The Charyn River is located in South-East Kazakhstan, 195 km east of Almaty. The river valley cuts through Paleozoic rocks and loose sandy-clay deposits of the Cenozoic and forms amazingly beautiful canyons, the so-called "Valley of Castles". This place is actively visited by tourists from all over the world. However, Charyn canyons have not only tourist but also scientific value. Deposits with fossil fauna and flora are exposed here, and there is evidence of unique tectonic processes that took place in this area. Years of research have made it possible to describe in detail the stratigraphy of the region and outline new tourism routes that open up unknown pages in the history of South-Eastern Kazakhstan.

The article has three goals. The first is to present the history of research on Polish dialectal phrasematics. In particular, attention was paid to the last five years, i.e. the period 2015–2020. The works in question were ordered according to the dialectological key, taking into account the following dialects: Greater Polish, Masovian, Silesian, Lesser Polish, and the North and South-Eastern dialects. The second goal is to indicate the methodologies that have so far been used to describe dialectal phrasematics. Initially, component analysis was used, which was part of the structuralist research trend, later (more or less from the late 1980s) the ethnolinguistic approach, especially the description of the linguistic picture of the world, began to dominate. The third goal of the article is to provide perspectives. The author once again (as he did it in his earlier works) postulates the preparation of a dictionary of Polish dialectal phrasematics.

The rooks composing the earth's crust contain a history and represent time—a history of changes numerous, varied, and important: changes in the distribution of land and water; in the thermal conditions of the world; and in the character of the organic tribes which have successively peopled it. The time required for these mutations must have been vast beyond human comprehension, requiring, for its expression, units of a higher order than years or centuries. In the existing state of our knowledge it is impossible to convert geological into astronomical time: it is at present, and perhaps always will be, beyond our power to determine how many rotations on its axis, or how many revolutions round the sun the earth made between any two recognised and well-marked events in its geological history. Nevertheless it is possible, and eminently convenient, to break up geological time into great periods: it must not be supposed, however, that such periods are necessarily equal in chronological, organic, or lithological value; or separated from one another by broadly marked lines of demarcation; or that either their commencements or terminations in different and widely separated districts were strictly synchronous. One of the terms in the chronological series of the geologist is known as the Devonian, that which preceeded it the Silurian, and the succeeding one the Carboniferous period; and these, with some others of less importance, belong to the Palæozoic or ancient-life epoch, or group of periods.

It is somewhat remarkable that, just as physicists are assuring geologists that the latter will have to quicken their forces, so as to bring the geological history of the globe within the definite limits assigned by the physicists themselves, the geologists reply by adding several thousand feet more rock in various parts of the world to the already thick column of sediment, and many would assure us that these ‘Archœan’ rocks were produced in a manner similar to the fossiliferous rocks, from which they differ in such important particulars.

The article examines the events associated with the murder of the governor of Galicia Andrzej Potoсky by lviv student Miroslav Sochinsky, and the process of his support by the Ukrainian population around the world. The source for researching the events connected with the history of Miroslav is the American magazine „Svoboda”, in which the events of the case were published in detail and actively. The magazine took an active part in supporting and defending M. Sochi in various ways. Numerous articles in „Svoboda” from 1908 to 1916 covered the thoughts of the American and European press, which was sympathetic to the student's act, and noted the deep internal political reasons that pushed the young man to risk his life for the sake of change. The magazine describes in detail the 46 chambers that were advertised on the front pages of Svoboda, about the distribution of petitions for pardon, which changed Miroslav's sentence from death to twenty years in prison, the activities of foundations that raised money for Miroslav, and so on. The conclusions indicate the scientific value of the American magazine „Svoboda” in studying the history of the aftermath of the assassination of Count A. Potocki and the process of unification of all concerned Ukrainians around the world, and the further formation of political views in the early twentieth century.

