The excavation of a shallow buried tunnel may cause stress redistribution in surrounding rock, and cause deformation, damage, and even destruction of adjacent underground pipelines. The land part of the Haicang undersea tunnel in Xiamen of China was a super shallow buried large span double-arch tunnel. Its construction was restricted by both underground excavation safe and adjacent pipeline protection. Multiple groups of working conditions were designed considering the relative position of pipe and tunnel, pipeline and tunnel construction parameters. Numerical simulation was used to study the influence of pipeline horizontal distance, buried depth, pipeline diameter, pipeline wall thickness, pipeline shape, pipeline material and excavation method on the response of adjacent underground pipelines. The results show that the relative position of pipe and tunnel, and the construction method of the double-arch tunnel have a great influence on pipeline deformation. Pipeline material, pipeline diameter and excavation method have a great influence on pipeline stress. The construction method was the key factor affecting the stress and deformation of the pipeline. The three-step reserved core soil method can effectively control the stress and deformation of underground pipelines. The research results can provide a reference for similar projects.

Abstract This article analyzes the relationship between the relative position of an ethnic group, as measured by its majority/minority status at a subnational level, and attitudes of its members toward immigrants of different origins. Based on the Russian case, it addresses the question whether the effects of in-group majority status within a region on attitudes toward the general category of immigrants hold regardless of out-group origin and, if not, what may drive this variation. Using data from the Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey of the Higher School of Economics and Bayesian hierarchical structural equation modeling, the study demonstrates that the relative position of an ethnic in-group is of varying importance as a predictor of attitudes toward migrant groups of European versus non-European origin in Russia. A group’s majority status within a region proved to play a role in predicting attitudes toward migrants originating from the “south” (encompassing North and South Caucasus; Central Asia; and China, Vietnam, and Korea) but not toward migrants coming from the “west” (Ukraine and Moldova). We draw on arguments related to the source and the level of threat induced by the out-groups, ethnic hierarchies, and group cues to explain this pattern of results.

Abstract We studied 6 sections of the Arydzhangsky lava formation (P2-T1) in the Kotuy river valley. The results of petrographic and geochemical studies of the composition of rocks of the Arydzhangsky, Khardaksky and Pravoboyarsky formations are presented. The stratigraphic columns of the sections were built and the composition of the rocks was additionally determined using a scanning electron microscope. In this regard, the relative position of these formations was established, the mantle and crust sources of magmas were confirmed. A geochemical identity of the rocks of the Khardaksky formation with the rocks of the Arydzhangsky formation was established, which suggests a similar age of their formation.

Abstract The specific properties of tubular and fullerenlike silicon nanoparticles depend on theirs electronic structure, which is directly related to the surface geometry. Using density functional approach, a novel dual nature of the surface structure of silicon nanotubes which depends on the type of nanotube have been revevaled. The rippled form of the surface has shown to be a favorable one for (n, n) type structure and the most stable form for (n, 0) Si NT is the nanotube with a smooth-walled graphene-like surface. The phenomenon is explained by the relative position of the non-hybridized p orbitals on the surface.

Abstract In 1969, after a series of large-scale border clashes, the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Soviet Union finally decided to enter negotiations to prevent a wider military confrontation. The de-escalation process that ensued gave Soviet and Chinese leaders two options: either to compromise and reach a settlement or to go back to a strategy of delay. This article shows that the choice between the two options depended on whether either state believed it could improve its relative position in a better political environment or could gain certain political advantage by immediately settling the dispute. Ultimately, both sides chose to return to a strategy of delay. The Chinese decision was influenced by the strategic configuration of U.S. “triangular” diplomacy and the hope that it would enhance the PRC's relative position. For Soviet officials, the outcome stemmed from a lack of trust in their Chinese counterparts.

In this article, we analyze the difference (inhomogeneity) of the roughness values measured on a nonalloy carbon steel surface milled with a parallelogram-shaped (κr = 90°) insert as a function of the the tool movement direction and the relative position of the examining points on the workpiece surface. The characteristic distribution of roughness and the magnitude of the deviations were examined by measuring at selected points along several planes on a surface characterized by the movement conditions of the workpiece and the symmetrically arranged tool perpendicular to the machined surface, which formed double milling marks. The selected points mark the lines with specified inclinations with respect to the feed direction, and their measured values were compared. In these directions, the magnitude of the difference in roughness measures was obtained.

In this study, we developed a system for calculating the relative position and angle between a mobile robot and a marker using information such as the size of the marker of the internal camera of the mobile robot. Using this information, the mobile robot runs autonomously along the path given by the placement of the marker. In addition, we provide a control system that can follow a trajectory using information obtained by recognizing the mobile robot when reflected in an external camera using deep learning. The proposed method can easily achieve autonomous path travel control for mobile robots in environments where GPS cannot be received. The effectiveness of the proposed system is demonstrated under several actual experiments.

Abstract A significant reduction in the levels of general ship vibrations can be achieved by using vibration isolators with a “floating” section of zero stiffness in vibration protection suspensions. In such devices, in parallel to the main elastic element, the so-called stiffness corrector (compensator) is switched on - a device with a negative coefficient of static stiffness, equipped with a restructuring system that ensures the retention of the corrector elements when the relative position of the vibrating and protected objects, caused by a change in static forces acting on these objects. One of the variants of the corrector is an electromagnetic stiffness corrector, in which the power characteristic with a negative stiffness coefficient is provided by two electromagnets with a common armature turned on in opposite directions. The disadvantage of such correctors is the dependence of their overall dimensions on the value of the permissible relative displacement of the vibrating and protected objects. The article deduced mathematical expressions that approximately determine the dependence of the overall dimensions of the stiffness corrector electromagnets on the value of the calculated relative displacement of the vibrating and protected objects, the possible field of application of vibration isolators Xwith electromagnetic stiffness correctors is determined.
