The African Aerospace and Defence military expo is held biannually in South Africa and is classified as the biggest military expo (event) on the African continent. This study sought to determine the effects that travel motives, and life domains have on visitors’ quality-of-life. The study followed a convenience sampling technique, with fieldworkers administrating the measuring battery to visitors at the African Aerospace and Defence military expo. Data was gathered from 293 visitors regarding their travel motives, life domains, life domains overall, and quality-of-life. A structural equation modelling analysis indicated a positive linear relationship between the visitors’ travel motives, life domains (social life, leisure life, and self-life), life domains overall, and quality-of-life; all of which attained good composite reliabilities. The findings indicate that travel motives have an influence on visitors’ life domains, positive and negative, relevant to their perceived importance. Overall, a visit to this military expo had a positive effect on visitors’ quality-of-life. Managerial recommendations include maximising the uniqueness and novelty of the event, which cannot be done generically. Digital marketing should be aimed at certain lifestyle aspects that are most appealing to visitors, such as social, leisure, or military life. The approach would likely appeal to the higher-order needs of potential visitors, which could contribute to their overall life satisfaction. This research contributes to the literature and methodology in tourism, positive psychology, and quality-of-life.

This study aimed to establish the effects that travel motives and life domains have on visitors’ quality-of-life. Based on the setting, a convenience sampling technique was used in which fieldworkers administered the questionnaire to visitors at Comic Con Africa 2019. Data from 433 (N) completed questionnaires were captured regarding their travel motives, life domains, life domains overall, and quality-of-life affect, and analysed. A structural equation modelling analysis indicated a positive linear relationship between the visitors’ travel motives, life domains measured, life domains overall, and quality-of-life; all of which attained good composite reliabilities. The findings indicate that travel motives have an influence on visitors’ life domains, positive and negative, relevant to their perceived importance. Overall, a visit to this pop culture event had a positive effect on visitors’ quality-of-life. Based on the visitor demographics, social media marketing should be aimed at niche lifestyle aspects that are most enticing to visitor’s pop culture life. The approach would most likely appeal to the markets’ higher-order needs, which could increase visitor numbers and help improve their quality-of-life overall. This research opened the door to the new pop culture life domain, and contributes to the literature and methodology in tourism, life domains and quality-of-life.

This study proposes a model to investigate the relationship between residents’ perception of tourism’s impact on their quality of life (QoL) and their emotional solidarity toward tourists. The social exchange theory was used as a framework to explain the relationship, and structural equation modeling to assess the hypothesized model. Data for this study were obtained from survey responses of 407 residents in Macau, China, characterized by an intense tourism activity in a small territory. Results indicate that residents’ perception of tourism’s impact on four life domains (material, community, emotional, and health and safety) influences their satisfaction with the corresponding life domains. However, these domains only partially contribute to their overall satisfaction with QoL. Moreover, overall satisfaction with QoL revealed to be a significant predictor of residents’ emotional solidarity toward tourists. The findings indicate the importance of considering QoL in examining residents’ attitudes toward tourists. Implications and opportunities for further research are proposed.

Work-family conflicts are mostly experienced by multiple roles women because they experience an imbalance in carrying out demands at work and in the family. This will affect the satisfaction of multiple roles women who experience negative impacts that will lower their quality of life. However, different results were obtained, where the relationship between work-family conflict and quality of life was declared not strong enough, therefore, this study used stress as a mediator variable. Work-family conflict can cause stress in multiple roles women, so it will affect the quality of life. Therefore, this study aims to look at the role of work-family conflict on the quality of life with stress as a mediator. The population in this study were female employees in Ministry X who were married and had children. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling and also continued through convenience sampling technique. The number of samples in this study were 183b employees who were multiple roles women. This study used three measuring instruments, namely the Multdimensional Scale of Work-Family Conflict, World Health Organizational Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF), and also the general stress scale. Model testing was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using LISREL 8.70. The results of the model testing show that stress can act as a mediator with p-value of <0.05, and RMSEA of <0.08, and can partially mediate work-family conflicts with quality of life. The result of the standardized solution value for the role of work-family conflict on quality of life decreased from -0.66, to -0.83. In other words, these results indicate that individuals who experience work-family conflict, when experiencing stress, will have lower quality of life.
