This study explores the intersection of intimate partner violence (IPV) and animal cruelty in an ethnically diverse sample of 103 pet-owning IPV survivors recruited from community-based domestic violence programs. Template analysis revealed five themes: (a) Animal Maltreatment by Partner as a Tactic of Coercive Power and Control, (b) Animal Maltreatment by Partner as Discipline or Punishment of Pet, (c) Animal Maltreatment by Children, (d) Emotional and Psychological Impact of Animal Maltreatment Exposure, and (e) Pets as an Obstacle to Effective Safety Planning. Results demonstrate the potential impact of animal maltreatment exposure on women and child IPV survivors’ health and safety.

There are so many accidents and cases of health every year in all kinds of production lines at manufacturing industry. Accidents about the mechanical equipment, particularly workshop and manufacturing used in machining the metals, plastics and etc. may have consequences which range from a minor cut to the loss of a finger, hand or eye. The frequency of such accidents varies between 10 and 15 percent. Therefore, great care is required on the part of all machine operators to prevent either personal injury or injury to colleagues nearby. Every person has a duty to ensure that work is carried out in a safe manner and without foreseeable risk to the health and safety of either operators or the others. Occupational health and safety is a vital importance for businesses and the welfare and also the safety of staff. Machine-generated hazards can not be eliminated through inherently safe design, and then they must be reduced to an acceptable level, or the hazards to be isolated from the workers by allowing the minimum safety distances to be respected. All the man-machine interfaces that can affect the health and safety must be carefully established whether they are moving elements, machine components, noise, vibration, visible or invisible radiation hazardous materials or ergonomic hazard. The aim of this study is to introduce guidance on how to prevent or manage many of the health and safety planning on engineering in industries of all kinds.

Safety planning, as well as planning for hazards and risks in building construction projects, are mostly carried out on paper-based 2D plans. There are various methods, such as safety analysis and risk assessment, which can be applied to improve the health and safety of construction workers. Safety planning needs to be integrated into the design and planning phase. Building models are made in 3D; the challenge is to connect both to a single model. This paper solves this problem by carrying out a hazard analysis for collecting and formalizing basis data, and then integrating the calculated results into a 3Dbuilding model. Therefore, the advantage is that a knowledge base can be obtained for all project participants, who can quickly access the risks and hazards connected to their respective buildings.

The objective of this study was to examine differences in change over time in health and safety outcomes among female college students randomized to myPlan, a tailored safety planning app, or usual web-based safety planning resources. Three hundred forty-six women (175 intervention, 171 control) from 41 colleges/universities in Oregon and Maryland completed surveys at baseline, 6- and 12-months from July 2015 to October 2017. Generalized estimating equations were used to test group differences across time. Both groups improved on four measure of intimate partner violence (IPV; Composite Abuse Scale [CAS], TBI-related IPV, digital abuse, reproductive coercion [RC]) and depression. Reduction in RC and improvement in suicide risk were significantly greater in the myPlan group relative to controls ( p = .019 and p = .46, respectively). Increases in the percent of safety behaviors tried that were helpful significantly reduced CAS scores, indicating a reduction in IPV over time in the myPlan group compared to controls ( p = .006). Findings support the feasibility and importance of technology-based IPV safety planning for college women. myPlan achieved a number of its objectives related to safety planning and decision-making, the use of helpful safety behaviors, mental health, and reductions in some forms of IPV.

Abstract. Background: The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) health-care system utilizes a multilevel suicide prevention intervention that features the use of standardized safety plans with veterans considered to be at high risk for suicide. Aims: Little is known about clinician perceptions on the value of safety planning with veterans at high risk for suicide. Method: Audio-recorded interviews with 29 VHA behavioral health treatment providers in a southeastern city were transcribed and analyzed using qualitative methodology. Results: Clinical providers consider safety planning feasible, acceptable, and valuable to veterans at high risk for suicide owing to the collaborative and interactive nature of the intervention. Providers identified the types of veterans who easily engaged in safety planning and those who may experience more difficulty with the process. Conclusion: Additional research with VHA providers in other locations and with veteran consumers is needed.
