The semantic web brings a new opportunity for efficient information organization and search. To meet the special requirements of the educational field, this paper proposes an intelligent search engine enabled by educational semantic support service, where three kinds of searches are integrated into Educational Information Intelligent Search (EIIS) framework, and web-based resources and local e-resources are both identically semantically processed. During the design, the EIISReasoning and its relevant rule sets are constructed to automatically reason semantic concepts to diverse levels by a semantic factor and a response time factor. Furthermore, the EIISRanking algorithm applies two-level ranking by a factor of semantic similarity, and the same relevance is differentiated in terms of the educational field’s needs. The experiments show that the EIIS engine with semantic services has a better precision rate and improved ranking performance.

Online-based infertility education provides a health management system to patients using electronic information and technology and no face-to-face interaction with patients and experts. This is a study to develop a web-based integrated support service system to meet the health care and nursing needs of infertile women. To develop a system that is most suitable and practically helpful to infertile women, who are end users of this system, research was conducted. This education system consists of introduction to women’s health care, information on women’s health, information on organizations for women, community for infertile women, and request for consultation for health management and nursing education of infertile women. This study introduced and applied a user-centered design that maximizes the value of use by first understanding the user’s convenience and needs when developing a program.

The rapid development of the computer world that brings every individual or group of people will use information and communication technology in every activity. Likewise in the world of education, including libraries that utilize information and communication technology in managing the process of borrowing and returning library books. The benefits of making a web-based library information system include being able to save time where there is no need for manual recording, making it easier to find book data or library members, making it easier in making book loan reports and other reports and other benefits. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D). The making of software is done by a waterfall model consisting of: (1) needs analysis, (2) design, (3) implementation, and (4) testing. Then UML visual modeling is used which is the standardization of modeling language for object-oriented software development. The expected results of this study produce a web-based library information system using the YII Framework with MVC (Model View Controller) method in SMA Karya Pembangunan Ciwidey that can solve existing problems. The formulation of the problem of this research is how to build a library information system in SMA Karya Pembangunan Ciwidey so that it can present accurate and efficient information. The purpose of this research is to produce a library information system.

Electronic catalogs are at the core of information system support for electronic commerce. Unlike traditional paper-based product catalogs which are limited by size, access method, high production cost, and obsolete information, electronic catalogs promise up-to-date information, more flexible methods of search and retrieval, interactive multimedia user interface, and automated linkage and support for various procurement functions. As the World Wide Web became more popular, a tremendous amount of information flooded the cyberspace resulting in the problem of information overload. To attract and retain users, a Web site should be adaptive on information content, information organization and information display. In this chapter, a Personalized Electronic Catalog (PEC) system is proposed to synthesize the Web-based electronic catalog customization on information content, organization, and display; as well as to demonstrate the analysis and improvement of information access for electronic catalogs in an industrial application.

SUMMARYIn 2005, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health established a web-based outbreak rapid alert system called Vesuv. The system is used for mandatory outbreak alerts from municipal medical officers, healthcare institutions, and food safety authorities. As of 2013, 1426 outbreaks have been reported, involving 32913 cases. More than half of the outbreaks occurred in healthcare institutions (759 outbreaks, 53·2%). A total of 474 (33·2%) outbreaks were associated with food or drinking water. The web-based rapid alert system has proved to be a helpful tool by enhancing reporting and enabling rapid and efficient information sharing between different authorities at both the local and national levels. It is also an important tool for event-based reporting, as required by the International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005. Collecting information from all the outbreak alerts and reports in a national database is also useful for analysing trends, such as occurrence of certain microorganisms, places or sources of infection, or route of transmission. This can facilitate the identification of specific areas where more general preventive measures are needed.

This research explores the reasons behind the phenomenal growth in the use of instant messaging (IM) in China. The paper proposes that one explanation might lie in the high collectivism, high context communication and the cultural practice of guanxi in China. On the one hand, current cross cultural research related to China on mobile telephony seems to provide a strong basis for this contention. On the other hand, the discussion within the literature examining IM within Chinese society appears to be much less robust. However, one could argue that IM provides a unique vehicle for communication within guanxiwang which deserves consideration, especially considering its huge popularity in China. A cursory examination of initial evidence suggests that instant messaging provides the possibility of high context communication and efficient information gathering which facilitates relationship building and maintenance within the relational dyads as well as group characteristics of a guanxiwang. One could argue that instant messaging is perfectly suited to the communication needs of these particularistic and personal hyper-social networks in China.

Information integration is great for military operations because the range of pertinent information sources is significantly distinct and dynamic. This article develops an intelligent knowledge treasure comprised of military resource ontology and procedures, as a learning model for better interoperability of heterogeneous resources of the Indian military. This model can interpret and learn the context of military information automatically, thereby facilitating the military commanders with decision making in several operations, such as command and control, teaching and training, military coalition, situation awareness and many more. To design the military resource ontology, this article specifies the core concepts of the ontology based on terms derived from heterogeneous resources. WWW standard ontology language, OWL has been used to codify the ontology. This article develops an intelligent tool—“QueryOnto”—as an interface to the military resource ontology that provides a commander decision support service and demonstrates how to apply the military ontology in practice. The developed ontology has been verified and validated with the best known approaches and metrics available. The presented model is helpful for military commanders to train their juniors in a systematic way and will provide an efficient web-based learning of different military tasks in future.
