t. Based on statistical data, the article analyzes the transformation of the migration movement of the population of the Krasnodar Territory in the context of natural decline and a pandemic of coronavirus infection. It is shown that in the region, as well as in Russia as a whole, there is a deterioration in demographic development. Due to the excess of the death rate over the birth rate in the region, the natural population decline resumed in 2017, the volume of which increased 8.5 times by 2020. The demographic indicators worsened especially noticeably in 2020, primarily in relation to the mortality rate of the population, the level of which has sharply increased. Despite the deteriorating demographic situation, the number of residents of the Kuban continued to increase, while in the Russian Federation in recent years the absolute population began to decline. An analysis of the components of population change showed that the determining factor in the increase in the number of Kuban residents was migration gain, which not only compensated for the natural decline in the population, but also ensured an increase in the number of inhabitants of the region. It was revealed that significant changes took place in the migration movement of the Krasnodar Territory in the analyzed period: the intensity of migration processes has noticeably decreased, and in recent years, the volume of net migration has also decreased. The region’s contribution to the total migration gains of the Southern Federal District has significantly decreased - in 2020 the region’s share in the total migration growth of the district amounted to only 31.6% versus 78.9% in 2017. The decrease in the volume of net migration was mainly due to a decrease in the number of arrivals to the region, which is not least due to quarantine measures to combat the pandemic

The article examines the interaction of subjects of a two-level hierarchical system. An industrial enterprise discharges wastewater into the river as a result of its work. To prevent the ingress of a large amount of pollutants, water treatment facilities have been installed, the operation of which is regulated by the level of technical support. The state allocates funds to support the activities of the enterprise and regulates the standards for the discharge of pollutants. The interests of both subjects are to maximize their target functional. The article is devoted to the problem of finding optimal control in a mathematical model of water quality management in a dynamic system. Examples of calculations for specific parameters are given. Based on the examples given, we can draw conclusions about the influence of parameters on the system. The type of the emitted substance has the greatest influence on the system, namely the values of such parameters as the initial concentration and the coefficient of non-conservativeness. With long-term interaction, the speed of self-cleaning of the river plays a significant role. At a low level of self-purification of the river, the concentration of substances in the river almost reaches the maximum permissible level. The deterioration of the environmental situation leads to losses on the part of the Host. The reverse situation allows us to continue cooperation in the future, while receiving a greater gain. Also, the winnings of the subjects significantly depend on the volume of investments.

Variation of the snow cover extent and the dates of the beginning and end of its formation in Western Siberia (WS) for the fall-winter season was analyzed. We used the NOAA satellite data on the snow cover extent in Northern Hemisphere and data from meteorological stations from the RIHMI-WDC dataset. An increase of the interannual variation of the dates of the beginning and end of the snow cover formation was obtained. For the northern WS territories and territories located on significant heights, a later onset of snow cover is shown in the NOAA data compared to stations observations. Using the ERAInterim reanalysis and NOAA data, we also analyzed the features of the atmospheric modes of variability and wave activity, which are manifested for the anomalously rapid snow cover formation in the WS. The results obtained indicate the insignificance of the influence of the anomalies in the rate of the WS snow cover extent increase. We also suggest that the snow cover formation anomalies are a consequence of the atmospheric state anomalies on a hemispheric scale.

Water resources are one of the most important problems of our time. Population growth, industrial and agricultural development all over the world entail an ever-increasing demand for clean fresh water. These circumstances induce hydrologists to actively and thoroughly study the problem of studying water resources, changing their quantitative and qualitative characteristics in time and space, and the peculiarities of changes in the water regime of river runoff under conditions of climatic changes. In this work, we performed a retrospective analysis and assessment of changes in the water content of the Upper Don basin over a long 126-year period of hydrometric observational data (1881/1882–2006/2007). To study the change in the water content of the Upper Don River, we used the difference integral curves of the annual and seasonal (spring flood, summerautumn and winter low-water periods) runoff. Regularities of long-term cyclical fluctuations in the water content of the annual and seasonal runoff of the Upper Don are obtained. A retrospective analysis of long-term data of hydrometric observations made it possible to distinguish long phases of high-water, medium-water-content and low-water years on the differential integral curves of river runoff. Each phase, which is long in terms of water content, contains groups of years of shorter duration, for example, 2–3-year and 4–5-year phases of increased and decreased water content in a river. The analysis of the differential integral curves of the annual and seasonal runoff made it possible to establish that the long-term fluctuations in the annual runoff of the Upper Don are rhythmic, in contrast to the runoff of the spring flood, summer-autumn and winter low-water periods, which are characterized by a monotonic regime.

