During the COVID-19 confinement, we converted our clinical simulation sessions into simulated video consultations. This study aims to evaluate the effects of virtual simulation-based training on developing and cultivating humanization competencies in undergraduate nursing students. A quasi-experimental study was conducted with 60 undergraduate nursing students. A validated questionnaire was used to evaluate the acquisition of humanization competencies (self-efficacy, sociability, affection, emotional understanding, and optimism). The development of humanization competencies in this group composed of undergraduate nursing students was evaluated using virtual simulation-based training, comparing the levels obtained in these competencies at baseline (pre-test) and after the virtual simulation experience (post-test). After the virtual simulation sessions, students improved their levels in humanization total score and the emotional understanding and self-efficacy competencies, obtaining large effects sizes in all of them (rB = 0.508, rB = 0.713, and rB = 0.505 respectively). This virtual simulation modality enables training in the humanization of care with the collaboration of standardized patients in the form of simulated nursing video consultations and the performance of high-fidelity simulation sessions that comply with the requirements of best practices. Therefore, this methodology could be considered as another choice for virtual simulation. Additionally, this virtual modality could be a way to humanize virtual simulation.

Abstract Background Community-based education, as an effective approach to strengthen nurses’ skills in response to society’s problems and needs has increased in nursing education programs. The aim of this study was to review the effect of community-based education on nursing students’ skills. Methods For this systematic review, ProQuest, EMBASE, Scopus, PubMed/ MEDLINE, Cochran Library, Web of Science, CINAHL and Google Scholar were searched up to February 2021. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Seventeen studies were included in this systematic review. Inclusion criteria included articles published in English and were original articles. Results In all studies, undergraduate nursing students’ skills were improved by participation in a community-based education program. Community-based education enhances professional skills, communication skills, self-confidence, knowledge and awareness, and critical thinking skills and teamwork skills in undergraduate nursing students. Conclusions Community-based education should be used as an effective and practical method of training capable nurses to meet the changing needs of society, to improve nurses ‘skills and empower them to address problems in society.

Collaborative community-based organizations (CBOs) and academic partnerships are a prerequisite for the creation of quality learning environments for undergraduate nursing students. However, the explicit nature of the relationship between academic and CBO partners is not as well-defined as the one between hospitals and their clinical settings. The aim of this study was to describe and evaluate the implementation and impact of a 3-year-long partnership between a nursing school and 20 different CBOs. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with 11 CBO partners throughout June and July of 2018. Interview questions explored the collaborative process, its benefits, and areas for improvement. Study participants reported that the partnerships brought several benefits, including familiarizing students with marginalized populations, demystifying the health care system for the populations served by the CBOs, and the students’ development of sustainable health promotion tools that contributed positively to the CBOs’ overall mission. Challenges identified by the CBOs included finding resources to provide adequate student supervision and population access, and some students’ challenges with adapting to the CBOs’ client population or community environment. Collaborative partnerships were mutually beneficial for populations, students and the community organizations. These results support the establishment and long-term development of these types of partnerships.

Introduction and Objective: Human anatomy is an essential component of the undergraduate nursing curriculum for learning the specific disciplines which deal with clinical practice. Anatomical knowledge provides assurance for the practice of clinical assessment and invasive procedures of legal competence of nurses.  The aim of the study was to analyze the correlation of the content taught in the discipline Human Anatomy with the clinical practice of undergraduate nursing students in the discipline Semiology and Semiotics in Nursing and The Care Process, as well as their assurance to start it.Methods: Quantitative descriptive study with the application of an online questionnaire to 66 undergraduate nursing students at a public education institution in the interior of São Paulo. Data analysis by number of occurrences and Chi-square test.Results: There was partial agreement about the interdisciplinarity between human anatomy and disciplines of clinical nursing practice. The students agreed to be partially assured about the procedures to start the semiological practice of different devices and to perform nursing procedures. The predominance of the superficial approach to content related to the clinical practice of the disciplines Semiology and Semiotics in Nursing and The Care Process was predominant.Conclusions: The teaching of human anatomy, along the lines offered, maintains an unsatisfactory correlation with clinical practice due to the students’ experience, interfering with learning, acting in clinical teaching and professional training.
