Abstract The main objective of this study is to run a high-resolution dynamic simulation on a 521-million cell gas condensate field model for 50 years and capture the effects of gas condensate dropout. Two challenges were encountered on the user and service provider levels. The former is performing such work in a remote location with limited processing hardware resources. The latter is related to resolving memory, CPU allocation, technical support, system resources availability, integration between providers, and simulation needs on user demand. The approach adopted in this field development planning study was to utilize the latest cloud technology to run the 521 million cell simulation on cloud clusters as well as two upscaled versions (5 and 21 million cells). Such procedures can save significant processing time and money. As opposed to direct purchase and installation of clusters that require maintenance, updates, and become outdated over time, with a cloud cluster that is kept updated and maintained by service providers, significant cost overheads (in millions) could be saved. Using such technology allows operators to get global technical support making executing such simulations viable even in the most remote locations. The field under study is a gas condensate field that on its own can present multiple challenges including the gas condensate banking impact and compositional modeling. The main strategy adopted in this study was to utilize the static model with no upscaling, to capture the geological details. With the utilization of cloud technology, all simulations were completed in record time. The 5 million cell model was executed in 23 min, while the 21 million cell model executed in 4 hours, and the 521 million executed in 65 hours. The results of the simulations showed that the gas condensate banking effect was captured clearly after the implementation of local grid refinement (LGR) on the upscaled models. A good match was observed in the production profiles for all key parameters, such as gas rates, oil and condensate rates and their cumulative productions. Using cloud technology saved the operating company over 5 million dollars in cluster hardware direct purchase, support and maintenance costs, making the utilization of the cloud computing technology not only economical, but also bringing about operational efficiencies. This is the first time a cloud-based dynamic simulation is performed on a 521 million cell model in the world and the first time, an on-demand reservoir simulation based on cloud computing technology has been conducted in the Middle East region. This paper will also show that, given the right model parameters, carefully built smaller models can yield results similar to larger models, highlighting the importance of efficiency.

Cloud is a service oriented platform where all kinds of virtual resources are treated as services to users. Several cloud service providers have offered different capabilities for a variety of market segments over the past few years. The most important aspects of cloud computing are resource scheduling, performance measures, and user requests. Sluggish access to data, applications, and web pages spoils employees and customers alike, as well as cause application crashes and data losses. In this paper, the authors propose an analytical queuing model for performance evaluation of cloud server farms for processing bulk data. Some important performance measures such as mean number of tasks in the queue, blocking probability, and probability of immediate service, and waiting-time distribution in the system have also been discussed. Finally, a variety of numerical results showing the effect of model parameters on key performance measures are presented.

In this era, traditional technologies such as having servers and various kinds of hardware have been abandoned by large companies, which are turning to cloud computing technology. This technology makes it easier for companies to run their business. Of the many cloud computing service providers, Amazon Web Service (AWS) is one of the first and biggest service providers. Problems that occur in the use of cloud computing technology is the provision of access rights in data management. AWS has a service to manage access control for each service, namely Identity and Access Management (IAM). This service seeks to prevent activities that lead to security breaches. The results obtained are in the form of groups that can access AWS services according to the role given.

In the world of information communication technology (ICT) the term Cloud Computing has been the buzz word. Cloud computing is changing its definition the way technocrats are using it according to the environment. Cloud computing as a definition remains very contentious. Definition is stated liable to a particular application with no unanimous definition, making it altogether elusive. In spite of this, it is this technology which is revolutionizing the traditional usage of computer hardware, software, data storage media, processing mechanism with more of benefits to the stake holders. In the past, the use of autonomous computers and the nodes that were interconnected forming the computer networks with shared software resources had minimized the cost on hardware and also on the software to certain extent. Thus evolutionary changes in computing technology over a few decades has brought in the platform and environment changes in machine architecture, operating system, network connectivity and application workload. This has made the commercial use of technology more predominant. Instead of centralized systems, parallel and distributed systems will be more preferred to solve computational problems in the business domain. These hardware are ideal to solve large-scale problems over internet. This computing model is data-intensive and networkcentric. Most of the organizations with ICT used to feel storing of huge data, maintaining, processing of the same and communication through internet for automating the entire process a challenge. In this paper we explore the growth of CC technology over several years. How high performance computing systems and high throughput computing systems enhance computational performance and also how cloud computing technology according to various experts, scientific community and also the service providers is going to be more cost effective through different dimensions of business aspects.
