In the present world with the growing demand of electricity the quality of voltage becoming a vital problem. Voltage swell is one of the short term voltage disturbances that occur frequently in power distribution system. Voltage swell characterization is an important, because power quality analysis, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and mitigation policy could be carried out only after characterizing the voltage swells. The magnitude, duration, and phase-angle jump are the essential characteristics of voltage swell are considered in this work. In this paper, MATLAB/SIMULINK with SimPower System is used to simulate the proposed system to show the comparative performance of significant characteristics of voltage swells under power distribution system fault, energizing a capacitor bank and sudden switching off a heavy linear and nonlinear load.

Тoday the term «biohacking» is used in two main meanings. First, as a part of «garage science» movement, whose members experiment in home laboratories with self-created required equipment. Secondly, as the human enhancement practices aimed at improving the quality of life and the struggle for immortality. In the article, we show the integrity of these two seemingly unrelated aspects. For this purpose we use Fuller's post-truth concept, which allows us to analyze biohacking in the context of the more general processes of science democratization and the ongoing changes in the knowledge and power distribution system. The article refers to the conceptual metaphors of lions and foxes, which traditionally distinguish two types of elites. According to this division we consider biohackers as «fox strategists». Lion's conservatism implies status quo maintaining of order power/knowledge apportionment. The foxes try to change the order by questioning the «rules of the game». We demonstrate the joining of do-it-yourself ideology and «care of the self» principles by the case of biohackers interaction at the reddit.com forum, and its section dealing with transcranial direct current stimulation devices. The analysis of this case allows to identify biohackers strategies for academic science boundaries eroding, especially, science and non-science boundaries, individual scientific disciplines and «national sciences». Authors conclude that biohackers can be considered as philosophers of science. In this framework their practices of «personal science» and precedents creating represent the process of rethinking both the essence of science and its rules.

Whenever the delivered power is greater than the sum of the registered power at points of common coupling (PCC) the utility will have losses. This paper will show that even in an ideal case, without any abuse of users, the losses occur due to inadequate measurement equipment and to deficient billing policy. Namely, common household power meters register only active energy, while power meters for industrial applications register reactive energy as well. Consequently, the billing policy is based only at one or both values. This approach does not follow the change of the end-user load profile that becomes very nonlinear. Actually, the current trough nonlinear load deviates from sine waveform causing that a part of the delivered power remains invisible for the power distribution system. Therefore, the utility registers significant economic losses. To solve this problem we recommend distortion power to be measured and included into the billing policy. It has not been the case so far because the electric power community has not been aware of the amount of the distortion power in the contemporary grid. Besides, power meters have not been able to measure it. This paper demonstrates how to overcome the obstacle with a minor modification of ordinary electronic power meters. The proposed solution is verified by a set of measurements on different types of loads that are commonly used in households and offices.

Voltage sag and voltage swell are frequently occurred power quality problems in present power distribution system, which are cause more problems to avoid these problems and maintain constant voltage at sensitive load during sag and swell Dynamic voltage restorer gives solution .we propose self-supported DVR, to minimize the cost by preventing external dc source in DVR, it is controlled by SRF PI control along with an inner current loop to stabilize the system and outer voltage loop to increase the system robustness. The proposed model provides fast voltage restoration for a short and long duration of voltage sags and swells manage wide load current variation for short and long voltage disturbances. In this paper, we present the effectiveness of the proposed method by using MATLAB/simulation results. A laboratory prototype DVR is modelled and we are using CCS studio to interface DSPTMS320F28027F

AbstractThis paper is focused on increasing the power quality of Unique Macaroni factory, located in Bahir Dar Town. Necessary data have been collected from the factory and the collected data are analysed. Based on the analysis of data, it is found that the factory working power factor is low and hovering around 0.7125. Voltage variations are up to 9.09%, average voltage unbalance is 2.2% and total harmonic distortion (THD) of load currents and voltage are 24.17% and 10.16%, respectively. Harmonic components have existed in the power distribution system of the factory. Based on the analysis of power quality problem in the factory, distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) and its control system have been designed to boost power quality of the factory and the results are obtained by generating simulations using Matlab software. It is observed from outputs of the Matlab simulations that DSTATCOM can improve the power quality of the factory. Generally, the shape of the waveform of load voltage and current is improved and THD level of load voltage is minimised to 1.55% and load current THD level is 7.09%. The reactive power needed by the loads (442 kVAr) is almost provided by the DSTATCOM, so reactive power from source supply is very small such as 22 kVAr so that the power factor of the source tends to unity.
