europe. These findings underpin the development of EULAR recommendations for the core competences of HPRs.

Descritores: Revisão de literatura; Prontuário; Eletrônico; Paciente.ABSTRACTReview literature study about the patient electronic handbook aiming at standing out its importance for day-by-day professional’s health, its advantages regard to the traditional handbook, the data standardization necessity, beyond keeping the professional in contact with the patient description, what is sufficiently interesting for the correct accompaniment of the patient/client health. In this study, previously the following research project was used: subject choice and objectives establishment, considering itself it utility and chance for its development; bibliographical survey, phase where the sources had been identified that potentially composed the review; readings inspectional, aiming to identify which the texts had deserved a more intent and deep reading, as well as the order of reading and, finally, establishment and application of reading script.
