Digital recording is a method that has the potential to help chronic disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis manage problems related to fluid intake. This literature review examines the mobile application intervention for hemodialysis patients, application characteristics, application, effectiveness in changing user behavior, and user satisfaction. The method used is a literature review using articles sourced from electronically based data such as EBSCO, Google Scholar, Pubmed and Scopus with the keywords diet management, fluid status, hemodialysis in the period 2010-2021. The results are five studies describing the evaluation of changes in dietary behavior related to with self-management has a positive change impact. Conclusion: According to the current study, digital recording using an application can hold promise in hemodialysis patients' self-management of fluid intake dietary behavior.

Alexithymia is a construct defined as the inability to differentiate between emotional experiences and bodily sensations. According to existing knowledge, alexithymia may have a major effect on the process of treatment and the outcome of the hemodialysis disease. The objective of this literature review was to determine the significance that alexithymia has for compliance and variables of clinical and mental health in the population of hemodialysis patients. For the above purpose, bibliographic databases “MEDLINE” and “Web of Science” were searched. The matrix method was used in analysis of articles. Searching both databases resulted in 248 articles. After applying exclusion and inclusion criteria, we included results of 13 articles in the literature review. The results of the search are findings regarding the prevalence and correlation of alexithymia with variables of clinical and mental health in hemodialysis patients. Alexithymia is significantly more common in the population of hemodialysis patients, and it has a negative effect on their mental and somatic health. Alexithymia levels in hemodialysis patients are more pronounced in cases where there is a greater number of comorbidities. Alexithymia is the predictor of high mortality rate in the population of hemodialysis patients, independent of other comorbidities.

Self-management in hemodialysis patients is critical; however, is generally low. This study aimed to examine the effects of a theory-based micro-video health education program on the improvement of self-management, hemodialysis knowledge, and self-efficacy in hemodialysis patients. A pre-test post-test control group quasi-experimental design was used to recruit 80 hemodialysis patients in a dialysis center. The participants were assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive routine care or a 3-month micro-video health education program. Between-group comparison showed that patients in the intervention group had significantly greater improvement in hemodialysis knowledge than those in the control group ( p < .05). However, no significant group differences were observed in terms of self-management and self-efficacy. Within-group comparison showed that the overall self-management level of patients in both groups improved significantly, particularly in problem-solving skills and self-care dimensions. Therefore, micro-video health education can improve the self-management and hemodialysis knowledge in Chinese patients undergoing hemodialysis. Trial Registration: Registered at ClinicalTrials.gov with study number (ChiCTR1800018172; http://www.chictr.org.cn/index.aspx ).

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is being increasingly diagnosed in the UKs on the rise, and is expected to continue to rise due to an ageing population with multiple co-morbidities and exposure to risk factors, such as cigarette smoke, noxious gases and air pollutants. The prevalence of this disease is high is areas of socioeconomic deprivation and among high industrial areas. The use of self-management plans in COPD is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), to enable to patients with this disease to be competent and confident in taking part in managing their own health condition and recognising signs and symptoms of an exacerbation. The aim of this article is to discuss self-management of COPD and the clinical guidance surrounding exacerbation of disease. A follow-up literature review will focus on the effectiveness of self-management plans in COPD.
