Modeling of supply chain processes is fundamental to analysis of these processes and is essential for process design prior to implementation of a supply chain management system. In this chapter, the background of business process modeling is first introduced. This is followed by a summarized description and critical discussion of the major techniques for supply chain process modeling such as the SCOR model, BPMN, UML, IDEF and simulation. These techniques have been widely used in academic research and development of management information systems. Finally, future trends are pointed out and the chapter is concluded.

Abstract Keeping track of the oil and gas supply chain is challenging task as the route and transportation requires sophisticated security environment - both physical systems’ and IT systems’ security. Thanks to the recent advancement in IoT, specialized sensors can keep track of the required supply chain environment. With the help of blockchain, the supply chain data can be immutably saved for further sharing with stakeholders. Due to the introduction of AI as an embedded element within 6G networks, the end-to-end supply chain process can now be automated for safety, security, and efficiency purposes. By leveraging 6G, AI, blockchain, and IoT, the supply chain data during the transportation or at rest can be monitored for any changed environment during the movement of the ship through national or international routes. In this paper, we study the requirements of such intelligent and secure supply chain management system conducive to the oil and gas industry. We also show our proof-of-concept implementation and initial test results. Our obtained results show promising prospect of the current system to be deployed to safeguard the oil and gas supply chain.

PurposeProcess models specific to the supply chain domain are an important tool for the analysis of interorganizational interfaces and requirements of information technology (IT) systems supporting supply chain decision-making. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of supply chain process models for novice analysts in conveying domain semantics compared to alternative textual representations.Design/methodology/approachA laboratory experiment with graduate students as proxies for novice analysts was conducted. Participants were randomly assigned to either the diagram group, which worked with “thread diagrams” created from the modeling grammar “Supply Chain Operation Reference (SCOR) model”, or the text group, which worked with semantically equivalent textual representations. Domain understanding was measured using cognitively demanding information acquisition for two different domains.FindingsDiagram users were more accurate in identifying product-related information and organizing this information in a graph compared to those using the textual representation. The authors found considerable improvements in domain understanding, and using the diagrams was perceived as easy as using the texts.Originality/valueThe study's findings are unique in providing empirical evidence for supply chain process models being an effective representation for novice analysts. Such evidence is lacking in prior research because of the evaluation methods used, which are limited to scenario, case study and informed argument. This study adds the diagram user's perspective to that literature and provides a rigorous empirical evaluation by contrasting diagrammatic and textual representations.

Objective This research is to examine the supply chain management process carried out by fishermen in searching for fish in the Brondong archipelago - Lamongan East Java fishing port. In this study, researchers used a qualitative case study method with miles and hubberman analysis techniques (data reduction, data display and data verification). In this research, researchers look directly at the supply chain management process carried out there. In this study, researchers also examined the process that is adapted to Islamic Sharia, so that the supply chain process that is there can be said as a halal activity and also thayyiban. In accordance with the research objective, which is to examine halal supply chain management, researchers found that the process carried out by the fishermen who were there in carrying out their activities could be said to be halal and also tayiban

Compared to the supply chain management of other business domains, agricultural supply chain management is affected with issues such as diversity of production and demand, the bulkiness of produce, perishability, seasonality, harvest uncertainty, and climate complexity. These issues are more prominent in rural agricultural sector. Availability of mature supply chain management processes and systems can enhance the productivity of rural agricultural communities. This chapter proposes a five-stage capability maturity model for the implementation and maintenance of supply chain management processes in farm management information systems. The capability maturity model is a valuable aid to determine the digitized supply chain process' ability to consistently and continuously achieve improvement and organizational objectives. The model is proposed based on the findings of the analysis of 121 supply chain management software in the farming sector, the Capability Maturity Model by the Software Engineering Institute, and the Supply Chain Process Management Maturity Model.

In this study the improvement of supply chain process based on the supply chain management has been considered. In this regard,  two vital factor of time and cost  has been  taken into account to optimize the process of product delivery. To harness the available methods, among the all options, the construction company’s integration has been elicited in order to improve the business process by concentrating best logistic and supply chain factors to improve the construction quality and standards.  By ensuing the proposed methods, the importance of supply chain relationships in construction companies as well as efficiency of the flowed information in terms of relevant data to improve customer and supplier relation has been manifested. In the strategies, followed aforementioned trends, the best potential tools for improvement of constructed companies have been identified. At the end, implementing the mentioned strategies, the obtained results attested the quality performance and supply chain management expediency.

COVID-19 paused people lives and recombine various industry operation system. The China’s Belt and Road Initiative have been intensively studied for their role in healthcare industry, the nations among them came together to defeat COVID-19 by building new healthcare system for protect public health condition. Pandemic periods inspect the previous healthcare supply chain system inefficiency in the operation situation matches with the current social development. This article compares the traditional healthcare supply chain management and novel one developing with the medical pandemic. Simultaneously, the new supply chain process illustrates the new pattern healthcare supply chain under COVID-19 in China’s Belt and Road Initiative countries. Taken together, the results of this article, potentially representing a novel healthcare supply chain developing process during pandemic in China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

This paper provides a detailed overview of the block chain technology and how it can be used to build a foolproof system in eliminating counterfeit products in pharmaceutical industries. From the last decade, pharmaceutical companies are facing difficulties in tracking their products during the supply chain process, allowing the counterfeiters to add their fake medicines into the market. Counterfeit drugs are analysed as a very big challenge for the pharmaceutical industry worldwide. As indicated by the statistics, yearly business loss of around $200 billion is reported by US pharmaceutical companies due to these counterfeit drugs. These drugs may not help the patients to recover the disease but have many other dangerous side effects. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) survey report, in under-developed countries every 10th drug use by the consumers is counterfeit and has low quality. Hence, a system that can trace and track drug delivery at every phase is needed to solve the counterfeiting problem. The block chain has the full potential to handle and track the supply chain process very efficiently. In this paper, we have proposed and implemented a block chain based drug supply chain management. Our proposed system block chain-based drug supply chain management for consumers. In this drug supply chain management the system is deployed using Hyper ledger fabrics which is capable of continuously monitor and track the drug delivery process in the smart pharmaceutical industry. Finally, we also perform several tests to check the efficiency and usability of our proposed system.

The purpose of this study is to confirm the research model related to the impact of supply chain management (SCM) integration on the operational performance based on the previous researches. These studies suggest that SCM integration plays a critical role in generating performance gains for firms. In the study, three constructs are extended, i.e. the information technology infrastructure integration, SCM process integration, and operational performance. A number of 146 large manufacturing companies in Indonesia were selected purposively as the samples. Questionnaires were distributed through email survey, while data were analyzed by structural equation modelling with Partial Least Square software to analyze the causal relationship among variables.  The study found that information technology infrastructure integration does not influence significantly to supply chain process integration. Furthermore, supply chain process integration influences significantly to operational firm performance.
