Twelve species are recorded for the first time from the Altai Republic, Russia, based on the materials collected by authors in the vicinity of the northern part of Lake Teletskoye in the southern taiga of Western Siberia. Nabis (Dolichonabis) americolimbatus (Carayon, 1961) is recorded for the first time for the Western Siberia. Seven species, Pachycoleus pusillimus (J. Sahlberg, 1870) (and family Dipsocoridae Dohrn, 1859), Saldula orthochila (Fieber, 1859), Xylocoris cursitans (Fallén, 1807), Acalypta carinata (Panzer, 1806), Empicoris vagabundus (Linnaeus, 1758), Drymus brunneus (R.F. Sahlberg, 1848), Scolopostethus thomsoni Reuter, 1875 are recorded for the first time from the Russian Altai. Four species are recorded for the first time from the Altai Republic – Phytocoris longipennis Flor, 1861, Nysius helveticus (Herrich-Shaeffer, 1850), Kleidocerys resedae resedae (Panzer, 1797), Cymus glandicolor Hahn, 1832. For each species the general distribution, the detailed distribution in the adjacent territories of Siberia, and the data on the biotopic confinement are provided. In addition, the data on the abundance and ecology of some other rare species are provided.

The paper provides information on the distribution of 45 species of Heteroptera from 10 families in the Kurai steppe in the southeast of the Russian Altai (Altai Republic). Of these, Mimula scutellaris Kiritshenko, 1931 recorded for the first time for the fauna of Russia and Bagrada stolida (Herrich-Schaeffer, 1839) — for Siberia. Following 15 species are recorded as new for the Altai Republic: Nabis punctatus mimoferus Hsiao, 1964 (Nabidae); Deraeocoris ventralis ventralis Reuter, 1904, Apolygus nigronasutus (Stål, 1858), Lygidea illota (Stål, 1858), Lygus rugulipennis Poppus, 1911, Lygus wagneri Remane, 1955, Globiceps fulvicollis Jakovlev, 1877, Psallus betuleti (Fallén, 1807) (Miridae); Neides propinquus Horváth, 1901 (Berytidae); Ortholomus punctipennis (Herrich-Schaeffer, 1838), Kleidocerys resedae resedae (Panzer, 1797), Cymus glandicolor Hahn, 1832, Xanthochilus quadratus (Fabricius, 1798) (Lygaeidae); Myrmus calcaratus Reuter, 1891 (Rhopalidae); Sciocoris abbreviatus (Reuter, 1879) (Pentatomidae).

The fauna of the rivers of the north of Western Siberia that do not belong to the Ob’ River basin is of particular interest from the point of view of zoogeography and understanding of the processes of formation of the freshwater malacofauna. Starting in the taiga zone, these rivers flow north and cannot serve as a way of interzonal dispersal of species from lower latitudes. However, information about the fresh-water malacofauna of these river basins is poorly presented in the scientific literature, some of the published species findings are doubtful or erroneous. The gastropod mollusks of the family Valvatidae of the Taz river basin (Western Siberia) are considered. The basin is located closer to the Yenisei than to the Ob’ River basin. The study was based on original authors’ material represented by both qualitative and quantitative samples. It has been found that eight species of mollusks of the genus Valvata occurs in the water reservoirs and streams of the Taz basin, an annotated list of species is presented, and a brief zoogeographic characteristic is given. Three species (Valvata helicoidea, V. sorensis and V. korotnevi) are for the first time recorded from the basin, one of them (V. korotnevi) is for the first time recorded from the Western Siberia waterbodies.

New locations of 25 rare species of mosses, known earlier in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District from one or a few locations, are provided. Their ecology, phytocenotic affinity and peculiarities of the distribution on the territory of the autonomous district and taiga zone of the Western Siberia as a whole are discussed. A high proportion of rare species in the moss flora of the central part of the taiga zone of Western Siberia resulted from limited distribution or absence of suitable habitats associated with stony substrates and outcrops of groundwater rich in mineral nutrition elements, as well as from intermediate (ecotone) position of the flora on the latitudinal bioclimatic gradient from south to north.

This work deals with six species of oribatid mites recovered from a sedge-moss bog (Carex–Eriophorum–Sphagnum association), located in the south of Western Siberia, Russia. Two species, Banksinoma exobothridialis and Banksinoma longisetosa (Thyrisomidae) are new to the fauna of Russia. This finding is interesting in regards to the biogeography and the habitat ecology of both species. Two other relatively rare species of Trhypochthoniidae have been found: Mainothrus badius, which is recorded for the first time in Asia; and Trhypochthonius nigricans, recorded for the first time in Western Siberia. In addition, Holarctic species Suctobelbella palustris (Suctobelbidae) and Limnozetes ciliatus (Limnozetidae) are reported with supplementary descriptions and illustrations. In this article, we discuss the distribution and habitat ecology of each of the above species.

Gelechia omelkoi sp. nov. is described from the Ukok plateau and South Chuisky ridge in the Altai Mountains of Russia. The adult of the new species, including its male genitalia, is illustrated and compared with species most similar in morphology and DNA barcodes—G. sororculella (Hübner, 1817) and G. jakovlevi Krulikovsky, 1905 from the Palaearctic region, as well as G. mandella Busck, 1904 from Canada. This last species is redescribed based on adult specimens, including the genitalia of both sexes, and a lectotype is designated. Gelechia sirotina Omelko, 1986 is recorded from the Altai Republic for the first time. An updated list of six species of Gelechia from the Altai Mountains of Russia is given. Dorsal habitus photographs of all species are provided. The male genitalia of the lectotype of G. jakovlevi is illustrated for the first time.

The data on locations, habitats and vegetation season of 205 species agaricoid basidiomycetes new for the Karakol natural park UchEnmek (Altai Republic) are presented. They were collected in the steppe, forest, forest-steppe and highland belts. Among them 32 species are recorded for the first time for Altai Republic, 6 species are rare in Altai Republic and Western Siberia.

Sophronia salaganella Šumpich & Bidzilya, sp. n., is described based on specimens collected in the mountains of the Altai Republic and Buryatia in Russia. The new species is most similar to S. illustrella (Hübner, 1796) and S. orientalis Li & Zheng, 1998 from which it can be reliably distinguished by characters of the genitalia. Sophronia iciculata Omelko, 1999, syn. n., is a junior synonym of S. orientalis; and S. marginella Toll, 1936, syn. n., is a junior synonym of S. consanguinella Herrich-Schaffer, [1854]. Sophronia alaicella Caradja, 1920 is redescribed, and the adult and the male and female genitalia are illustrated. Sophronia illustrella (Hübner, 1796) is recorded from Russia for the first time. A checklist of Sophronia Hübner, [1825] of the world is provided.
