Abstract. The development of skills throughout the systematic practice of Physical Education (PE) has become a challenge. This is the reason why the focus of this reasearch is to know the effects of Physical Education on the students' perception regarding the development of generic competences, applying the Questionnaire of Generic Physical Education Competences USM to 961 first year students from differents USM careers in 2017. The questionaire was designed to measure the variable exhaustively, considering four generic competences: teamwork, recreation, kinesthetic intelligence and ethics. These skills are part of the PE course outlines. The results showed that, in the case of the kinesthetic intelligence and ethics generic competences, the p-value was p<0,000. For the teamwork and recreation generic competences, the value was p <0.002.The Questionnaire holds a 95% of confidence and shows significant differences, since the significant p-value is p<0,05 and the obtained value was p<0,000. Therefore, it is concluded that students recognize that PE allow the development of generic skills throughout the systematic practice of physical activity, confirming that physical activity favors the development of generic competences and therefore, and contributes to the integral formation of the student.

In the general framework of designing and implementing an intelligent virtual environment to monitor the development of competences by students, we present the results of an analysis of the generic competences established for the National High School System of Mexico, and the coding of the results in the form of competence maps using a language that can be automatically processed by computers. Specifically, we present a literature review on the computational representation of competencies, a map of generic competencies with subsume/is-a and includes/part-of relationships, and the application of the competences map to identify the presence of generic competences in the design of high school courses in the Virtual University System of the University of Guadalajara.

The purpose was to analyze the learning processes in virtual education in students of a university in Huacho, 2020, where two categories have been considered: virtual education and skills in the context of this health emergency. From the qualitative approach, the population made up of university students was studied and the effectiveness of virtual education was obtained as a result, considered as a means of interaction between students and teachers despite the limitations: internet access, saturation of the university platform and greater teacher training in the use of technological tools. The category of competencies shows the ignorance of students about generic competences and specific competences, for which it is necessary to reinforce virtual education in the accompaniment and training of teachers and students.

An agreement seems to exist that graduates must be equipped with competences required to act successfully and appropriately in a global context. Many authors have proposed lists of competences that could form part of such a graduate profile which must be taken into account when designing internationalized curricula. However, merely listing of a competence does not guarantee that students develop it to the level expected by society. The present article reports on a meta-study based on eight Tuning studies. This meta-study compared the findings across the eight Tuning studies in terms of the different stakeholder groups’ ratings of importance and achievement of 11 global competences – generic competences valued by over 71,000 graduates, employers, students and academics in more than 100 countries and across four continents (Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia). The contribution of the meta-study presented consists in offering a possibility to identify commonalities and differences among the perceptions of the four key stakeholder groups, not only across all the individual studies but also at the level of the four continents – something never accomplished until the present date. In addition, it will help identify the competences that might require particular attention of curriculum designers and teaching teams for students to develop these competences to the level perceived as optimal in different regions of the world. Future research questions are identified with the aim to enrich and validate or fine-tune these initial findings and compensate for the limitations related to the general timeline of the 8 individual Tuning studies that the meta-study built on. Fundamental changes in working life highlight the demands on the co-operation between the educational sector and working life, that should contribute to students’ employability. In addition to discipline-specific expertise, the development of working life skills has received increasing attention when it comes to employment. Drawing on data from Finnish universities of applied sciences (n=5) and universities (n=3), this paper examines how students (n=380) value the generic competences needed in in the world of work. The study is based on European reforms of labour markets and educational structures. This paper adds to current discourses around employability by highlighting differences between students of universities and universities of applied sciences. The implications of this research suggest paying attention to the concepts of agency, expertise and working life skills as outlined in the integrative pedagogy model, as well as emphasising the requirement for soft skills and generic competences needed in working life.

Article visualizations:

Although there is no standardization of the notion of competence and for the instruments used in its evaluation, generic competences are associated with employability, and understood as a composition of cognitive and practical abilities, behavioral and social skills, gathering individual characteristics and qualities required for activities of different professions. Education promotes the development of specific competences for the exercise of certain occupations, in addition to opportunities for increasing generic competences, which are also required in the labor market. This study targets to evaluate self-perception of the valuation of generic competences acquired in undergraduate students from nocturnal courses of Brazilian private university, according to area of knowledge and condition of being or not inserted in the labor market. 1,001 of these students were evaluated in the third year of their graduation, using the Generic Competences Scale. The highest value in the global sample was attributed to Responsibility at work, followed by Ethical commitment and, thirdly, by Capacity to learn. At the other end, of lesser value, were Capacity for organization and planning, Ability to manage information and Problem solving. These results were compared with data from other studies, in Latin America and Europe.
