Abstract Background Although there have been discussions about traditional lecturing, lectures are still largely a widespread concept of knowledge transfer. Therefore, it is important to constantly review and evaluate this format. The aims of this study were to analyze which effect a criteria-based written feedback has on the lecture course in geriatrics as an alternative to the conventional student evaluation. Furthermore, we wanted to investigate what kind of impact structured feedback has on lecturers in terms of content, organization and quality. Methods The study was a prospective longitudinal analysis. The 34 lectures on the subject of geriatrics were analyzed over two cohorts using a standardized evaluation sheet. The assessment was carried out on a 5-point-scale using a 22-item feedback instrument. After the first evaluation, each lecturer received an individual evaluation with strengths and suggestions for improvement. In the second cohort the lecture series was evaluated again, and individual feedback was sent. Results In six of 22 sub-categories the improvement was significant. The most significant improvement was made in terms of content/structure with an increase from 3.4 to 4.3 points. Conclusion This study shows that significant improvement in teaching is possible by means of individualized written feedback for the lecturers and that students perceive the resulting improvements positively. Our results suggest that the implementation of these feedback instruments in other modules might improve their teaching as well.

Abstract

Information technology has emerged in all aspect including in the healthcare field. e-KIA is an application to monitor mother and child healthcare as initial steps in implementing information technology in the healthcare field. As a newly developed application, the usability level of e-KIA is not known yet. Usability testing is important steps to be taken before the application will be used by stakeholders. Usability testing could be used to identify problems that may occur in the early stage and could be used as early warning to application aspects need to be fixed. e-KIA Usability Testing is conducted to overcome the specified problems. Usability testing started by taking the literature review followed by evaluator selection and evaluation briefing. The next step is designing an evaluation instrument and evaluation scenario. The conducted usability testing is focus on Severity Ranking (SR), Ease of Fixing Ranking (EFR), and Problem Category. The identified problems are then categorized into Nielsen’s 10 Heuristic Principal. The identified problems are simplified to three categories of Selection Driven Command, Content Organization, and Visual Representation. The experiment has found 18 problems in Selection Driven category, 10 problem in Content Organization, and 7 problems in Visual Representation category.

This experimental research was conducted to find out the effect of using clustering technique on the students’ writing skills at Senior High School No. 1 Delima, Pidie District. It also has several sub-focuses, namely figuring out the students’ writing content, organization, and language use. The subjects of the study were the 10th grade students that were divided in random sampling into the experimental and the control groups. This procedure was carried out through homogeneity of the selected samples. To expose the focuses of answers, the pretest and post-test instruments were applied to both groups. The result showed that the students in experimental group had an improved quality of writing a descriptive text than that of the control-group students. At a level of significance 0.05, the ttestscore was higher than ttablescore (8,441,684). In addition, the mean score of the experimental group (78,79) was higher than the mean score of the control group (53,75). This figure has corresponded with the results of the three writing aspects of the students’ work, which also brought a relatively positive achievement. This means that there were significant improvements regarding the students’ writing aspects of content, organization, and language use in descriptive texts respectively.

Prostate cancer is a heterogeneous disease that remains dormant for long periods or acts aggressively with poor clinical outcomes. Identifying aggressive prostate tumor behavior using current glandular-focused histopathological criteria is challenging. Recent evidence has implicated the stroma in modulating prostate tumor behavior and in predicting post-surgical outcomes. However, the emergence of stromal signatures has been limited, due in part to the lack of adoption of imaging modalities for stromal-specific profiling. Herein, label-free multiphoton microscopy (MPM), with its ability to image tissue with stromal-specific contrast, is used to identify prostate stromal features associated with aggressive tumor behavior and clinical outcome. MPM was performed on unstained prostatectomy specimens from 59 patients and on biopsy specimens from 17 patients with known post-surgery recurrence status. MPM-identified collagen content, organization, and morphological tumor signatures were extracted for each patient and screened for association with recurrent disease. Compared to tumors from patients whose disease did not recur, tumors from patients with recurrent disease exhibited higher MPM-identified collagen amount and collagen fiber intensity signal and width. Our study shows an association between MPM-identified stromal collagen features of prostate tumors and post-surgical disease recurrence, suggesting their potential for prostate cancer risk assessment.
