The paper considers ways to improve the efficiency of combined power supply systems for remote facilities based on renewable energy sources. The developed circuit solution for the combined power supply of remote facilities based on mini-hydroelectric power plants, GT and thermoelectric generators installed on the boiler's gas outlet pipe will allow redistributing energy between consumers inside the facility or storing it in the electrochemical storage system during the period of minimum consumption.

Power supply systems for small businesses based on renewable energy sources are most often based on converting wind energy, solar energy and water energy. Calculating its effectiveness is a time-consuming task, requiring the processing of a large amount of data specific for the geographical location of power generating units. In the article the technique of computer modeling of work of a park of wind power plants (WPP) with the purpose of definition of an optimum parity of their parameters is considered.

A detailed substantiation of the use of electric energy storage devices in the presence of generators on renewable energy sources in the power supply system is given. The dependence of the storage parameters on the composition and priority of generation in the system is investigated. The solution of the problem of determining the parameters of electricity storage devices by means of purposeful simulation of generation parameters is considered. The results of the choice of power and capacity of the energy storage using technical and economic indicators are shown. Optimal parameters of electric energy storage devices as one of the most important means of ensuring the activity of isolated power supply systems together with selection of generating devices are determined. The results of calculations of capacity of renewable energy sources in isolated power supply systems in combination with classical energy sources are given. The necessity of using the principle of activity of the distribution electric network and the possibility of its realization is demonstrated. The optimal storage capacity as a function of the share of renewable generation, the non-integrated energy produced by renewable sources and the total storage capacity are plotted for several isolated systems. The main points of the used model of the power supply system of isolated networks are given. In the studied isolated power supply systems, wind power plants and solar power plants, which have significant unpredictability of generation, are used as generation based on renewable energy sources. The problem of undersupply of electricity to the grid by stepwise increase of generation is analysed. The results of the multi-step selection of power and energy consumption of electricity storage are determined by technical criteria.

The paper presents the analysis of different types of impact the hydroelectric power plants’ reservoirs could make on the environment. Hydroelectric power plants (HPP) produce ecologically safe energy and correspond to the modern striving for sustainability because they are operated on renewable energy sources. At the same time they can provoke various potential dangers for the environment. The objective of the investigation is to demonstrate the interrelation between the type and structure of a hydroelectric power plant and the way its reservoir may impact on the nature surrounding the plant. These effects may be direct and indirect, positive and negative and vary from insignificant that can be easily fixed to those that are irreversible and catastrophic. The latter should be taken into account during the design of HPP.

Environment – a set of components of the natural environment, natural and natural-anthropogenic objects, as well as anthropogenic objects. When carrying out any construction work, it is necessary to assess the impact of emissions of pollutants on the environment. One of the features of the energy sector at the beginning of the 21st century is the strict regulation of its further development with the requirements of preserving a favorable environment and preventing global pollution. This determines the trend towards an increasing role of renewable energy sources and, first of all, the most efficient hydropower. In the world, small energy began to develop in recent decades, this is mainly due to the desire to avoid environmental damage caused by reservoirs of large hydroelectric power plants, with the ability to guarantee energy supply in isolated and inaccessible areas. The creation of small hydroelectric power plants instead of small power plants operating on fossil fuels leads to a significant improvement in the air basin. This article provides an assessment of the ecological state of the territory from the point of view of the possibility of construction of the object and a preliminary qualitative forecast of possible changes in the environment during the implementation of the planned construction works and its negative consequences. Based on the analysis of the initial state of the environment and the forecast of its resistance to man-made impacts, the assessment of the possible impact of the construction object on the environment in accordance with the requirements for environmental documentation was carried out.

The paper considers the problems of designing autonomous power supply systems using the renewable energy resources. The efficiency of using energy resources in conditions of growing prices for electricity brings significant saving of both energy and financial factors. The analyses show that the main losses of energy resources are the result of inefficient use, distribution and consumption of electrical energy. There has been stated one of the most important problems of energy saving: many existing consumers are located at a significant distance from centralized power supply systems. Today connecting such consumers to large power grids is economically inexpedient. These facilities are supplied from the stand-alone power plants. According to the program of energy saving and energy efficiency improvement of FGC UES, PJSC, reducing electricity consumption for auxiliary needs of transformer substations is one of the main mechanisms for the program implementation.

Generating electricity using Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is taking over more and more shares in the global market of energy production. This results from global energy policy which is closely related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emission and environmental pollution as well as to reducing consumption of fossil fuels. The constantly increasing number of producers of electricity from RES, such as Hydroelectric Power Plants and Small Hydroelectric Power Plants, gives an impulse for carrying out work on the development and improvement of their operation. It forces continuous work on development of technical diagnostics methods which allow to detect faults at an early stage and even, using properly designed systems, to prevent them or minimize their effects. The main task of the diagnostics and control systems is to identify any symptoms of inaccurate device operation. Next, to modify the algorithm so that the device is introduced to the area of correct operation. Detecting a defect at its initial phase gives opportunities to plan and prepare for the repair of the device. Using appropriate diagnostic methods helps to minimize the costs of major repairs and overhauls of machines and maintain the work efficiency at the desired level. This article presents selected diagnostic methods used in Hydropower Plants.
