This chapter examines current trends and future perspectives of semantically enhanced media/multimedia, considering all forms of non-linear storytelling, sharing, and authoring. Background is presented providing basic definitions, involved technology, achieved progress, and limitations. Recommendations and future research directions are then stated, aiming at serving a two-fold target: firstly, to present new, user-friendly forms of collaborative creativity, multimedia authoring, and storytelling; secondly, to suggest innovative adaptation mechanisms that can be utilized in both the media production and consumption ends. A semantically enhanced media authoring model is proposed, integrating most of the expected progress in augmented user interaction and the upcoming Web 2.0/3.0 services. The targeted Semantically-enhanced Multimedia Storytelling Services aim at engaging audience members individually, validating their involvement and positively reinforcing personal participation in the narration. Thus, the importance of the topic toward the transition to the Web 3.0 era is revealed.

Academic interest in ESG has grown significantly in recent years. Nevertheless, bibliometric and visualization research on this topic is still insufficient. This study aims to conduct publication metrics on the literature connected with ESG and attempt to give a research agenda for future research. In this study, we used data from the Scopus database. Various bibliometric techniques, such as bibliographic coupling and co-occurrence analysis, were combined with assorted themes to present an overview. To the best of our knowledge, there is no study that analyses the bibliographic data on ESG fields; this study is a unique contribution to the literature. This study also provides an overview of the trends and trajectories with a visual and schematic frame for the research of this topic. This may help researchers understand the current trends and future research directions, and enable future authors to conduct their studies more effectively.

Implementation of RFID technology-based healthcare services is on the rise. The purpose of this chapter is a thorough, systematic review of the existing literature to provide a discussion of current trends and future directions in this domain. Findings indicate that tracking is the key RFID enabling function. Automatic data collection and transfer is an RFID function also frequently used in relation to assets, staff, and patients. Finally, RFID is employed for sensing, most often in relation to patients, but also to assets. The chapter concludes by highlighting future research directions where the deployment of RFID technology is likely to transform the healthcare sector.

Software Engineering (SE) and Knowledge Engineering (KE) are closely related disciplines with goals of turning the development process of software systems and knowledge-based systems, respectively, into engineering disciplines. In particular, they together can provide systematic approaches for engineering intelligent software systems more efficiently and cost-effectively. As there is a large overlap between the two disciplines, the interplay is vital for both to be successful. In this paper, we divide the intersection of SE and KE into three subareas, namely Knowledge-Supported Software Engineering (KSSE), Engineering Knowledge as a Software (EKaaS), and Intelligent Software System Engineering (ISSE). For each subarea, we describe the challenges along with the current trends, and predict the future research directions that may have the most potential for success.

Technological advances and changes in consumer preferences for safer food with better shelf life have led to packaging innovations like smart packaging. Smart packaging systems involve the blend of active and intelligent packaging properties. Most of the smart packaging systems in food sector are mainly focused on fish, sea, food, meat, poultry, fruits and vegetables. With cheese being the major dairy product and its market expanding exponentially, smart packaging systems for cheese are exhaustively addressed in this book chapter. Some of the smart packaging systems pertaining to cheese like antioxidant releasers, antimicrobial packaging, ripening indicator and self-cleaning rinds can hasten commercial acceptance and reliability of cheese products. This book chapter also tabulates the recent data related to production, and consumption of cheese, permitted additives, types of active and intelligent packaging systems explored for cheese and commercial suppliers of smart packaging systems. Along with, future research directions for smart packaging of cheese are also presented.

Emerging adults are on a journey of self-discovery. In a nation founded on religious liberty, it is not surprising that so many emerging adults in the United States are focused on self-exploration concerning their religiousness and spirituality. This chapter addresses how religiousness and spirituality develop over the third decade by noting similarities and differences from previous and coming decades, the nature of religious and spiritual beliefs, the intersection of religious and spiritual development with developmental domains, and the outcomes associated with religiousness and spirituality. The chapter goes on to discuss religious and spiritual socialization contexts of parents, peers, religious communities, universities, and the media, and it delineates the variations in religious and spiritual development concerning gender, sexuality, and culture, as well as the subgroup of nonreligious and atheist emerging adults. The authors note limitations and future research directions for the study of emerging adults’ religiousness and spirituality.

Third-person perception (TPP) refers to the belief that others are more influenced by the media than you yourself are. This theory was extended to people’s perceptions of the effects of legalizing same-sex marriage (SSM). It was predicted that people might believe that legalizing SSM would affect others’ marriages, but not their own. It was also predicted that high right-wing authoritarians (RWAs) would display TPP more than low RWAs. Participants (135 undergraduate heterosexual students) estimated the effect of legalizing SSM on their own as well as other people’s attitudes about marriage and sexuality. Results indicated that participants displayed TPP. The hypothesis about a link between RWA and TPP was supported. Implications of these findings and future research directions are discussed.

Over the recent years, the sharing economy has been discussed as a community-based solution for a more sustainable future. Supported by the development of information technologies and defined by a large range of activities based on the access of underutilized resources over ownership, the sharing economy has been framed as a socio-economic model that is able to increase social bonding and collaboration and to reduce the inefficient allocation of resources. Within this framework, the sharing economy seems to align with the ideas of degrowth, broadly defined as a downscaling of production and consumption activities oriented to increase environmental quality and social collaboration. Despite the connections existing between them, no previous studies investigate the two concepts together. By considering the evidence provided by previous literature, this paper maps the links and similarities existing between sharing economy and degrowth and analyzes the discrepancies existing between the promises of the sharing economy and the impacts generated by practices. A paradox of scale, where the sharing activities fail to deliver as a consequence of success is also discussed together with future research directions. This paper contributes to the existing debate around alternative economic models and can support the design of sustainable practices.
