The increase of urban traffic demands has directly affected some large cities that are now dealing with more serious urban rail transit congestion. In order to ensure the travel efficiency of passengers and improve the service level of urban rail transit, we proposed a multi-line collaborative passenger flow control model for urban rail transit networks. The model constructed here is based on passenger flow characteristics and congestion propagation rules. Considering the passenger demand constraints, as well as section transport and station capacity constraints, a linear programming model is established with the aim of minimizing total delayed time of passengers and minimizing control intensities at each station. The network constructed by Line 2, Line 6 and Line 8 of the Beijing metro is the study case used in this research to analyze control stations, control durations and control intensities. The results show that the number of delayed passengers is significantly reduced and the average flow control ratio is relatively balanced at each station, which indicates that the model can effectively relieve congestion and provide quantitative references for urban rail transit operators to come up with new and more effective passenger flow control measures.

As the major distributing center and intermediate transit point, the scale of transfer station in urban rail transit system directly affects the operational efficiency and overall cost of the entire system. So, accurately controlling the scale of transfer station becomes one of the most important aspects in improving service level and reducing the overall project cost. On the basis of summarizing the method on determining the scale of transfer station both home and abroad, the paper describes the role of the various facilities in rail transfer station, and illustrates the problems of our rail transfer station. Following the above discussion and investigation, the sizes of typical transfer station facilities are discussed and improved (e.g. vertical elevator). Taking the Longjiang Street station example, the proposed methods and models are verified and the analysis result shows that this transfer station should be cross platform interchange mode.

With the acceleration of urbanization and the shortage of transportation resources in large cities, urban rail transit has gradually become the backbone of urban public transportation system. In order to improve the service level of urban rail transit, this paper studies the factors influencing the service level of subway station passages and the classification method based on the passenger-perception method. Through investigation and research, the passage service level evaluation indicators (width, walking time, per capita area, illumination intensity and guide signage) have been determined. Based on orthogonal experiment, 3ds max was used to set up 25 passage scenes with different parameters from passengers' perspective. A passenger satisfaction questionnaire was designed and distributed, the reliability and validity of the questionnaire were tested to ensure the validity of the data. And based on the factor analysis method, the factors affecting passenger perception are analyzed. A well-fitting model of the relationship between passenger scores and passage parameters is established, and the passenger scores are converted into service levels. Finally, a service level classification method is given, which can provide reference for the service level evaluation of existing stations and the design of physical attributes and environmental factors of new station passages.

Urban rail transit (URT) system plays a significant role in daily commuting. The main features of URT could be abstracted into two kinds of networks, topological network and transit network. The correlation between topological network and transit network could represent the service level of transportation which is also a main focus to some extent. In this study, static analysis based on one year or single analysis based on one aspect are abundant, the main reason of which is the deficiency of the consistent demand data. In this regard, a comprehensive analysis of the evolution and their correlation of the two network are carried out in this work. We first revisit the topological evolution of rail network on the basis of URT network statistic indicators with a fifty-year time span. Then, based on the traditional node-place model, a correctional node-place model between demand spatial distribution and closeness centrality is established. Pearson correlation coefficient is also employed for a precise analysis. Finally, the application of the model and the corresponding analysis on Beijing Subway System (BSS) examine and evaluate the development level and service level of URT system in Beijing, and some solid evidence for relative decision-making is provided.

Urban rail transit plays a role of activating and leading regional economic development. It influences the spatial distribution of urban agglomeration and the progress of regional economic integration. It is a kind of virtuously cycled interactive relationship between regional economic development and regional rail transit. This paper analyzes the effect of urban rail transit construction project on regional economy based on the economic benefits arisen from it. The research results show that China’s urban rail transit construction and regional economy can not realize balanced development unless the fact that the relationship between urban rail transit planning and regional economic development can be well coordinated, and meanwhile, the construction scale and service level of different phases of rail transit can be confirmed according to urban economic development level.

The conceptual introduction of the service network and its function in passenger flow assignment are given. Based on the summary of the related research results, the service networks are divided into two classes as the matrix type and the network type according to the different construction methods. The modeling principles and methods of the network type service network are then proposed. The methods are explained in three aspects including node modeling, segment (or arc) modeling, and partial network modeling, which can, for a certain physical network and a certain line plan, construct the virtual service network that is required by the passenger flow assignment process. Corresponding modifications are required when using these methods in specific researches.

Urban rail transit hub platform is the most important area for passenger flow distribution. In order to calculate passenger flow volume in platform and evaluate platform service level during rush hours, this paper presents a method for modeling and simulation of passenger flow distribution in platform. Passenger flow distribution model (PFDM) is proposed based on the basic analysis and the superposition principle of passenger flow. Simulation design for PFDM is proposed by Anylogic, which contains simulation process and simulation model. Experiment results show that PFDM and simulation design are effective and accordant with the reality scenario, and the simulation precision is comparatively ideal. This research could provide a beneficial reference for train scheduling and operation management under the viewpoint of traffic safety and service level.
