Elbamycellaroseasp. nov., introduced in the new genus Elbamycella, was collected in the Mediterranean Sea in association with the seagrass Posidoniaoceanica and with the brown alga Padinapavonica. The affiliation of the new taxon to the family Juncigenaceae is supported by both morphology and phylogenetic inference based on a combined nrSSU and nrLSU sequence dataset. Maximum-likelihood and Bayesian phylogeny proved Elbamycellagen. nov. as a distinct genus within Juncigenaceae. The new genus has been compared with closely related genera and is characterised by a unique suite of characters, such as ascospores with polar appendages and peculiar shape and dimension of ascomata and asci.

Nineteen fungal strains associated with the seagrass Posidonia oceanica, with the green alga Flabellia petiolata, and the brown alga Padina pavonica were collected in the Mediterranean Sea. These strains were previously identified at the family level and hypothesised to be undescribed species. Strains were examined by deep multi-loci phylogenetic and morphological analyses. Maximum-likelihood and Bayesian phylogenies proved that Parathyridariella gen. nov. is a distinct genus in the family Thyriadriaceae. Analyses based on five genetic markers revealed seven new species: Neoroussoella lignicola sp. nov., Roussoella margidorensis sp. nov., R. mediterranea sp. nov., and R. padinae sp. nov. within the family Roussellaceae, and Parathyridaria flabelliae sp. nov., P. tyrrhenica sp. nov., and Parathyridariella dematiacea gen. nov. et sp. nov. within the family Thyridariaceae.

Neostagonosporellasichuanensis sp. nov. was found on Phyllostachysheteroclada collected from Sichuan Province in China and is introduced in a new genus Neostagonosporella gen. nov. in this paper. Evidence for the placement of the new taxon in the family Phaeosphaeriaceae is supported by morphology and phylogenetic analysis of a combined LSU, SSU, ITS and TEF 1-α DNA sequence dataset. Maximum-likelihood, maximum-parsimony and Bayesian inference phylogenetic analyses support Neostagonosporella as a distinct genus within this family. The new genus is compared with related genera of Phaeosphaeriaceae and full descriptions and illustrations are provided. Neostagonosporella is characterised by its unique suite of characters, such as multiloculate ascostromata and cylindrical to fusiform, transversely multiseptate, straight or curved ascospores, which are widest at the central cells. Conidiostromata are multiloculate, fusiform to long fusiform or rhomboid, with two types conidia; macroconidia vermiform or subcylindrical to cylindrical, transversely multiseptate, sometimes curved, almost equidistant between septa and microconidia oval, ellipsoidal or long ellipsoidal, aseptate, rounded at both ends. An updated phylogeny of the Phaeosphaeriaceae based on multigene analysis is provided.

A new asellotan isopod of the family Protojaniridae Fresi, Idato & Scipione, 1980 is described from freshwater springs in the Osorno province, Los Lagos region, southern Chile. Wiyufiloides osornoensis gen. & sp. n. is the third South American protojanirid species and the first known groundwater isopod in Chile. The new genus and species is principally characterized by the presence of a vestigial antennal scale, a strongly subchelate pereiopod I and the absence of an apical lobe on the protopod of pleopod II. The new taxon is described in detail and figures are given.

The record of the fossil representatives of the family Juliidae is updated. The new genus Candinia is proposed, in the subfamily Juliinae, for two fossil species somewhat intermediate between Julia and Berthelinia. The new species Candinia pliocaenica is recorded from the lower Pliocene shallow marine deposits near Siena (Tuscany, Italy). This is the first record of Sacoglossa in the Mediterranean Basin. Based on the very specialized life habits of the Juliidae, it is suggested that subtropical Caulerpa algal prairies inhabited the Mediterranean during the early Pliocene, likely becoming extinct in this basin because of the mid-Pliocene climatic deterioration.

The Epicopeiidae is a small geometroid family distributed in the East Palaearctic and Oriental regions. It exhibits high morphological diversity in body size and wing shape, while their wing patterns involve in various complex mimicry rings. In the present study, we attempted to describe a new genus, and a new species from Vietnam, with comments on two assumed congeneric novel species from China and India. To address its phylogenetic affinity, we reconstructed the phylogeny of the family by using sequence data of COI, EF-1α, and 28S gene regions obtained from seven genera of Epicopeiidae with Pseudobiston pinratanai as the outgroup. We also compared the morphology of the new taxon to other epicopeiid genera to affirm its taxonomic status. The results suggest that the undescribed taxon deserve a new genus, namely Mimaporia gen. n. The species from Vietnam, Mimaporia hmong sp. n., is described as new to science. Under different tree building strategies, the new genus is the sister group of either Chatamla Moore, 1881 or Parabraxas Leech, 1897. The morphological evidence, which was not included in phylogenetic analyses, however, suggests its potential affinity with Burmeia Minet, 2003. This study also provides the first, although preliminary, molecular phylogeny of the family on which the revised systematics and interpretation of character evolution can be based.

One new genus and four new species of eriophyoid mites from Britain are described and illustrated: Novophytoptus acu-leatus n. sp. (Phytoptidae) from Juncus squarrosus L. (Juncaceae); Tegnacus unicornutus n. gen. & n. sp. (Eriophyidae)from Carpinus betulus L. (Betulaceae); Calacarus pusillus n. sp. (Eriophyidae) from Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull (Ericace-ae); and Brevulacus extensus n. sp. (Diptilomiopidae) from Quercus robur L. (Fagaceae). Digital micrographs are alsoprovided for each new taxon. Abstract Textulariid foraminifera are characterized by a multichambered test with an agglutinated wall structure. Recent molecular work has shown that the order Textulariida appears as a paraphyletic group within the class Globothalamea. While larger members of the textulariids are fairly well known, smaller forms like the ones described here are often overlooked or synonymized with known species. A new species and genus was isolated from algal samples collected on the French coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Cyrea szymborska gen. and sp. nov., has a trochospiral chamber arrangement, measuring 100–210 µm in diameter. The organic wall is brownish, opaque, and sparsely agglutinated with diatom frustules and mineral grains, mostly 20 µm or smaller in size. The proloculus is not agglutinated. The extra-umbilical aperture forms a low arch. It is smooth, not agglutinated, and located on the last chamber. The biochemistry of the organic wall was investigated using Raman spectroscopy, showing that it is made of a meshwork of proteoglycans. A combined analysis of SSU and LSU rDNA sequences confirms the position of Cyrea among textulariids, distantly from all other genera. Molecular analyses revealed two phylotypes belonging to the new genus, one of which is formally described here.

A representative of the genus Hemiasterella Carter, 1879 was found for the first time in the Mediterranean Sea during sampling in the shallow waters of the northern Aegean Sea. The new species, H. aristoteliana, is compared with Atlantic Hemiasterella elongata Topsent, 1928. The status of the family Hemiasterellidae is discussed.
