This chapter reveals the overview of text mining; text mining, patent analysis, and keyword selection; text mining and sentiment analysis in modern marketing; text mining applications in the biomedical sciences; and the multifaceted applications of text mining. Text mining is an advanced technology utilized in business, marketing, biomedical sciences, education, and operations. Text mining offers a solution to many problems, drawing on techniques concerning information retrieval, natural language processing, information extraction, and knowledge management. Through text mining, information can be extracted to derive summaries for the words contained in the documents. Text mining has the potential to increase the research base available to business and society and to enable business to utilize the research base more effectively. Economic and societal benefits of text mining include cost savings, productivity gains, innovative new service development, new business models, and new medical treatments.

Social Networking Sites, which create platform for social interactions and sharing are the mostly used internet websites, thus are very important in today’s world. The vast usage of social networking sites (SNSs) has effected the business world, new business models are proposed, business process are renewed and companies try to create benefit form these sites. Besides the functional usage of SNSs such as marketing and customer relations, companies can create value by analyzing and mining the data on SNSs. In this paper, a new segmentation approach, using Text Mining and Fuzzy Clustering techniques. Text mining is process of extracting knowledge from large amounts of unstructured data source such as content generated by the SNSs users. Fuzzy clustering is an algorithm for cluster analysis in which the allocation of data points to clusters is fuzzy. In the proposed approach, users self description text are used as an input to the Text Mining process, and Fuzzy Clustering is used to extract knowledge from data. Using the proposed approach, companies can segment their customers based on their comments, ideas or any kind of other unstructered data on SNSs.

Nowadays, manufacturing companies are pressured to be competitive and innovative. Particularly this concerns the delivery of value to their customers. The assessment of the overall value chain, designed and implemented for a specific product and/or service, should be sustained by new business models (NBM), thus contributing to higher levels of customer satisfaction. Integrated product-services are assuming importance, allowing manufacturing companies to achieve longer and stable relationships with their customers. This requires, among other, organizational changes and novel methodologies for product-service development. In fact, an effective integration allows product-service innovation, which being exploited, contributes significantly to businesses' competitiveness and sustainability. In this paper, a “roadmap” for NBM definition and implementation is presented, along with a new methodology for Product-Service Systems (PSS) development. Two case studies are used to test both the roadmap and the PSS methodology. As such, this work is expected to contribute to a clear understanding of NBM and their integration in a methodology for PSS.

This chapter integrates elements from Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, Data Mining and Text Mining to support competitive intelligence. It shows how text mining algorithms can attend to three important functionalities of CI: Filtering, Event Alerts and Search. Each of them can be mapped as a different pipeline of NLP tasks. The chapter goes in-depth in NLP techniques like spelling correction, stemming, augmenting, normalization, entity recognition, entity classification, acronyms and co-reference process. Each of them must be used in a specific moment to do a specific job. All these jobs will be integrated in a whole system. These will be ‘assembled’ in a manner specific to each application. The reader’s better understanding of the theories of NLP provided herein will result in a better ´assembly´.

AbstractAdditive manufacturing offers several potentials such as the freedom of design, part consolidation, function integration, or time and cost-savings. These potentials make AM interesting for industries such as aerospace, automotive and medical implants, and are also seen as enables for the creation of entirely new business models. Additive manufacturing has the potential to change the current manufacturing landscape substantially and has attracted much attention of industry and academia over the last decades.However, these developments require improvements concerning the technology itself and its successful implementation into the value creation chain. Driven by the promising market opportunities and upcoming technological developments, many research activities started.This paper presents a literature review of publications from the last 20 years. Based on this analysis, the evolution of the AM research landscape is portrayed. The research landscape is organised into four areas: machine and process, material, digital process chain and methodology. The paper summarises developments in each of these areas and concludes by presenting current and discussing future research topics.

Since the dawn of the industrial revolution, technologies have had a disruptive impact on business and society. The proliferations of technology-based start-ups in the last decade are significant change agents for job creators and creators of business environments. Marginal improvements are creating disruption and new business models by building upon the disruptive power of technology. Mobile phones have become an extension of our arm with an average person checking it 150 times a day. These amazing changes are not the beginning and are certainly not the end. The primary change driver has been technology and today things are changing even faster. This is beginning to drive a reduction in poverty, an increase in labor standards, greater access to consumer goods, and the facilitation of cultural exchange. Cost-of-living improvement is, on a grander scale, staging for a brave new world of peace.

E-commerce growth enforces the courier business to focus on developing a new business model decision. This paper aims to explore a suitable new business idea for courier business if the Data Analytics (DA) can be advantageous, using small courier company as a case study. The study investigates Logistics Service Provider (LSP) activities and the Gap Analysis and SWOT analysis were conducted to explore Data Analytics (DA) opportunity. Then, the alternative business models were pre-screened by the requirements of company, i.e. reasonable investment cost and the opportunity in using Data Analytics (DA). Ansoff Matrix is used to classify the alternative of new service idea into two segments; 1) offer development, i.e. Market development, and 2) New business development, i.e. Service development and Diversification. Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) is used to select suitable business idea by weighted summation on five of Data Analytics (DA) accommodation criteria, i.e. company capability; the ability performs of demand; vision, strategy, and desire of executive, investment strategy and customer data opportunity. The business models that are mostly desirable are 1) Suppliers-Consignees recommendation, 2) Fulfillment service model and 3) Sourcing model. These three models were elaborated and discussed in the perspectives of company and customer. Additionally, this research proposes several challenges in Data Analytics (DA) related in logistics activity, key decision criteria and methods of idea selection implemented guidelines for logistics business practice.

Industry 4.0 promises to revolutionize industrial production with increased operational efficiency, the development of new business models, services and products. It enables real-time production planning and dynamic optimization in contrast to conventional forecast. The tools and technological advances developed by Industry 4.0 will have a significant role to improving the quality of life in society in order to enable a happier, motivated, and satisfied and with more time for leisure. As a consequence, it will increase productivity and the mankind will choose the direction and the kind of society we want to create in the future to promote equal wealth distribution. As consequence of Industry 4.0 emerges Society 5.0, beginning in Japan, due to the concern of the ageing population. Society 5.0 focuses on the use of tools and technologies developed by Industry 4.0 to benefit the humankind. Intelligent systems, developed by Industry 4.0, could be seen by society as a beneficial rather than as adversaries. Future society could benefit from advanced technology in solving problems and economically. Society 5.0 has a special focus to position the human being at the centre of innovation, technological transformation and industrial automation, stimulated by Industry 4.0. This new Society 5.0 paradigm will play a predominant role in creating a happier, satisfied, fulfilled and consequently more productive society. Society 5.0, also called the super intelligent society, intends to use advanced technology of Industry 4.0 for enjoyment of humankind, in order to promote an interconnection between people and systems in cyberspace with optimization of results by artificial intelligence.
