Rainfed rice fields are paddy fields whose water sources depend on rainfall without permanent irrigation structures. This study aimed to identify fertility variables that are obstacles in Beringin Subdistrict by evaluating soil fertility status and reviewing management alternatives that are in accordance with the soil fertility status found in rainfed lowland rice fields in several villages in Beringin Subdistrict, Deli Serdang District.This research was a phenomenological qualitative descriptive study with land survey and supported by qualitative laboratory analysis. The taking of soil samples was carried out in the survey area sequentially based on the location of the estimated nature of the soil with the purposive random sampling method. The taking of soil samples was taken in the upper layer at the top soil depth of 0-20 cm, and the coordinates of the point were recorded using GPS.The fertility status of paddy fields in BeringinSubdistrict was classified as high, medium, and low soil fertility status. High soil fertility in P-total soil parameters in all villages, for medium land in K2O parameters in all villages, while for low land status in N-total land parameters in all villages. Prompts for giving urea fertilizer without organic matter as much as 250 kg ha-1, with 5 tons of straw ha-1 adding urea fertilizer as much as 230 kg ha-1 and using 2 tons of manure ha-1 giving urea fertilizer as much as 225 kg ha-1.P fertilization in medium status paddy fields is 75 kg SP-36 ha-1, and high P fertility status is 50 kg ha-1SP-36. K fertilizer application for high soil fertility status is 50 kg ha-1. Prompts for organic fertilizer using compost of rice straw equal to 5 tons ha-1 and or manure 2 tons ha-1. Keywords: Status of N,P,K, Rainfed Rice Field, Beringin District

Rice is a staple food for the Indonesian people and is a national strategic commodity for national food security. Rainfed area is a potential land to support national rice production, by improving soil management through balanced fertilization based on the soil characteristics. This study aims to determine the soil fertility and alternative management implemented in 2019 and 2020 in Sukaraja and Pondok Kelapa sub districts, Bengkulu Province. Soil fertility status for CEC, base saturation, C-organic, total P and total K taken based on the classification of the value of the combination of these chemical properties. The results showed that the soil fertility status of the rainfed rice fields in Sukaraja and Pondok Kelapa sub districts was low. The limiting factors for soil fertility for Sukaraja sub district are alkaline saturation, total K-total and P-total for Pondok Kelapa sub district. The limiting factors are all elements related to nutrient status assessment, namely CEC, base saturation, total P, total K and C-organic. Alternative soil management is carried out in an integrated manner by providing balanced organic and inorganic fertilizers. The provision of soil amendments such as straw compost, manure, biochar and agricultural lime/dolomite, especially for acid reacting soils, aims at increasing soil fertility before fertilization is applied.

Organic materials in situ remaining paddy crops in paddy fields are much abandoned by farmers. Most of the remaining harvested are burned, stacked in the cultivated, or used for animal feed or as a fungus. Straw compost is source of Potassium (K) and Silica (Si). About 80% of K absorbed by plants is in the straw. The return of straw to the soil may slow the impoverishment of Potassium (K) in the soil. This study aims to find out how the availability of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) nutrients by giving organic matter as soil fertility status in paddy fields in Beringin Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency and to review management alternatives that are in accordance with the soil fertility status in the Central Land Rice fields in Beringin Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency. This research was carried out in the Central Rice Field in Beringin Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency ± 11 meters above sea level. The taking of soil samples was taken in the upper layer at the top soil depth of 0-20 cm, 20-40 cm and the coordinates were recorded using GPS (Global Positioning System). While information on land management is obtained by direct observation in the field and in-depth interviews with farmers in snow ball which aims to obtain complete information from farmers. Soil samples that have been taken in the field are then analyzed in the laboratory. Soil chemical properties analyzed in laboratory soil chemical properties analyzed at P2O5 Bray II (ppm) laboratory K2O Hcl 25% (mg / 100g). To determine the chemical properties of soil with certain criteria that have been determined. Based on Technical Guidelines for Evaluation of Soil Fertility The direction of management of soil fertility needs to be added to organic matter and phosphorus fertilization regularly so that soil fertility can be sustainable. Further research is needed in order to find out the addition of phosphorus fertilizer and organic matter in each unit of land.

An investigation was under taken to study the soil fertility status of major nutrients, micronutrients and mapping in Ramasamudram-1 microwatershed of Yadgir taluk and district of Karnataka, India during the year 2019. Total seventy-four grid wise surface soil samples were collected at 320 m grid interval at 0-15 cm depth to assess the soil parameters (texture, pH, EC, OC, available P, K, S, Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and B) and prepare the soil fertility maps through GIS using Kriging method. The results of the study indicated that, the texture of the soil varied from loamy sand to sand clay loam in surface. Soil reaction varied from acidic to neutral with non-saline in nature. The distribution of soil organic carbon (32%), available phosphorous (56%) and potassium (47%) status was found to be medium in most of the area of microwatershed. The available sulphur status was found to be low (57%) in maximum area of the microwatershed. The available zinc status was found to be sufficient (46%) in majority area of the microwatershed. The available copper, iron and manganese status of the soils were sufficient (58%) in entire area. Whereas available boron status was found to be low (57%) in maximum area of the microwatershed. Therefore, the study showed that, the soils of the microwatershed were medium in fertility status. There is need of proper fertilizer recommendation and soil management practices can be made productive thereby, increasing the crop yield.