t. Theoretical approaches to the sustainable development of cities and towns in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation are considered. As such approaches, the concept of a «green» smart city, the concept of thermal stress in an Arctic city, the concept of a «winter city», the concept of an Arctic base city, the concept of developing coastal Arctic settlements based on the principles of the blue economy (the economy of marine nature management and coastal zones), the concept of ensuring the vital activity of Arctic cities, etc. are analyzed. In addition, the contribution of Arctic cities to environmental pollution and climate change, socio-economic and demographic development of the Arctic zone is analyzed. The development of Arctic cities, especially single-industry towns and settlements is considered in the context of the Republic of Karelia, the Murmansk, Arkhangelsk Regions, the Komi Republic, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The main directions of sustainable development of Arctic cities and towns are substantiated from the point of view of achieving the target indicators of the “Strategy for the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and ensuring national security for the period up to 2035”.

The article considers the results of studying the features of Sr distribution in rocks of various ages and composition and soils of landscapes of the Black Sea coast of Russia (in the humus horizon and soil profile). The content of elements in the studied soils is compared with the regional background for the soils of the North Caucasus. A direct relationship between the content of the element in soils and underlying rocks, as well as the influence of technogenesis on the processes of accumulation and removal of the element in the soils of agricultural landscapes, has been revealed. The results of a comprehensive study of the south of Russia became the basis for studying the peculiarities of the distribution of Sr landscapes of the Black Sea coast of Russia. To establish the main parameters of the distribution of chemical elements in rocks and soils of various landscapes and the region as a whole, to identify geochemical features of geographical and technogenic differentiation, to assess the impact of various types of environmental management on changes in the geochemical spectrum of soils, to determine the influence of landscape-forming factors on the migration of chemical elements and the formation of geochemical barriers. The highest concentration of Sr was observed in carbonate-terrigenous rocks of the Paleogene and Cretaceous ages (marls and limestones). In the humus horizon of soils, the average metal concentrations vary in the range from 13.0∙10–3 to 95.0∙10–3 % with a regional clark of 22.0∙10–3 %.

The paper presents the results of diatom analysis of surface bottom sediments selected with a range of 20 years. Samples of surface sediments of the Sea of Azov collected in 1998 (before the salinization period) and in 2019 were studied. The results of the diatom analysis of the bottom sediments showed that the sediments were dominated by spores of diatoms from the genus Chaetoceros and stomatocysts of golden algae. In addition to spores and stomatocysts, diatoms from the genus Thalassiosira sp., Coscinodiscus sp., Ditylum brightwellii, Pseudosolenia calcar-avis and Thalassionema nitzschioides were often found in the surface soils of 1998. In the sediments selected in 2019, medium – and large-sized taxa (Actinoptychus senarius, Actinocyclus octonarius, Thalassiosira sp., Coscinodiscus sp.) began to predominate in frequency of occurrence and abundance. The appearance of these species can be associated with an increase in the average salinity of the waters of the Sea of Azov, since most of the representatives of the above taxa belong to marine and brackish-water-marine species. A decrease in freshwater runoff and an increase in salinity in the Sea of Azov can lead not only to a radical transformation of the native microalgae community, but also increases the risk of alien marine species of plankton and benthos. Large-sized diatoms are less attractive as a food base for zooplankton, which can also lead to changes in the native biota of the Sea of Azov. In general, these dangerous transformations can lead to a sharp decrease in the stability of the ecosystem of the Sea of Azov and irreversible consequences.

The composition of metabolites in various types of biolayering on the marble surface in natural outcrops and in an urban environment has been studied. Metabolomic profiling was performed by gas chromatographymass spectrometry. It was found that biolayering in the urban environment is much less diverse biochemically than in anthropogenically undisturbed conditions. The differences in metabolomic data were significantly greater between sampling sites than between community types. Lithobiontic communities of organisms are an interesting and promising for bioindication and biomonitoring of the environment.

The paper raises the question: is there a connection between infrastructure security, population density, the level of economic activity expressed in terms of the volume of output, production and services in the context of municipalities of the Rostov region. The models of the spatial lag SAR and the spatial error SEM were tested. For both regressants – population density and volume of output – SAR turned out to be the best model for all types of distance matrices under consideration. The results showed that currently there is an imbalance in the development of Rostov’s municipalities. The Rostov agglomeration “pulls” the population from the outskirts of the region, which leads to an unbalanced development of territories. The low level of infrastructure provision in the Eastern and South-Eastern municipalities of the region is a deterrent to the development of territories and slows down the pace of their socio-economic development. In order to reduce the differentiation of the regional space in terms of population, level of life quality in municipalities, furthermore it is crucial to carry out comprehensive work on the creation and further development of infrastructure facilities that meet modern requirements.
