This paper presents and discusses the use of knowledge management to support innovation in higher education institutions (HEI). The study was conducted at Brasil-STHEM Consortium - a network of Brazilian higher education institutions that work together in the implementation of innovation in their teaching and learning practises. 29 HEI participated in the study that was designed as an exploratory research and used the Asian Productivity Association (APO) knowledge management maturity level assessment tool as a framework for data collection and analysis.  Results demonstrate that there was openness for knowledge management and that there is technological infrastructure available for this to happen, but found  little evidence of the systematic use of knowledge management  practices. The study contributes to research and practise in education management  by proposing the use of KM theory and tools to understand how knowledge being generated by higher education institutions can be identified, stored, shared, created and applied in order to amplify its impact to educational change and innovation.

While the pressure of public accountability has placed increasing pressure on higher education institutions to provide information regarding critical outcomes, this chapter describes how knowledge management (KM) can be used by educational institutions to gain a more comprehensive, integrative, and reflexive understanding of the impact of information on their organizations. The practice of KM, initially derived from theory and practice in the business sector, has typically been used to address isolated data and information transfer, rather than actual systemwide change. However, higher education institutions should not simply appropriate KM strategies and practices as they have appeared in the business sector. Instead, higher education institutions should use KM to focus on long-term, organization-wide strategies.

Organizational sustainability is an important strategy in improving the organization. It is not only providing economic benefits but also intellectual capital of knowledge for PD Dharma Jaya employees. Knowledge Management mediates the effect of structural capital on organizational sustainability. It has a negative and significant effect. Knowledge Management mediates the effect of relational capital on organizational sustainability. It has a positive and significant effect. Knowledge Management (KM) is an approach to understand how the known processes are on created, used and shared to enhance academic productivity. This study aims to determine the system of implementation of KM in Islamic higher education, having the work unit status of non-tax state revenue (Penerimaan Negara Bukan Pajak/PNBP) and public service agency (Badan Layanan Umum/BLU) and applying remuneration. This study utilizes a qualitative method with the phenomenological approach. Data collection take through observation, in-depth interviews, document analysis, and focus group discussions. The implementation of KM is with the result of academic knowledge from research products and research schemes of educational staffs, saving knowledge storage on the database through electronic and printed forms, and the knowledge taking a distribution on through printed and electronic forms which are referencing lecture notes and oral sources such as scientific consortium and lecturing. Higher education is all about people and management. The success of the higher educational institutions revolves largely around the quality of the research and the faculty. This emphasizes the need of a strong financial base to deliver a quality education to students. In the present scenario, which is characterized by intense information flow, dynamism, progress, growth, and continuous challenging environment, the higher educational institutions hold an important place. The present study focuses on exploring the relationship between human capital management and human resource development (HRD) climate. For the research purpose, two universities, University of Jammu and University of Kashmir, have been taken. The model derived by applying a confirmatory factor analysis in the present research study depicts a linkage between human capital management and HRD climate, and if applied in the institutions of higher education by customizing according to their needs and requirements, it would help in attaining the vision as perceived by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry for 2030 in attaining overall excellence in higher education sector in India. So, it is very important to develop research focused universities with community participation which could deliver high quality research output and research focused graduates and lead to creating a NALANDA for the new millennia.

In a knowledge-based economy higher education institutions (HEIs) and specialized research units have an important role to play in bringing knowledge to the regions. The first and perhaps most important step for an HEI is to understand the needs of regional industry Only then can it work in close and effective collaboration with firms. In this paper Finland's Satakunta Polytechnic (SPT) is used as a case example to examine what practical actions an HEI can take to increase interaction with industry and achieve better knowledge circulation. The paper describes the models and tools developed at SPT towards these ends, including strategy-based regional development, the cluster approach to development, the partnering process, knowledge management and the ‘SNIFF’ process (‘Searching for New Innovations For Firms’). It is stressed that regional development strategies must take into account the wide-ranging impacts of global competition and economics and thus regional actions must be compatible with the demands of global competition and the knowledge economy.