Soil test-based fertility management is important for sustainable soil management. This study was carried out to determine the soil fertility status of the Agriculture Research Station, Belachapi, Dhanusha, Nepal. Using soil sampling auger 25 soil samples were collected randomly from a depth of 0-20 cm. Soil sampling points were identified using GPS device. Following standard methods adopted by Soil Science Division laboratory, Khumaltar, the collected soil samples were analyzed to find out their texture, pH, N, P2O5, K2O, Ca, Mg, S, B, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn and organic matter status. The soil fertility status maps were made using Arc-GIS 10.1 software. The observed data revealed that soil was grayish brown in colour and sub-angular blocky in structure. The sand, silt and clay content were 36.03±3.66%, 50.32±2.52% and 25.42±2.25%, respectively and categorized as eight different classes of texture. The soil was acidic in pH (5.61±0.14). The available sulphur (0.73±0.09 ppm) status was very low, whereas organic matter (1.34±0.07%), available boron (0.56±0.10 ppm), available zinc (0.54±0.22 ppm) and available copper (0.30±0.01 ppm) were low in status. The extractable potassium (95.52±13.37 ppm) and extractable calcium (1264.8±92.80ppm) exhibited medium in status. In addition, available phosphorus (33.25±6.97 ppm), available magnesium (223.20±23.65 ppm) and available manganese (20.50±2.43 ppm) were high in status. Furthermore, available iron (55.80±8.89 ppm) status was very high. To improve the potentiality of crops (maize, rice, wheat etc.) for studied area, future research strategy should be made based on its soil fertility status.

Abstract BackgroundThe complex nature of the relationship and interaction between LULC and slope gradients resulted in the decline of soil fertility parameters, which aggravate the reduction of sustainable productivity in Ethiopia in general and the study area in particular. This study was aimed to determine the effects of land use land cover and slope gradients on the physicochemical properties of soil in study area A total of 27 composite soil samples were collected from 0-20cm depth under three dominant adjacent LULC across three slope with three replications. The collected soil samples were analyzed for selected soil physicochemical properties. Two-way ANOVA was used to test the mean differences of the soil fertility parameters. ResultThe mean values of soil physicochemical parameters showed that, SOC, TN, AvP, CEC, exchangeable bases (Ca2+ Mg2+, K+, and Na+), PBS, and percentage of clay contents of cultivated land and steep slope gradient (15-30%) were low and significantly different at (P≤0.05) than forest and grad grassland of the same slope gradient.. The gentle slope (3-8%) gradients of the forest lands had the lowest BD and high TP as compared to the others.ConclusionThe overall soil fertility status of the steep slope gradient (15-30%) of cultivated lands is lower than others and cultivating the steep slope is the cause for productivity loss in the study sub-watershed. Therefore, proper land-use planning and the use of integrated soil fertility management strategy give better production and keep the soil fertility status to a better level.

Physiochemical parameters of soil under Shorearobusta forest was estimated to evaluate the soil fertility status and soil quality index in different altitudes of community managed forest of Khairani Municipality Chitwan district Nepal. Altogether 75 soil samples were collected from the forest area at five different depths. Sandy clay loam and sandy loam texture was found in surface and subsurface layer respectively. The mean soil pH of altitudinal strata was 5.57 which is moderately acidic and showed decreasing trend with increasing soil depths. Average bulk density ranged from 1.14 to 1.30 in all attitudes. Organic carbon varied from 0.30 to 1.30% and organic matter ranges from 0.52 to 2.23%. The amount of mean available phosphorus seem low to medium rating in these forest strata. Mean exchangeable potassium varied from 61.89 mg kg-1 to 96.02 mg kg-1 in different altitudes. Most of these soil attributes decreased with the increasing depth. Pearson correlation analysis among the different soil parameters were showed statistically significant at the 0.01 level (2 – tailed) and 0.05 levels (2 - tailed).One way ANOVA of the studied soil parameters in different altitudes observed that they were statistically significant at 0.05 level (p ≤ 0.05). The overall soil fertility status of the Kankali Community Forest is low to medium. An average SQI was found 0.55 (fair) up to 120 cm depths,slightly decreased with increasing soil depths. Regulation of Leaf litter collection and adoption of appropriate silvicultural operation may help to increase the fertility status and site quality of Kankali community forest.

