Ecological analysis of river and canal waters used for irrigation of the north-eastern slope of the Greater Caucasus

The rivers flowing from the north-eastern slope of the Greater Caucasus are among the rivers that flow directly into the Caspian Sea. Sludge, sand, various suspended solids, organic compounds, mineral salts, etc. in river water. both naturally and through irrigation. As a result of multi-year irrigation, agro-irrigation horizons of different thicknesses are formed by the accumulation in the soil of water-derived organic and mineral compounds. Significant changes in the mechanical composition of the soil occur due to the accumulation of materials here. First of all, the amount of small fractional physical activity increases, geophysical and geochemical processes change. The density of the soil increases, the reclamation condition deteriorates, the drainage capacity weakens, and the air and water regime are negatively affected. During the research, the hydrological features of the area rivers, feeding regime, areas irrigated by the rivers, ecological analysis of the river and canal waters and the complex of physical-geographical factors causing it were studied. In the farms of the north-eastern slope of the Greater Caucasus wood raw material obtained from intermediate felling, is not fully utilized and is not effective, due to the organizational and technical difficulties of farms. In addressing these issues in 8 directions of the region with a length of 40-50 km 14 intermediate assembly points were organized, which are intended for the collection and temporary storage of wood raw material harvested within a radius of 15-20 km of the forest. Need to establish assembly points is due to the complexity of relief items and the possibility of year-round use of the main roads of regional importance. To ensure uninterrupted timber industry and in full at the assembly point accumulated wood raw material is partially sorted. Processing of harvested wood raw material is planned for timber industry, located near the central region of the main road in the territory of Cuba town. Establishment in the area of the complex is considered justified, since the resource base in the coming years for intermediate, and later for the main use will be more than 100 thousand hectares of forests in the region. In the proposed area for the industrial complex for processing of raw wood there are all the technical and economic prerequisites. Accumulated in the assembly points wood raw material to the point of processing is transported using self-loading lumber carriers of up to 8 meters length, which is associated with a complex terrain conditions and road network in the region. This complex is planned to organize the following process areas: sawmills, parquet and packaging, small-chip technology, processing of technical greenery. In organizing the production sites size and quality characteristics and volumes of each category of harvested wood raw materials are taking into account, as well as the need for forest products in the region and the country as a whole. In the processes it is envisaged to use the most advanced modular processing of wood with the release of standard lumber, wood workpieces of different products, pulp chips, wood greens and products of its processing.

В статье исследуется связь объектной зоны этнографической науки, народной традиционной культуры и историко-культурного наследия как формы современной актуализации культуры прошлого. В качестве модели этнографического изучения культурного наследия рассматриваются последствия для региональной культуры народов Северного Кавказа деятельности местной трассы Великого шелкового пути самой крупной евразийской трассы эпохи Древности и Средневековья. Основой подхода является представление региональных участков трасс великих путей Евразии как культургеоценозов, сложение культурного наследия в которых имеет как местные корни, так и последствия их включения в большой культургеоценоз Великого шелкового пути. В пределах региональной культуры народов Северного Кавказа такими культургеоценозами признаются части ареалов шелководства и шелкоткачества на Кавказе и крупные ареалы высокогорья (область башенных памятников Большого Кавказа) и предгорий Северного Кавказа (районы, входившие в социально-политическое пространство Великой Черкесии).The article discusses the relationship between folk traditional culture and historical and cultural heritage as a form of contemporary actualization of the culture of the past. The results of the activities of the local route of the Great Silk Road for the regional culture of the peoples of the North Caucasus are regarded as a model for an ethnographic study of cultural heritage. The basis of the approach is the presentation of regional sections of the routes of the great roads of Eurasia as culture geocenoses. The formation of cultural heritage in such culture geocenoses has both local roots and consequences of their inclusion in the large culture geocenosis of the Great Silk Road. Within the regional culture of the peoples of the North Caucasus such geocenoses are parts of the silkgrowing and silkweaving areas of the Caucasus, large areas of high mountains (the area of handicraft sites of mountainous Dagestan and the area of tower monuments of the Greater Caucasus) and the foothills of the North Caucasus (areas included in the sociopolitical space of Great Circassia). Sericulture in the northern part of the Caucasus was the occupation of the population of the forested foothills of the Greater Caucasus, but at the end of the 19th century the population of West Adyg and Abkhaz lands were excluded from this occupation. From the Caspian Sea to Kabarda, inclusive, the craft of weaving womens shawls with silk threads was spread. Printed fabrics and patterned textile materials came to the North Caucasus from the South Caucasian urban centers mainly located near the Caspian Sea. At the same time, part of the population of the region of the NorthEastern Caucasus steadily specialized in the production of silkworm eggs. The internal roads of Dagestan associated with the route of the Great Silk Road have played a historic role in the promotion of stimulating cultural impulses into the economic life of the highlanders. This may explain the concentration of settlements in mountainous Dagestan, whose population specialized in various types of artistic craft. Indirect evidence of the involvement of internal Dagestan in the channels of distribution and accumulation of samples of imported silk in the Caucasus is the socalled phenomenon Kaytag embroidery. The formation of the area of North Caucasian towers is associated with climatic and political changes in the region, characteristic of the final period of its inclusion in the section of the Great Silk Road. The article makes an assumption about the dependence of the genesis of the socioeconomic specifics of Great Circassia on the need to preserve the previous trade relations in the era that followed the cessation of the functioning of the Great Silk Road in the Caucasus.