The subject of this research is the problem of interpretation of continuity and novelty in carrying out historical-philosophical and problematic-theoretical reconstructions of legal doctrines of the past and modernity. The absence of due knowledge on the origin, history of acquisition and application of theoretical ideas of the past often leads to significant modifications, distortions and loss of historical linkage within the legal picture of the world. The repetition of legal ideas and theoretical constructs of the past is natural, but firstly it can and should be viewed as a methodological prerequisite for searching of approaches and means to substantiate the interests to certain aspects of law, and secondly, for ensuring scientific value of modern research, it must be clarified not by the conventionality of scientific knowledge, but based on the reconstruction of origin, application and valid meaning and designation of ideas. The methodology leans on the comparative analysis of legal ideas of the past and modernity in synchronic and diachronic angle. The novelty of the conducted research consists in interpretation of the problem of novelty in legal science based on the requirement for preservation of continuity in terms of their historical-philosophical and problematic-theoretical reconstruction. At the same time, such requirement reveals in a number of specific reconstructions and examples of utilization of methodological approaches for their conduct.

The article highlights the events that took place on the eve and during the elections to the Sejm, county councils, and the Vienna State Council, which lasted for three years from 1895 to 1897. It is established that illegal actions and violent events of the three-year elections influenced the political „awakening” of Ukrainians in Galicia. The American magazine „Liberty” is a source for studying political protests, the history of electoral events, and the formation of politically conscious views. The magazine was founded in 1893 in Jersey by Ukrainian emigrants from Galicia. The magazine's articles covered events from all over the world, from Ukraine, introduced the reader to science, supported the patriotic spirit. The headings of the magazine entitled „About elections in Galicia” and „News from the old land” provide an opportunity to study in detail the course of events related to the elections on the basis of the stories and actions of different segments of the population. The events described in the texts introduce different views on the purpose of elections and different means of achieving results. The „Liberty” pages detail each election year and some of the key events that resonated in Europe and America. The consequences of electoral events are described, reviews of foreign states that reacted to violations of the constitutional rights of Galicians. The conclusions indicate the scientific value of the rubrics, which helps to investigate the process and results of three-year elections; further influence on the development of politically conscious protest, and takes an honorable place in the further study of the development of the politically conscious movement of the Ukrainian population at the end of the XIX – beginning. XX centuries.

IntroductionThe theme of this session covers a very wide spectrum of deposits and processes. The thirteen papers submitted from all over the world, together with several from other sessions which also relate to this theme, describe numerous deposits and processes - mostly the former. Some of the processes which influence the geotechnical properties and behaviour of soils are listed in Table 1. This is a reminder of the importance of fully appreciating the geological history of a site when planning and undertaking construction projects. The papers can be conveniently divided into four groups under the general headings Tectonics and Uplift, Problems relating to Reservoirs, Regional Studies of Soils, Studies of Soft Clays.Quaternary Tectonics and UpliftAs part of the study of the background to the present seismicity of the UK, Ringrose, Hancock and Davenport have observed the distribution of recorded seismicity and noted the coincidence of areas which are currently the most seismicly active with the areas of highest topography and the areas of maximum present day uplift. They have examined several Quaternary faults in Scotland and related the patterns of movement to the inferred state of stress in the earths crust, and concluded that ice-loading must have been sufficient to trigger fault movements. On other faults the displacements are consistent with a zone of uplift coinciding with the maximum zone of present day uplift in the highlands of west central Scotland. The authors report some very substantial fault movements during the Quaternary. The studies, of which these form

Botany is situated on the northern shores of Botany Bay in the south-eastern suburbs of Sydney, 10 kilometres south of Sydney's central business district. The presence of water, whether fresh or salt, is so inextricably bound to the history of Botany that the two are almost synonymous. In modern terms, the area is also strongly associated with various industries, aeroplanes, major arterial roads and seaports. For these reasons it is often regarded as the 'gateway' to Sydney, yet it is also much maligned and often overlooked, as people quickly pass through on their way to other destinations around the country or across the world. Still it is steeped in history of national significance with a large record of 'firsts' to its credit.
