AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine the effect of scenario-based learning (SBL) compared to traditional demonstration method on the development of patient safety behavior in first year nursing students. During the 2016–2017 academic year, the Fundamentals of Nursing course curriculum contained the teaching of demonstration method (n=168). In the academic year 2017–2018 was performed with SBL method in the same context (n=183). Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) that assesses the same three skills was implemented in both academic terms to provide standardization so that students could evaluated in terms of patient safety competency. It was found that students’ performance of some of the steps assessed were not consistently between the demonstration and SBL methods across the three skills. There was a statistically significant difference between demonstration method and SBL method for students’ performing the skill steps related to patient safety in intramuscular injection (p<0.05) Our results suggest that the integration of SBL into the nursing skills training may be used as a method of teaching in order to the development of patient safety skills.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to understand and interpret the meanings of preceptorship, as it shows itself to the students of an Undergraduate Nursing course. METHOD: In this study, a qualitative research was used, in the phenomenological modality. Eight students undergoing preceptorships were interviewed, the subjects of this study, with the guiding question: "What is a preceptorship for you?" RESULTS: After the analysis of the descriptions, the following thematic categories emerged: approximation, coexistence, education and orientation. CONCLUSIONS: Preceptorship was shown to be an educative action, referring to a situationality that unfolds in three dimensions: personal, citizenship and professional. From this construction, always unfinished, it was necessary to reflect about the education of the nurse.

Learning evaluation using ubiquitous-based tests may be essential during a public health crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, during which theoretical classes and clinical practice are conducted online. However, students may not be as familiar with ubiquitous-based tests as they are with paper-based tests. This survey study aimed to evaluate students’ satisfaction with ubiquitous-based tests and compare the evaluation results of a paper-based test with that of a ubiquitous-based test in nursing education. For the midterm exam of the Women’s Health Nursing course, a paper-based test was conducted, while a ubiquitous-based test using a tablet computer was used for the final exam. The Ubiquitous-Based Test Usefulness and Satisfaction tool, which has a five-point Likert-type response scale, was employed to evaluate the post-test usefulness and satisfaction scores of the ubiquitous-based test. The mean score of the ubiquitous-based test usefulness was 4.01 ± 0.67. There was a significant difference in satisfaction levels between the ubiquitous-based and the paper-based test (t = −3.36, p = 0.001). Specifically, the evaluation scores were not affected by different evaluation methods. Study participants deemed the ubiquitous-based test highly useful and satisfactory, suggesting that such tests may be a future-oriented evaluation method, potentially replacing paper-based tests.
