Integrating Sustainability in Cloud Computing for Managing Sustainable Knowledge in Higher Education

This chapter aims to present a conceptual model in order to facilitate sustainability in cloud computing resulting in sustainability in organizational knowledge in education. From one perspective, while cloud computing has been considered as a recent area of research due to arguments round its value to organizational performance, sustainability has turned to be a typical common norm due to the discovery of uncertainty in various human aspects. From a different perspective, the role of Knowledge Management in enhancing organisational success has been detected in different researches. The main consensus after these researches is that the more effective management of knowledge is, the more effective the organizational performance will be. Therefore, this chapter presents a theoretical framework of potential links among cloud computing, knowledge management and sustainability.

The present study aimed to examine the mediating role of organizational learning in the relationship between knowledge management and organizational performance in HEIs, KP, Pakistan. Teachers working in the Universities were considered the sample (n=338) of the study. A structured questionnaire comprised items about research variables administered in order to collect data. Baron and Kennys (1986) four-step models applied through Preacher and Hayes (2013) Process macro as a data analysis technique. The current study results show that organizational learning acts partially mediates in the association between KM and OP. Moreover, enriching the literature on this understanding, the present study is also of value in managerial perspective as it helps increase higher education institutions (HEIs) knowledge on how to boost and enhance the performance of the organization by engaging in KM activities.

PurposeThe purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of knowledge-oriented leadership on organizational performance of higher education institutions (HEIs) and examine the neglected mediating role of knowledge management (KM) processes and innovation.Design/methodology/approachFollowing the quantitative and cross-sectional research design, data were collected through self-administered questionnaire from 312 faculty members of HEIs of Pakistan. The partial least squares structural equation modelling data analysis technique was applied to test the hypothesized relationships.FindingsThe results indicate that knowledge-oriented leadership has direct and positive effect on organizational performance. Moreover, the findings reveal that KM processes and innovation partially mediate the effect of knowledge-oriented leadership on organizational performance.Practical implicationsThis study underscores the imrportant role of knowledge-oriented leadership in HEIs. Findings of this research suggest that by exhibiting knowledge-oriented behaviours, managers of HEIs can effectively manage their knowledge assets, ensure successful implementation of KM processes and augment product and process innovation leading towards superior organizational performance.Originality/valueThis is amongst one of the first studies that proposes an integrated research model and examines interrelationships amongst knowledge-oriented leadership, KM processes, innovation and organizational performance in the context of HEIs.

PurposeConstructed upon knowledge-based view, the study examines the influence of internal marketing on knowledge management processes and the indirect association of knowledge management processes with organizational performance through mediating role of knowledge worker satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachThis study used a sample frame of 536 academic and administrative employees from higher education institutions in China; structural equation modeling was performed using Smart PLS 3.2.8.FindingsThe outcome reveals that internal marketing has a significant impact on knowledge management processes. The results revealed a direct insignificant impact of knowledge management processes on organizational performance; the study found full mediation of knowledge worker satisfaction on the linkage between knowledge management processes and organizational performance.Practical implicationsOutcomes of this research strengthen the universities’ experience of knowledge management and recommend how academics and administrators of higher education institute can value knowledge worker satisfaction, which in turn improves organizational performance.Originality/valueAlthough, there is an increased significance of knowledge management in higher education institutions, there is a lack of research that examines the enabling factors and outcomes of knowledge management practices. The present study is one of the first studies to ascertain the relationship of internal marketing, knowledge management processes, knowledge worker satisfaction and organizational performance. This is one of the initial research studies that not only empirically examines the interrelationships among these variables but also enlightens insights into the current literature by instantaneous investigation of the mediating role of knowledge worker satisfaction.

As higher education plays a pivotal role in the economic well-being of modern societies, universities today are faced with increasing pressure in order to improve their accountability and performance. They have to redesign the research structure to achieve the set objectives. The present survey aimed at studying the factors and related indicators that affect the effectiveness of the research structure of the universities. The sample included 274 faculty members who were selected through stratified random method at 8 branches of Islamic Azad University in Tehran province (Iran). Research questions were: a) What key Factors influence the Effectiveness of the universities’ research structure? and b) What conceptual model can be designed? Finally, in this study using a questionnaire and factor analysis technique, eight factors were identified and ranked which contribute towards the effectiveness of research structure in universities . Finally, a conceptual model has been proposed for the universities to strengthen their research structure.


This study explored role of knowledge management practice on the performance in higher education institute at Jimma University College of agriculture and Veterinary medicine in Ethiopia, considering academic staff perception. The study mainly employed quantitative descriptive research design using cross sectional design also used qualitative approach. For data collection, pre-tested self-administered structured questionnaire used. Considering 143 academic staff a population studied using census approach out of total 214 excluding those currently engaged in further study. Response rate was 81.8%. Descriptive and inferential statistics analysis employed utilizing STATA 14. Major finding includes: willingness of knowledge sharing and discovery was at high level. Knowledge sharing, capture, utilization as well as organizational and IT infrastructure support was at medium level. Chi-square (χ2) test indicated there is association between knowledge capture, sharing, utilization, organization support, IT support and performance. However ordinal logistic regression analysis revealed that only component knowledge utilization has positive and significant impact on performance. The study identified challenges in the practice of knowledge management such as inadequate fund, unsatisfactory documentation, inadequate support and cooperation consecutively. Thus college should spend more in knowledge management practice can improve innovation utilized in funding research, enhance team work, improving technology, motivate academic staff to retain and share knowledge. This research paper aims to explain relationships of   organization learning (OL), knowledge management (KM), talent management (TM) practices and organizational performance (OP) in order to have excellent understanding of the subject by using in-depth analysis of the extant literature. This research offers mechanisms for Organizational Knowledge Systems (OKS) that will help the entity to apply OKS.
