Using KMS as a Tool to Improve Decision Making Process

Knowledge plays a central role in the decision making process, and it provides a better foundation for managers to make high quality decisions. On the other hand, having the right knowledge at the right time to make the right decision is becoming a competitive weapon utilized by organizations to achieve sustained competitive advantage and other strategic goals. Based on that, it is important for organizations to manage their knowledge (organization intellectual asset) in a more effective and efficient way in order to gain such benefits. This chapter explores knowledge management and decision-making processes and its general concepts, reviews several conceptual frameworks of knowledge management that affect the decision making process proposed in the literature, and demonstrates several knowledge-management practices in software development processes. Conclusions and proposed future work are stated at the end of the chapter.

In a highly competitive environment saturated in information traversing the earth in nanosecond, the major challenge for companies is to have the right information at the right time, to exploit it and transform it into useful organizational knowledge for strategy formulation and decision-making. Nowadays, several management practices have been developed and designed to cope with the complexity that exists in the business environment and to maintain a sustained competitive advantage. Competitive intelligence is one of these innovative strategic management practices that play an increasingly important role in decision-making. This article attempts to present an overview of its fundamental concepts, functions and process and to explain how information is utilized in supporting decision-making process. The findings of this research suggest that decision makers should focus on developing competitive intelligence process in their organizations. This paper falls under a research task that was not confronted yet with the test of the terrain survey.

Changes in the environment experienced by organizations require organizations to make adjustments to answer all future challenges. The strength that must be possessed by the organization is to realize the concrete concept that becomes a tool to make changes. One of them is knowledge management, because knowledge management is an organizational activity that manages knowledge as an asset, wherein various strategies there is the right distribution of knowledge to the right people in a fast time until they interact with each other from various knowledge and apply it in daily work for performance improvement. Knowledge Management integration in the decision-making process can be interpreted as a structured and systematic process in acquiring, distributing, and utilizing knowledge to support the decision-making process. The position of knowledge management in decision making is between two poles of knowledge, namely tacit knowledge on the one hand and the utilization of explicit knowledge in decision making on the other. Explicit knowledge emphasizes the implicit role of knowledge management in influencing actors involved in decision making. Research design using quantitative methods. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires. The results showed that the implementation of Knowledge management has a positive effect on decision making in the Regional Development Agency of Takalar regency.

AbstractAdoption of legal technology within law firms has seen a significant increase in recent years with the current necessity for seemingly indefinite remote working only adding to the need for technology solutions to keep legal workflows running. In light of this, legal technology purchases will undoubtedly see a further increase and a well conducted proof of value is crucial to making the right investment decision. This article is based on a talk given by Eleanor White at the BIALL Knowledge Management SIG in November 2018. It establishes the difference between a proof of concept and proof of value and elaborates on some key principles to consider during each phase of the latter. From the preparation and planning through to the running of the evaluation and the resulting decision-making process, this article addresses how to get the most out of the proof of value opportunity.

The environment in which managers currently operate is dynamic and turbulent. This fact affects the great complexity and dynamism of changes. Thus, decision-making becomes more complex in the context of sustainability. Decisive decision-making is becoming rare, and the challenge of globalization is increasing. Under its influence, decision-making is no longer deterministic. Decision-making processes prevail in conditions of uncertainty. In this context, there is a very intense need to be acquainted with progressive tools to support decision-making and management and to apply the acquired knowledge in practice. This paper focuses on three related areas. We are talking about knowledge management in connection with the most important contributing element—decision-making with quality management. We deal with the characteristics of the individual areas, defining their mutual relationship on a systemic basis. The paper also points to the necessary connection between theory and practice. More specifically, it points to the practical applications of management to decision-making as a managerial function and, at the same time, related to decision-making in quality management. Subsequently, we define the links to knowledge management with an emphasis on the use of procedures, methods, and knowledge in the decision-making process, which we use in theory and practice in quality management.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the practices of knowledge management (KM) by the Justices and bench officers of Judiciary of Nepal. The aim of this study is to explore the KM practices by the Justices and bench officers of the Supreme Court of Nepal during the process of the decision-making process and Judgmental preparing process. Design/methodology/approach The qualitative design and case study method was applied to this research. The information were collected from the Justices and bench officers of the Supreme Court of Nepal by using an interview of the participants. Findings It was essential to establish the KM in judiciary in the process of case hearing, decision-making and execution process. The KM tool and techniques help to make the employee of judiciary including justices to make a decision faster. It also establishes the values of the KM in judiciary from Judicial and administrative perspectives. Research limitations/implications The study anticipated the participants’ perceptions and practices of KM during the process of case hearing, decision-making and decision execution process of the case. This research was not viewed from the perspectives of judicial administration. The research participants of this study were Justices and bench officers of the Supreme Court of Nepal. So, it reflects the scenario of practices of Supreme court of Nepal. Practical implications This paper provides support for the importance of KM practices and awareness in judiciary to enhance the decision-making process during the case hearing process by the Justices in court. Originality/value This paper tries to establish practical implication along with its importance in Judiciary of Nepal.

