Performance Analysis and Models of Web Traffic

The Internet and, more specifically, Web-based applications now provide the first-ever global, easy-to-use, ubiquitous and economical communications channel. Most companies have already automated their operations to some extent, which enhances their ability to interact with other companies electronically. With the advent of Web services, the interaction between companies becomes easier and more transparent (Khalaf, Curbera, Nagy, Tai, Mukhi, & Duftler, 2005). Web-based technologies are extensively employed and support core components of virtual and networked organizations. Many of them, including for instance Web-based communities, heavily rely on Web traffic. Additionally, Web technologies play a central role in the technologies for supporting industrial virtual enterprises (VE) being developed by the National Industrial Information Infrastructure Protocols Consortium (NIIIP). Thus, modelling and analysis techniques for Web traffic become important tools for performance analysis of virtual organizations (Malhotra, 2000; Foster, Kesselman, & Tuecke, 2001). This article overviews current models of Web traffic as well as performance analysis of Web-based systems.

The Internet has come a long way over the past twenty years, and many Internet-era enterprises have had to face daunting challenges while trying to create innovative business models. Many types of Internet interactions can facilitate networking (e.g., The Web, Web services). Since the advent of the Internet, service requesters and service providers have generated diverse electronic services (e-services), and since 2003, many experts have proposed the concept of Web 2.0. People rely on Internet e-services to execute activities and meet requirements; however, e-services lack a standardization method for constructing and managing them. The current study presents a framework design and a comprehensive interface for e-service providers and requesters. The study adopts the concept of Web 2.0 by using Web services with related standards for developing the framework design. Specifically, the study uses semantic Web technologies to complete the construction of e-services. After that, Internet users can quickly and conveniently access the framework to obtain suitable e-services.

This thesis proposes a single and scalable web-based model for grid resource discovery for the Internet. The proposed resource discovery model contains the metadata and resource finder web services. The information of resource finder web services is kept in the repositories that are distributed in the application layer of [sic] Internet. The resource finder web services will be discovered by sending queries to the repositories in a similar way as the DNS protocol. The underlying technology for implementation of the two architectures of this model is introduced.

The Service-Oriented Architecture promises to be an affordable solution for the integration of heterogeneous systems through the Internet. In the e-Business field, this promise represents a great chance for companies to increase competitiveness and to enable the enactment of new collaborative e-Business processes. In this paper, we present a Virtual Marketplace infrastructure, the VM-Flow, which uses Dynamic Composition of Web Services (Orchestration and Choreography) as a fundamental technique to enable interorganizational business interactions in the context of Dynamic Virtual Enterprises. The VM-Flow platform is workflow-based and also introduces a series of interaction policies to deal with aspects like autonomy and privacy. A platform model is presented together with details on the infrastructure prototype and on an application built over it.

The need for the utilization of information via the internet , making the flow of information exchange through the Internet increased rapidly . This makes the need for very high bandwidth availability . The development of the software could not be separated from the need for it . In large-scale distributed computing environments , which are sought bandwidth utilization as efficient as possible , because the availability of Internet infrastructure does not run as fast as the need for information exchange space.Web services allow two applications to communicate with each other despite the different application platforms . By using Web services , the Java platform applications can communicate with a PHP application platform . In designing applications based on android Zoopedia will utilize web services to access data in a web -based server . That way when there is an update the data in the application server zoopedia will also update the data.With the implementation of web service technology in mobile applications integrated with web applications , is expected to provide application Zoopedia effectiveness and efficiency in the distribution of data , can be developed by many people who want to develop applications by using data that has been provided by the web service . With the restrictions on data sharing web service is expected to reduce the possibility of destruction of data by parties that are not desirable.

The study of systems has analyzed Web services, and current trends suggest that the study of RAID will soon emerge. Given the current status of heterogeneous communication, statisticians famously desire the evaluation of the Internet, which embodies the theoretical principles of machine learning. In order to overcome this grand challenge, we present an analysis of Smalltalk (Degree), which we use to demonstrate that erasure coding and thin clients can agree to accomplish this goal.

Reconfigurability is an important requirement in many application systems. Many approaches have been proposed to achieve static/dynamic reconfigurability. Service-oriented architecture offers a certain degree of reconfigurability due to its support in dynamic composition. When system requirements change, new composition of services can be determined to satisfy the new requirements. However, analysis, especially QoS based analysis, is generally required to make appropriate service selections and service configurations. In this chapter, we discuss the development of QoS-based composition analysis techniques and propose a QoS specification model. The specification model facilitates QoS-based specification of the properties of the Web services and the requirements of the application systems. The composition analysis techniques can be used to analyze QoS tradeoffs and determine the best selections and configurations of the Web services. We develop a composition analysis framework and use the genetic algorithm in the framework for composition decision making. The framework currently supports SOA performance analysis. The details of the genetic algorithm for the framework and the performance analysis techniques are discussed in this chapter.

Web technologies have played a significant role in supporting the global sharing of Internet resources and thereby improving communications. On another front, Grids hold the promise to provide global interoperability and interconnectivity at a level considered impossible a few decades ago. In practice, there is not much difference between the existing Grid and Web infrastructures; in fact, a Grid infrastructure could be built by making minor modifications to a Web infrastructure. The implementation of Web-based Grids or a partially-Gridified Web is one of the potential solutions to Grid infrastructure problems. This can be done by sharing Grid services across the Grid infrastructure, effectively using the underlying Web services as vehicles or transporters of these services. The chapter discusses Grid services as another type of Grid resources, examines possible ways to integrate Grid services and Web services, and explores how this will support Grid resource discovery. It is argued that Grids should be developed using the underlying Web infrastructure and Grid services could be integrated with Web services using inheritance techniques to produce Grid-supported Web services. Furthermore, this approach seems to deal effectively with the problems of resource discovery in such partially-Gridified Web environments.
