Cloud computing has become a practical solution for processing big data. Cloud service providers have heterogeneous resources and offer a wide range of services with various processing capabilities. Typically, cloud users set preferences when working on a cloud platform. Some users tend to prefer the cheapest services for the given tasks, whereas other users prefer solutions that ensure the shortest response time or seek solutions that produce services ensuring an acceptable response time at a reasonable cost. The main responsibility of the cloud service broker is identifying the best data centre to be used for processing user requests. Therefore, to maintain a high level of quality of service, it is necessity to develop a service broker policy that is capable of selecting the best data centre, taking into consideration user preferences (e.g. cost, response time). This paper proposes an efficient and cost-effective plan for a service broker policy in a cloud environment based on the concept of VIKOR. The proposed solution relies on a multi-criteria decision-making technique aimed at generating an optimized solution that incorporates user preferences. The simulation results show that the proposed policy outperforms most recent policies designed for the cloud environment in many aspects, including processing time, response time, and processing cost. KEYWORDS Cloud computing, data centre selection, service broker, VIKOR, user priorities

Cloud computing provisions and allocates resources, in advance or real-time, to dynamic applications planned for execution. This is a challenging task as the Cloud-Service-Providers (CSPs) may not have sufficient resources at all times to satisfy the resource requests of the Cloud-Service-Users (CSUs). Further, the CSPs and CSUs have conflicting interests and may have different utilities. Service-Level-Agreement (SLA) negotiations among CSPs and CSUs can address these limitations. User Agents (UAs) negotiate for resources on behalf of the CSUs and help reduce the overall costs for the CSUs and enhance the resource utilization for the CSPs. This research proposes a broker-based mediation framework to optimize the SLA negotiation strategies between UAs and CSPs in Cloud environment. The impact of the proposed framework on utility, negotiation time, and request satisfaction are evaluated. The empirical results show that these strategies favor cooperative negotiation and achieve significantly higher utilities, higher satisfaction, and faster negotiation speed for all the entities involved in the negotiation.

The emerging cloud computing technology is the attention of both commercial and academic spheres. Generally, the cost of the faster resource is more than the slower ones, therefore, there is a trade-off between deadline and cost. In this paper, the authors propose a receiver initiated deadline aware load balancing strategy (RDLBS) which tries to meet the deadline of the requests and optimizes the rate of revenue. RDLBS balances the load among the virtual machines (VMs) by migrating the request from the overloaded VMs to underloaded VMs. Turnaround time is also computed for the performance evaluation. The experiments are conducted by using CloudSim simulator and results are compared with existing state of art algorithms with similar objectives.

As information and processes are migrating to the cloud, Cloud Computing is drastically changing IT professionals’ working environment. Cloud Computing solves many problems of conventional computing. However, the new technology has also created new challenges such as data security, data ownership and trans-code data storage. We discussed about Cloud computing security issues, mechanism, challenges that Cloud service providers and consumers face during Cloud engineering. Based on concerning of security issues and challenges, we proposed several encryption algorithms to make cloud data secure and invulnerable. We made comparisons among DES, AES, RSA and ECC algorithms to find combinatorial optimization solutions, which fit Cloud environment well for making cloud data secure and not to be hacked by attackers.

Cloud computing is a way to increase the capacity or add capabilities dynamically without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing new software. As information exchange plays an important role in today’s life, information security becomes more important. This paper is focused on the security issues of cloud computing and techniques to overcome the data security issue. Before analyzing the security issues, the definition of cloud computing and brief discussion to under cloud computing is presented. The various components that affect the security of the cloud and the problems faced by cloud service provider have been discussed in this paper.

The evolution of IT led Cloud computing technology emerge as a new prototype in providing the services to its users on rented basis at any time or place. Considering the flexibility of cloud services, innumerable organizations switched their businesses to the cloud technology by setting up more data centers. Nevertheless, it has become mandatory to provide profitable execution of tasks and appropriate  resource utilization. A few approaches were outlined in literature to enhance performance, job scheduling, storage resources, QoS and load distribution. Load balancing concept permits data centers to avert over-loading or under-loading in virtual machines that as such is an issue in cloud computing domain. Consequently, it necessitate the researchers to layout and apply a proper load balancer for cloud environment. The respective study represents a view of problems and threats faced by the current load balancing techniques and make the researchers find more efficient algorithms.

The cloud computing environment is one of the most promising technologies in the development of computing resources. The cloud service providers provide almost every resource for computing to their users through the internet. With all its advantages, cloud computing has major security issues. Especially in the case of public clouds, anyone can misuse the services for performing unlawful activities. The traditional approaches used for cyber forensics and network forensics are not adequate for the cloud environment because of many technical constraints. There is a need for setting up effective countermeasures that can help an investigator to identify and track unlawful activities happened in a cloud environment. Cloud forensics is an emerging area of research where the researchers aim to provide effective digital forensic techniques that help in the investigation of digital crimes in a cloud environment. The cloud environment helps to extract data even from devices that are not physically accessible. However, cloud forensics is not as easy as it seems; a lot of the success depends on the cloud service model implemented in the context. Getting the support of cloud service providers in accessing the potential sources of evidence necessary for investigation is also a major concern. Another critical aspect of cloud forensics is dealing with legal issues. This chapter discusses the basic concepts of cloud forensics, its challenges, and future directions.

Abstract The main objective of this study is to run a high-resolution dynamic simulation on a 521-million cell gas condensate field model for 50 years and capture the effects of gas condensate dropout. Two challenges were encountered on the user and service provider levels. The former is performing such work in a remote location with limited processing hardware resources. The latter is related to resolving memory, CPU allocation, technical support, system resources availability, integration between providers, and simulation needs on user demand. The approach adopted in this field development planning study was to utilize the latest cloud technology to run the 521 million cell simulation on cloud clusters as well as two upscaled versions (5 and 21 million cells). Such procedures can save significant processing time and money. As opposed to direct purchase and installation of clusters that require maintenance, updates, and become outdated over time, with a cloud cluster that is kept updated and maintained by service providers, significant cost overheads (in millions) could be saved. Using such technology allows operators to get global technical support making executing such simulations viable even in the most remote locations. The field under study is a gas condensate field that on its own can present multiple challenges including the gas condensate banking impact and compositional modeling. The main strategy adopted in this study was to utilize the static model with no upscaling, to capture the geological details. With the utilization of cloud technology, all simulations were completed in record time. The 5 million cell model was executed in 23 min, while the 21 million cell model executed in 4 hours, and the 521 million executed in 65 hours. The results of the simulations showed that the gas condensate banking effect was captured clearly after the implementation of local grid refinement (LGR) on the upscaled models. A good match was observed in the production profiles for all key parameters, such as gas rates, oil and condensate rates and their cumulative productions. Using cloud technology saved the operating company over 5 million dollars in cluster hardware direct purchase, support and maintenance costs, making the utilization of the cloud computing technology not only economical, but also bringing about operational efficiencies. This is the first time a cloud-based dynamic simulation is performed on a 521 million cell model in the world and the first time, an on-demand reservoir simulation based on cloud computing technology has been conducted in the Middle East region. This paper will also show that, given the right model parameters, carefully built smaller models can yield results similar to larger models, highlighting the importance of efficiency.