The article presents materials from the excavation work of the mound 1 from the Egorlyk group. The mound was formed over two burials of the Yamnaya culture of the early Bronze Age era. The only inlet burial was placed in the center of the mound during the transition period from the late Bronze Age to the early Iron Age. The discovery of this monument is significant because it is the first monument of the Bronze Age explored on the north-eastern slope of the Stavropol height, in-between the rivers Egorlyk and Kalaus and bounded from the east by the lake Manych.

The chapter considers the geographical literature of early Seleucid writers. It is argued that the first generation of Seleucid geographers appropriated the eastern regions of the Seleucid Empire with their works, often prioritizing useful political narratives over geographical accuracy. As literature, these works seem inexorably linked to the ambition of the early Seleucid court, especially its desire to assert its dominance over vast and previously unchartered territories. Patrocles, for instance, wrote a description of the coastal regions of the Caspian Sea and the Asian river system, parts of which appear to be pure invention. However, his puzzling claims evoked the image of a world empire stretching as far as the edge of the Ocean, bolstering the prestige of the Seleucids. Another work on the north-eastern regions of the empire, by Demodamas, establishes an image of transcendental rule, an image which he anchors in a specifically Hellenistic view of the succession of empires. Thirdly, Megasthenes used his Indica to convey the idea of imperial domination through knowledge, expressed in a colonial key and backed up by targeted cultural reimaginations and precise measurements. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the challenge to Seleucid geography from Alexandria in the form of Eratosthenes, who overturned the Seleucid knowledge of Asia and India while reflecting a distinctly Ptolemaic view of the world.

Semi-anadromous fish (roach, bream, pike-perch, asp) are the main objects of fishing in the coastal zone of the North-Eastern part of the Caspian Sea. The state of the populations of these fish changes significantly under the influence of natural and, especially, anthropogenic factors, which have increased in recent years. The aim of this work was to study the current state of populations of semi-anadromous fish in the NorthEastern Caspian Sea. Based on the materials of three years of research (2016, 2018, 2020), with the involvement of literary sources, long-term changes in the size-weight and, age indicators, nutritional status of fish and the sex ratio in populations are considered. It has been established that the state of the semi-anadromous fish populations in the North-Eastern Caspian remains tense at the present time. All populations are characterized by general negative patterns of state change. There are tendencies of decrease in size, weight and age indicators, the number of populations and fish catches are decreasing. These changes were least of all manifested in bream (whose state is relatively stable) and were most pronounced in pike perch. The depressive state of the populations is explained by a decrease in the scale of natural reproduction in recent years, due to a decrease in the water content of the Ural River and the number of spawners allowed to spawn on the river. Marine fisheries in the North-Eastern Caspian are concentrated in shallow waters, which increases the fishing load on semi-anadromous fish and prevents their passage to spawning. It is necessary to reduce the pressure of fishing by reducing the number of nets used in the shallow water area of the North-Eastern Caspian and strict observance of the rule of the forbidden pre-estuary space of the river Ural. The article describes the physical-geographical position, geomorphological, geological, climate and hydrological conditions of the North-Eastern slope of the Great Caucasus. The morphogenetic picture of the typical mountain-forest brown, residual calcareous mountain-forest brown, and mountain grey-brown soil profiles is given. The morphogenetic description of the soil resource horizons in the soil profile was performed according to the WRB system. The modern state of agricultural land was comparatively analyzed by examining principal diagnostic indices. The study was confined to Gusar District of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The geographical coordinates of each soil section were determined. The soil formation conditionswere characterized depending on vegetation cover, soil forming rock, slope exposition, and hypsometric level. The soils have been comparatively assessed by humus quality (main indicator of soil fertility), total nitrogen content, pH, calcareous quantity, granulometric composition, and base exchange capacity.

On the north-eastern slope of the Lesser Caucasus, within the boundaries of Shamkir administrative district, the most common soils in the Shamkirchay reservoir basin are gray-brown (chestnut) soils. Since the commissioning of the reservoir, these lands have been intensively used as new irrigated areas under agricultural production. To some extent, non-compliance with planting norms when using irrigation can lead to a decrease in soil fertility parameters, soil degradation, and an increased risk of salinization. The main purpose of the study is to analyze the current state of the main physicochemical and fertility indicators of soils in the basin and the relationship between them in the gray-brown (chestnut) soils spread within the basin boundaries of the reservoir. Diagnostic indicators, agrochemical properties and results of their analysis of soil plots placed in characteristic places were analyzed in tables and explanations. The main indicators are humus, total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, granulometric composition (sand, dust, silt and clay fractions), soil environmental reaction (pH) and carbonate content (CaCO3), statistical analysis. The article has covered studies in dark, conventional and light gray-brown (semi-brown) semi-soils in three sub-areas of gray-brown (chestnut) soils, mainly distributed in the Shamkirchay reservoir. In each of the three subclasses, profiles are set in specific locations. The practical part has been implemented in 2 stages. During the field studies, 9 profiles have been excavated, relevant samples have been taken, and analysis has been performed to determine the diagnostic performance. The results of the analyses have been presented in the respective tables and have been analyzed in detail. All analyses have been carried out on the basis of modern methods.