A study was conducted in the rice zone of Morang district to examine soil fertility status and the most limiting nutrient in the research area in accordance with rice cultivation requirements. Hundred samples were collected from two different locations of Ratuwamai Municipality ward number 6 and 8 at depth of 0-15 cm from surface soil. Samples were analyzed to find texture, pH, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium and Soil Organic Matter (SOM). Statistical tools were used to analyze the data. The most limiting nutrient in rice fields were determined by comparing the observed value with the standard requirement for rice fields. From analysis, it was revealed that, nitrogen content was found medium. Phosphorus was low in ward 6 whereas medium in ward 8. Potassium was high in ward 8 whereas medium in ward 6. SOM was low due to less application of organic fertilizer. Majority sample were of acidic probably due to more use of urea. Thirty percent samples of ward 8 were neutral and with equal alkalinity in both wards. Majority of sample was sandy loam except in ward 8 where ten percent sample was clayey loam. Both wards show equal behavior of loamy soil. Nutshell, majority of samples were of low fertility. Nitrogen and Potassium was most limiting as per the rice cultivation requirement with optimum soil pH. Various extension works regarding the importance of soil fertility management, sustainable soil management, optimum application of organic and inorganic fertilizers and the techniques to enhance the soil fertility status is required.

Nganjuk Regency is a potential agricultural granary. Results fields and plantations is one supporting the needs of farms and plantations in East Java in particular and Java in general. Agricultural production in Nganjuk Regency often experiences fluctuating phases, one of which is due to drought. Assessment of soil fertility for land suitability evaluation into one of the efforts in mitigating drought in Nganjuk. This soil fertility assessment is carried out by taking soil samples based on the unit of land maps (SPL). Unit of land maps obtained from the overlay of base maps such as soil type maps, land use maps, topographic maps and administrative maps Nganjuk. The results of the laboratory analysis of soil samples subsequently analyzed and interpreted to obtain: 1) soil fertility status in Nganjuk; 2) determine suitability class; 3) determine the characteristics of an influential land for the development of food crops and plantations; 4) obtain recommendations or technologies efforts in tackling drought in Nganjuk.

Tree cropping has been known to bring about changes in edaphic component among other components of the ecosystem through their interactions with the soil and soil faunas. Premised on this, this study assessed the effects of sole cropping of teak and intercropping of cocoa and kola on the soil fertility status. The study was carried out using stratified-randomed sampling technique for the study plots in all the sampling sites. Three sampling sites consisting of four (4)-4oo m2 sampling plots each were established in which vegetation and some soil parameters were assessed. Results analysis showed that the synergistic interaction of leaves decomposition of cocoa and kola improved the organic matter content of the soil under the cocoa/kola site. Considerable improvement in soil fertility was enjoyed in the cocoa/kola site due to the large girth sizes and basal area of trees present in the cocoa/kola site while soil under the sole cropping of teak was impoverished. The degradation effects was due to the high rate of nutrient uptake of the teak, organic matter content was high in the forest site (9.12%) and cocoa/kola site (7.34) while the least was in the teak site (3.04%). A very strong correlation existed between organic matter content and some vegetation parameters.

Aims: The present study was conducted to investigate the changes in soil fertility status with the application of zinc and biofertilizers in hybrid rice and chickpea. Study Design: The design taken for study was Randomized Block Design (RBD). Place and Duration of Study: Students Instructional Farm, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, between July 2018 – July – 2020. Methodology: The experiment included twelve treatment groups replicated three times in Randomized Block Design. Results: Soil parameters were also influenced with the application of zinc and biofertilizer. The available nitrogen varied between 192 to 223 kg ha-1 and 191 to 222 kg ha-1 at after harvest during first and second year in case of rice crop. The available phosphorus in case of rice was varied between 11.82 to 11.88 kg ha-1 at before harvest and 11.75 to 13.65 kg ha-1 at after harvest during first year. In case of available potassium it varied from 169 to 173 kg ha-1 at before harvest of the crop and 169 to 185 kg ha-1 at after harvest during first year. Similarly, significant increase in sulphur and zinc was also observed with application of zinc and biofertilizers. The available nitrogen, phosphorus potassium, sulphur and zinc were analysed numerically highest with the application T7 (100 per cent RDN + 25 per cent N FYM + S40 + ZnO + *Azotobacter or **Rhizobium) as compared to control at before and after harvest the crop during both the years that is 2018-19 and 2019-20.  Similar trend was seen in case of chickpea crop.            Conclusion: Therefore, the combination of micronutrients and biofertilizers, proved beneficial, indicating to use balanced fertilizers to get maximum benefit and maintaining soil health in rice-chickpea cropping system for the farmers of Central Uttar Pradesh conditions.
