In this paper, an attempt has been made to extend application of the recently proposed Flexural constitutive model to short-term deformational analysis of flexural prestressed concrete members. The relationship of tensile concrete is based on smeared crack approach and accumulates cracking and the tension stiffening effects. The Flexural constitutive model was applied in a simple engineering technique based on principles of strength of materials and the layered approach. To assess accuracy of the technique, deflections have been calculated for experimental prestressed concrete beams reported in the literature. Comparison has been earned out with the predictions of the well-known design code methods of different countries.

The paper reviews both analytical and finite element methods for deformational analysis of flexural reinforced concrete members subjected to short-term loading. In a state-of-the-art summary of various proposed stress-strain relationships for concrete and reinforcement, a special emphasis is made on critical survey of modelling post-cracking behaviour of tensile concrete in smeared crack approach. Empirical code methods of different countries (American Code (ACI Committee 318 [7]), the Eurocode EC2 [8], and the Russian (old Soviet) Code (SNiP 2.03.01-84 [5]) for deflection calculation of flexural reinforced concrete members are briefly described in section 2. Although these methods are based on different analytical approaches, all of them proved to be accurate tools for deflection assessment of members with high and average reinforcement ratios. It should be noted that these methods have quite a different level of complexity since the Russian Code method employs a great number of parameters and expressions whereas the ACI and EC2 methods are simple and include only basic parameters. Approaches of numerical simulation and constitutive relationships are discussed in Chapter 3. All numerical simulation research can be classified into two large groups according to two different approaches for crack modelling (subsection 3.1): 1) Discrete cracking model. In this approach, cracks are traced individually as they progressively alter the topology of the structure. 2) Smeared cracking model. The cracked concrete is assumed to remain a continuum, ie the cracks are smeared out in the continuous fashion. After cracking, the concrete becomes orthotropic with one of the material axes being oriented along the direction of cracking. Constitutive relationships for steel and plain concrete are presented in subsection 3.2. A special emphasis is made on critical survey of modelling post-cracking behaviour of tensile concrete in smeared crack approach. It has been concluded that although empirical design codes of different countries ensure safe design, they do not reveal the actual stress-strain state of cracked structures and often lack physical interpretation. Numerical methods which were rapidly progressing within last three decades are based on universal principles and can include all possible effects such as material nonlinearities, concrete cracking, creep and shrinkage, reinforcement slip, etc. However, the progress is mostly related to the development of mathematical apparatus, but not material models or, in other words, the development was rather qualitative than quantitative. Constitutive relationships often are too simplified and do not reflect complex multi-factor nature of the material. Existing constitutive relationships for concrete in tension do not assure higher statistical accuracy of deflection estimates for flexural reinforced concrete members in comparison to those obtained by empirical code methods. The author has developed integral constitutive model for deformational analysis of flexural reinforced concrete members [36]. The integral constitutive model consists of traditional constitutive relationships for reinforcement and compressive concrete and the integral constitutive relationship for cracked tensile concrete which accumulates cracking, tension stiffening, reinforcement slippage and shrinkage effects. This constitutive model can be applied not only in a finite element analysis, but also in a simple iterative technique based on classical principles of strength of materials extended to layered approach.

Retard-bonded prestressed concrete which has appeared in recent twenty years is a new and distinctive prestressed system. For the research on mechanical behavior and service property of retard-bonded prestressed concrete members, retard-bonded prestressed strands were made by manual work in this paper. Experimental research and theoretical analysis of three retard-bonded partially prestressed concrete T-beams were carried out under static loadings. The law of crack development and distribution both with the relationship between load and maximum crack width were studied in the paper. Test results were contrasted with experimental studies of two traditional partially prestressed concrete T-beams, and the characters and merits of retard-bonded partially prestressed concrete T-beams were obtained. It provides theoretical reference for the actual project application of the new retard-bonded prestressed concrete system.

Residency is a high-risk period for physician burnout. We aimed to determine the short-term stability of factors associated with burnout, application of these data to previous conceptual models, and the relationship of these factors over 3 months. Physician wellness questionnaire results were analyzed at 2 time points 3 months apart. Associations among variables within and across time points were analyzed. Logistic regression was used to predict burnout and compassionate care. A total of 74% of residents completed surveys. Over 3 months, burnout ( P = .005) and empathy ( P = .04) worsened. The most significant cross-sectional relationship was between stress and emotional exhaustion (time 1 r = 0.61, time 2 r = 0.68). Resilience was predictive of increased compassionate care and decreased burnout ( P < .05). Mindfulness was predictive of decreased burnout ( P < .05). Mitigating stress and fostering mindfulness and resilience longitudinally may be key areas of focus for improved wellness in pediatric residents. Larger studies are needed to better develop targeted wellness interventions.

Abstract We evaluated the variations in some serum constituents in a group of healthy young men for two selected time intervals: short-term day-to-day changes and within-hour changes. In the first case, we used a two-way ANOVA model to compute the main-day effect and the subject-day interaction terms, which were combined to yield the total day-to-day variation. A main-day effect was seen to be statistically significant only for acid phosphatase, while all of the 18 serum constituents except for sodium, calcium, and albumin demonstrated a statistically significant subject-day interaction. For the within-hour biologic variation, a three-way ANOVA model was used to analyze results of duplicate serum samples drawn at 1100 h and 1130 h on two different days. Although a significant main effect of hour was found only for total lipids and alkaline phosphatase, pooling the main effect of hour, subject-hour interaction, and subject-day-hour interaction terms resulted in a chemically significant variation for potassium, total protein, albumin, iron, total lipids, cholesterol, and bilirubin. The relationship of these biological fluctuations is compared to the expected analytical variation in all cases.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find the relationship of capital structure decision with the performance of the firms in the developing market economies like Pakistan.Methodology: Pooled Ordinary Least Square regression was applied to 36 engineering sector firms in Pakistani market listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) during the period 2003-2009.Findings: The results show that financial leverage measured by short term debt to total assets (STDTA) and total debt to total assets (TDTA) has a significantly negative relationship with the firm performance measured by Return on Assets (ROA), Gross Profit Margin (GM) and Tobin’s Q. The relationship between financial leverage and firm performance measured by the return on equity (ROE) is negative but insignificant. Asset size has an insignificant relationship with the firm performance measured by ROA and GM but negative and significant relationship exists with Tobin’s Q. Firms in the engineering sector of Pakistan are largely dependent on short term debt but debts are attached with strong covenants which affect the performance of the firm.Originality/Value: This is first paper to study an individual sector like engineering industry in Pakistan on the mentioned topic.

This study aims to determine to know the relationship of short term and long term of dualism monetary instrument, in conventional there is SBI, and PUAB, money supply (M2) and in islamic instrument there is SBIS,PUAS and money supply (M2). The approach used is a quantitative approach using VAR/VECM. The results of the analysis most contribution most retrieved from M2 variable. While conventional instrument rated the more stable and able to provide higer valure campared to islamic instruments. The result showed that variable of SBIhave positive significant corelation in long term and has contributions reached 10,1%. PUAB variable showed that have significant in long term by giving contribution of 4,68%. Next in islamic instrument, SBIS significant on long term by providing a contribution amount 1,01%, while PUAS have a significant in long term with contribution reached 25,27%. The results of the analysis most contribution most retrieved from M2 variable.
