The water samples collected from four localities of the middle course of the Zapadna Morava River during 2020 were analyzed via the selected physico-chemical parameters with the aim to estimate the quality of surface water. According to the results of selected physico-chemical parameters (pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand), analyzed surface water show a good chemical status, while the values of nutrient content (nitrate, nitrite, ammonium ion, total phosphorus) indicated the poor chemical status especially at the locality 4 probably due to the outflow of wastewater from the city of Čačak as well as from the influence of the polluted water of the Čemernica River.

Impact assessment was carried out on the zooplankton diversity of Pohra, Wadali and Chhatri surface water reservoirs around Amravati with respect to their physico-chemical characteristics. During course of study zooplankton were represented by five major groups i.e. Ostracoda, Rotifera, Cladocera, Protozoa and Copepoda.  High value of physico-chemical parameters and low zooplankton diversity were recorded in Chhatri reservoir, moderate in Wadali lake and low value of physico-chemical parameters and high zooplankton diversity were recorded in Pohara lake. The Chhatri reservoir was found to contain most of the pollution indicator species. Wadali reservoir also exhibited few pollution tolerant species. Prominent among them were Ceratodaphnia, Lepadella, Monostyla, Rotarria, Cyclops, Diaptomus and Ectocyclops. The water in all the reservoirs was found to be eutrophic in the order of Pohra > Wadali > Chhatri.

The use of pesticides / fertilizers in plantations has become a problem in maintaining the quality of surface water. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the water quality for irrigation purposes in the Rio Apéu microbasin – Para. The physico-chemical parameters evaluated were: pH, DO, SAR, TDS and EC measured in situ and the metals Al, Fe, Na, Ca, Mg determined in the laboratory Evandro Chagas Institute, according to the method of APHA. The average levels of pH (5.51), OD (5.04 mg L-1) are indications of normal condition in Amazonian waters. The results of Al (332 mg L-1) and Fe (5.74 mg L -1) imply the leaching of sediments from the geological formation of the region rich in these minerals, even though they present values above what is recommended by the legislation. The Richard classification allowed us to define that the waters of the study area have low salinity and sodicity, so they are not restricted to use. Thus, the results of the water quality analysis in the watershed can be concluded that it does not offer environmental problems in the use for irrigation activity

This paper presents a monitoring of groundwater and surface water in the mining area Tg. Ocna, by analyzing 16 physico-chemical parameters (pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, Pb, Ni, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cr, Mg, SO42-, Al, NO2-, NO3-, NH4+), from three rivers Slanic, Trotus and Valcele, a small lake Groapa Burlacu, a fountain and three monitoring drilling wells (F11, F16 and F17). Studies on the quality of surface water and groundwater in areas near mines are important due to extraction and exploitation of salt. The samples were collected in April 2019. Following the analyzes, their results are included in the following concentration ranges: pH 7.21 to 8.46 unit. pH, turbidity 0.54 to 169 NTU, dissolved oxygen 6 to 8.59 mg/L, Pb 0.075 to 0.095 mg/L, Ni 0.026 to 1.05 mg/L, Cu 0.088 to 0.809 mg/L, NO2- 0.001 to 0.037 mg/L and NO3- 0.290 to 4.34 mg/L. The pH, turbidity and dissolved oxygen were measured in situ using portable equipment�s. As for the other parameters, they were analyzed in the water laboratory from Vasile Alecsandri University of Bacau by using spectrophotometry. Some concentrations of the physico-chemical indicators of the water samples analyzed were found to be more than the water quality classes.

AbstractOligochaeta samples were collected from seven lakes (2 natural and 5 non-natural) of Ceyhan River basin during the summer and autumn seasons of 2014. The Ceyhan River basin is located in the south-eastern Anatolia region in Turkey. Lakes Gölbaşı and Azaplı are located in a protected area. Some physico-chemical parameters of surface water were measured in situ. Sampling for oligochaetes was conducted by using both hand-nets and an Ekman Birge grab sampler, with samples obtained from different depths. Oligochaetes represented the dominant group of the total benthic macroinvertebrates in samples, with the exception of samples collected from Ayvalı Dam lake. A total of 11,293 oligochaete specimens were sorted from samples collected from these lakes, from which 14 species belonging to 2 subfamilies (Naidinae and Tubificinae) were identified.

