First records of Ceutorhynchus turbatus Schultze, 1903 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) from Novosibirsk Oblast (Western Siberia, Russia) and Eastern Kazakhstan

The first records of Ceutorhynchus turbatus Schultze, 1903 (Curculionidae, Conoderinae, Ceutorhynchitae, Ceutorhynchini) from Western Siberia (Novosibirsk Oblast) and Eastern Kazakhstan (East Kazakhstan Region) are given. They are the most north-eastern and south-eastern finds of this species. A key for identifying species from Ceutorhynchus parvulus-group is presented.

The Noctuidae fauna of Kazakhstan is species-rich and still poorly studied. During a lepidopterological expedition to Almaty Region in the south-eastern part of Kazakhstan, a single female of an unknown Noctuidae species belonging to the subfamily Oncocnemidinae was collected by the senior author of the present paper. The species resembles externally members of the genus Lophoterges Hampson, 1906, especially Lophoterges fatua (Püngeler, 1904), but examination of its genitalia structure revealed that the species is not only undescribed and remarkably different from all known Lophoterges species, but belongs to another genus, Epimecia Guenée, 1839. Up to date, the genus Epimecia was considered as monotypic (Ronkay & Ronkay 1995; Kononenko 2016) and included only Epimecia ustula (Freyer, 1835), which is widely but disjunctively distributed from south-eastern France through the southern Alps, the Balkans, Turkey, Ukraine, southern European part of Russia and western Kazakhstan to southern Ural, north-eastern Kazakhstan and southern Siberia (Ronkay & Ronkay 1995; Kononenko 2016; Titov et al. 2017). The second, peculiar Kazakhstan species of the genus is described below as new.

AbstractPreviously unrecognized species of the genus Hymenolepis are described based on specimens from spalacid and murid (Murinae) rodents. Hymenolepis rymzhanovi sp. nov. from the Siberian zokor, Myospalax myospalax (Laxmann), from East Kazakhstan, and H. apodemi sp. nov. from Eurasian field mice, Apodemus peninsulae (Thomas), A. uralensis (Pallas) and A. agrarius (Pallas), from the south of Russian Far East, western Siberia and south-eastern Kazakhstan are characterized. The new species differ from other species of the genus by the morphology of the scolex, the relative position and length of the cirrus-sac and the relative position and arrangement of the testes. Differential criteria of species of Hymenolepis (sensu stricto) are also discussed.

The Charyn River is located in South-East Kazakhstan, 195 km east of Almaty. The river valley cuts through Paleozoic rocks and loose sandy-clay deposits of the Cenozoic and forms amazingly beautiful canyons, the so-called "Valley of Castles". This place is actively visited by tourists from all over the world. However, Charyn canyons have not only tourist but also scientific value. Deposits with fossil fauna and flora are exposed here, and there is evidence of unique tectonic processes that took place in this area. Years of research have made it possible to describe in detail the stratigraphy of the region and outline new tourism routes that open up unknown pages in the history of South-Eastern Kazakhstan.

New material on a rare species Silaum saxatilis (Umbelliferae) from southern limit of the Dzungarian Alatau (South-Eastern Kazakhstan) allowed to describe the structure of its fruits. The species is assigned to a distinct monotypic genus Tschulaktavia, the generic name was proposed by M. S. Bajtenov and validated here. Another speciens described by Bajtenov, Stenotaenia iliensis, is synonymized with Hyalolaena tshuiliensis. The genus Stenotaenia does not occus in Kazakhstan and the Middle Asia. 658

AbstractAn overview is presented of gemstones from eastern Kazakhstan in terms of their geographical distribution, geological provenance and genesis, gemmological characteristics, historical use and current applications. Locally occurring precious, semi-precious and decorative stones were extracted and traded along the northern part of the Silk Road that traversed the area in earlier historical times. Currently, non-metallic minerals, which largely originate from mafic igneous and metamorphic bodies of the Altay and Kalba Mountains of Kazakhstan, still are insufficiently known and exploited industrially only marginally. For the present study, selected depositories of coloured stones at the Mineralogy Museum of the East Kazakhstan State Technical University were used, supplemented by the newly collected material during personal fieldwork in the southern Altay between 2005 and 2015. Standard documentation of the gemstones selected is provided, alongside with their known occurrence sites and an evaluation of the perspective gemstone-bearing deposits with respect to regional morphostructural bedrock characteristics. The most precious gemstones include topaz, corundum (sapphire and ruby), beryl (emerald and aquamarine), coloured tourmalines, agates as well as diamonds. Despite the great variety, the majority of these traditionally most valued stones are currently commercially not viable, unlike high-quality decorative stones.