The study aimed to reveal the role of knowledge management in decision- making processes among workers at Aqaba Container Port Company in Jordan، the study sample consisted of (193) males and (57) females، and among the most important findings of the study: there are statistically significant differences between Average degrees of variables (knowledge generation، knowledge storage، knowledge distribution، and application of knowledge) that were in favor of females and also here are statistically significant differences for the decision- making process that were in favor of males، and also that knowledge management is an important and necessary tool for practicing the various administrative activities in the company، and work to provide requirements and requirements for applying knowledge management in the company and in other fields، where the researcher made the following recommendations: The need for the company to adopt an objective system of material and moral incentives that rewards knowledge efforts، as well as encouraging workers to be creative and produce knowledge، and strive towards developing their knowledge capabilities.

<p>This study investigated the decision making processes used by boards of trustees in schools across a range of deciles in a region of New Zealand. The research is framed by two objectives: to gain a broader insight and understanding of the processes used by boards of trustees when making decisions in order to inform a more robust governance system for schools that better responds to the development needs of school board members and educational needs of students; and to explore the ways i.e. skills, knowledge and experience used, in which decisions are made by principals and boards of trustees to stand-down, suspend, exclude and expel students in low/high decile schooling contexts in New Zealand. The inquiry is positioned within a critical educational paradigm, employs a mixed method approach incorporating a case study and survey, and uses a thematic analysis approach to identify themes. The research questions that guide this study are: what factors are the enablers or barriers that influence the decision making process of discipline committees?; how does the current support offered to boards of trustees empower them to make qualified decisions about continuing suspensions or excluding students or are there gaps in the support offered? And; what impact, if any, does the socio-economic area of a school have on the degree of knowledge and capability applied by its trustees when deciding to suspend or exclude/expel students? Data suggest school boards that have followed a sound process incorporating principles of natural justice and that have used quality documentation positively influence the outcome of a discipline committee meeting. The gaps in the current support offered to boards could be addressed by key stakeholders like the Ministry of Education and the New Zealand School Trustees Association committing resources to professional development for board of trustee members. It is often boards of low decile schools that lack confidence in their capability when making decisions about continuing suspensions, excluding and expelling students however, they also believe they are the right people to make that decision.</p>

In Ethiopia, the practice of land management started three decades ago in order to address the problem of land degradation and to further boost agricultural production. However, the impact of land management practices in curbing land degradation problems and improving the productivity of the agricultural sector is insignificant. Various empirical works have previously identified the determinants of the adoption rate of land management practices. However, the sustainability of land management practices after adoption, and the various factors that control the sustainability of implemented land management practices, are not well addressed. This study analyzed the factors affecting the sustainability of land management practices after implementation in Mecha Woreda, northwestern Ethiopia. The study used 378 sample respondents, selected by a systematic random sampling technique. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the quantitative data, while the qualitative data were qualitatively and concurrently analyzed with the quantitative data. The sustained supply of fodder from the implemented land management practices, as well as improved cattle breed, increases the sustainability of the implemented land management practices. While lack of agreement in the community, lack of enforcing community bylaws, open cattle grazing, lack of benefits of implemented land management practices, acting as barrier for farming practices, poor participation of household heads during planning and decision-making processes, as well as the lack of short-term benefits, reduce the sustainability of the implemented land management practices. Thus, it is better to allow for the full participation of household heads in planning and decision-making processes to bring practical and visible results in land management practices. In addition, recognizing short-term benefits to compensate the land lost in constructing land management structures must be the strategy in land management practices. Finally, reducing the number of cattle and practicing stall feeding is helpful both for the sustainability of land management practices and the productivity of cattle. In line with this, fast-growing fodder grass species have to be introduced for household heads to grow on land management structures and communal grazing fields for stall feeding.