Considering the well-documented impacts of land-use change on water resources and the rapid land-use conversions occurring throughout Africa, in this study, we conducted a spatiotemporal analysis of surface water quality and its relation with the land use and land cover (LULC) pattern in Mokopane, Limpopo province of South Africa. Various physico-chemical parameters were analyzed for surface water samples collected from five sampling locations from 2016 to 2020. Time-series analysis of key surface water quality parameters was performed to identify the essential hydrological processes governing water quality. The analyzed water quality data were also used to calculate the heavy metal pollution index (HPI), heavy metal evaluation index (HEI) and weighted water quality index (WQI). Also, the spatial trend of water quality is compared with LULC changes from 2015 to 2020. Results revealed that the concentration of most of the physico-chemical parameters in the water samples was beyond the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted permissible limit, except for a few parameters in some locations. Based on the calculated values of HPI and HEI, water quality samples were categorized as low to moderately polluted water bodies, whereas all water samples fell under the poor category (>100) and beyond based on the calculated WQI. Looking precisely at the water quality’s temporal trend, it is found that most of the sampling shows a deteriorating trend from 2016 to 2019. However, the year 2020 shows a slightly improving trend on water quality, which can be justified by lowering human activities during the lockdown period imposed by COVID-19. Land use has a significant relationship with surface water quality, and it was evident that built-up land had a more significant negative impact on water quality than the other land use classes. Both natural processes (rock weathering) and anthropogenic activities (wastewater discharge, industrial activities etc.) were found to be playing a vital role in water quality evolution. This study suggests that continuous assessment and monitoring of the spatial and temporal variability of water quality in Limpopo is important to control pollution and health safety in the future.

The Yardantsi Reservoir, Gusau Nigeria serves multitude of purposes for the Gusau populace. It is the main source of water for domestic purpose, irrigation, and fishing. The reservoir receives both organic and inorganic waste through runoffs and seepage from the catchment areas. The physico- chemical parameters of the surface water were investigated monthly from May, 2015 to April, 2017. Samples were collected from five sampling stations and analyzed using standard procedures for examination of water and waste water. The data obtained was subjected to multivariate analysis using Microsoft office excels and SPSS. The results showed the following mean seasonal variation of surface water temperature (26.62±0.34– 30.12±0.17ᴼC),transparency (48.82±1.08- 22.07±0.87cm), mean depth (2.12±0.05-2.65±0.04m), pH (7.61±0.15-7.96±0.13), electrical conductivity (186.32±3.84- 108.05±5.43µS/cm), total dissolved solids (96.00±1.95- 63.70±3.68mg/L), dissolved oxygen (7.80±0.11-6.91±0.10mg/L), biochemical oxygen demand (2.71±0.09-2.48±0.05mg/L), alkalinity (40.57±0.69–27.87±0.51mg/L), hardness (59.20±1.01– 32.18±0.94mg/L), NO3-N (2.28±0.08-4.44±0.07mg/L), PO4-P (123.72±1.44-173.48 ± 2.78 mg/L), sulphate (31.62±1.45-71.80±1.82mg/L)  and chloride (74.08±1.67- 37.64±0.96mg/L) for dry and rainy seasons respectively. The results revealed that a highly significant seasonal variation (p<0.01) was exhibited in all parameters with the exception of pH which shows no significant seasonal variation (p>0.05) and biochemical oxygen demand, which shows a significant seasonal variation (p<0.05). The results of this survey showed that the parameters observed indicated that most of them fall within the recommended range set by World Health Organization (WHO) and Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water Quality (NSDWQ).Keywords: Dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, pH, reservoir, temperature
